I was thinking this morning about the Captain Marvel makeup controversy I keep seeing on my dash.

There has always been a bit of a lack of female avengers but with Okoye likely opting to stay in Wakanda Natasha is probably the only woman at the compound. So Carol turns up in her rubber laser-tag outfit :p after 15 years away from Earth.

Natasha offers to hook her up with a change of clothes and after Carol has changed Natasha offers her makeup. Because to Natasha it’s like a form of armor. The Natasha that asks “who do you want me to be”, who knows the power of expectations, of offering people what they want to see, of being able to protect herself and hide her true self away.

Maybe Natasha tells Carol this but not in so many words. The world is in chaos, all those people gone, many more dead due to car accidents, planes falling out of the sky, caregivers vanishing etc. At the end of the first Avengers movie there was that guy who said “Where are the Avengers? This was their fight”. The world will blame them for losing, the compound might be the only safe place for them and being able to hide oneself in plain sight…

OR maybe Carol just accepts as it gives their hands something to do while she gets caught up on 15 years of Earth history. It makes the conversation less intense. When Carol looks in the mirror afterwards she wants to wipe the itchy gunk off her face but when she talks to her team, they compliment her, say she looks better which makes her roll her eyes. It’s not until afterwards she learns about NoMakeup Selfies and how makeup is the default for a lot of people now, so much so that no makeup seems pale etc.

After all Carol is hiding too. Why didn’t she come back to Earth for 15 years? Maybe it was because she realised she wasn’t aging and what that meant for her newly-remembered relationship with Monica. It made it easy to justify keeping her family safe by staying away. She would lose them no matter what, and if she returned she could never stay anyway. So putting on a face for the world, hiding her true self behind some armor, not so out of character after all.

Watching the early 2000’s Fantastic Four movie and I’m only 10 minutes in and I’ve already remembered what my favourite part is.

Ben Grimm.

His loyalty to Reed, to his friends, is just incredible.

It made me realise that actually I find friendship and loyalty to be key traits in characters, it’s often what makes me like them so much.

Sure I’m a shipper but whomever the characters are they have to be friends too and so I guess what I’m saying is I’m all about friendship in any form.

And while this movie is the butt of a lot of jokes, there is a fair bit of good too, and Ben Grimm and his amazing loyalty to his friends is a big part of that.

OMG I completely forgot the part about his wife leaving him! What a way to repay his loyalty.

Completely breaks my heart when he can’t pick the ring up and then Reed helps him. I like how Reed defended Ben as a hero when the journalist mocked him but I didn’t like how he said “I won’t rest, you’ll be Ben again” because he’s still Ben! I suppose Reed hasn’t come to terms with his own powers yet, they are still calling them symptoms.

That’s the point of this film I guess, growing as people, learning to accept themselves and each other. This film isn’t half-bad really.

Avengers trailer #NoSpoilers

Is there a gif to represent the incoherent screaming? I can’t find one but man seriously I have questions, I have feelings and waiting another few months is just

Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Will they pull it off? I mean it’s the tough point, its where they need to provide a satisfactory resolution and with how everything has built up is that even possible in a two hour movie? Mind you I doubted whether they’d be able to balance Civil War and I was impressed how they handled such a huge cast.

There are some fairly notable omissions from the trailer. I hope that means they are doing something important, not that they aren’t really in it.

The countdown has begun… google says May 3rd that’s

147 days

ouch

Has anyone else ever wondered about Peter wearing two suits during Infinity War. Like how did he not go “web” and just web himself inside the suit as both suits responded. Was he getting Karen in stereo? Or was there some kind of super “if statement” going on, where the cloth suit did

if ($ironSpider == ‘yes’) {

shutDown();

}

Considering the cloth suit came first, was there some kind of backdoor update when the Iron Spider was made in case this eventuality ever happened? I mean, that is some bug testing, thinking “hmm, he might be wearing the first suit when he suits up” because like who would expect that?

Tony Stark is one hell of a programmer guys.

Ant-Man And The Wasp has now set a US home release date of 2nd October on digital, with DVD/Blu-ray and 4K UHD versions arriving on 16th October.

Unfortunately, it appears that a certain World Cup-avoiding cinema release here in the UK has come in for the double punch… the UK won’t see a physical release until

3rd December

With digital copies likely to be available about a fortnight before that. Sorry to bring you this bad news.

————-

2 months?!?! 2 months are you kidding me?

Ok but 2019 is going to reset things right? We’re not going to be months behind for Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 right?

#once again I was wondering why there was an avalanche of gifs

Just saw Ant-Man and the Wasp

That post-credits jaw was on the floor!

Also Hannah John Karmen was as awesome as I expected. Hope Van Dyne was even better. Luis was not as funny. Cassie was sweet and Scott was at his best with her.

Ahhhhh I can’t believe we have to wait until 2019!!!!

Whaaaat???!!!!

I just googled Infinity War DVD release date as my dash has so many gifs and I feel an anti-football rant coming on.

Google tells me …

US digital release: July 31st, DVD: August 14th

UK digital release: August 20th, DVD: September 3rd.

As far as I can remember this delayed home media release didn’t happen before hence my suspicion about the bloody football.

Usually the UK gets marvel movies a week earlier than the US. I have been known to joke that it is our one compensation as we have to wait a year or more for everything else BUT with Ant-Man and the Wasp – WE STILL DON’T HAVE IT! Reports say the date was pushed back a month because of the World Cup and nobody would go to the movies when the football was on.

So delay one marvel movie = delay them all?

Thought of the day: Natasha could lift “the hammer of Thor” if she tried.

Why do I think this?

Because she’s a reformed villain.

My theory on the “worthiness test” is basically – “can this person be corrupted?”

With what we now know about Hela Odin must have been terrified when Thor ran off to Jotunheim and “father, we can finish them together!” because Thor had so easily fallen into the slippery slope, road to hell is paved with good intentions trap. Maybe that’s how Odin’s conquest of the nine realms started, he was always talking about “bringing peace to the nine realms” and haven’t we all heard the “but it’s for their own good” argument?

There’s that line in Age of Ultron, Wanda said re: Tony “he will do anything to make it right” and when push comes to shove, what would good people NOT do in order to protect those they care about? Good people have more to lose. They can get corrupted by the shifting sands, and the compromises, but those who have already been tempted, who have stared into the abyss and walked away? Those are worthy because what is left to corrupt them?

That’s what Thor learned and why he became worthy. When I first watched the movie I couldn’t see a difference between him at the start and at the end. I was like “all he did was sacrifice himself/fight a monster, what was different?” but it wasn’t the physical, it was the mental. He’d essentially learned consequences if you like. Man I’m explaining this badly.

I just mean that reformed villains have been tested. They walked away from the dark side. They can fight corruption because they know it and that makes them worthy aka more trustworthy to stay good, than good people who could go dark to save those they love.

Thought of the day.

Last night I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron and the line “how quickly can we buy this building?” stood out.

Then I just added an Iron Man 3 gifset to my queue about the watch Tony borrowed and was shown to have replaced at the end of the movie.

Tony doesn’t forget. If he borrows something, or destroys something, then he makes it right. He pays his debts and fixes what he breaks even when it was an accident. Like he does everything he can for Rhodey when he’s hurt in Civil War. Tony might not be able to fix everything that’s wrong with the world but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to try.

He deals with the consequences.

I don’t know that just seemed important to me this morning. That Tony is one of the most (if not THE most) responsible Avenger.

Does anyone want to do my assignments for me? Anyone? I is very tired (and I know that’s not grammatical) /slaps self awake. A week on Wednesday I’m going to wake up and then stay in bed all day as I’ll be done. Until then have a random thought of the day…

I just saw a Tony Stark gifset from Homecoming and it made me think. Just take the initial Avengers:
– Steve, R&R and then works for Shield, so basically full-time Avenger
– Natasha, Agent of Shield, so full-time Avenger
– Clint, Agent of Shield … you can see where I’m going with this?
– Thor, prince of Asgard, charged with protecting the realms, so full-time hero
– Bruce, drifting as a volunteer until Stark got him into candyland (aka R&D)
– Tony, inventor, major role in public relations for Stark Industries even if he’s not the CEO, charity events, personal appearances to grease the wheels of contracts – he’s a business guy AND an Avenger.

Peter has to juggle being Spiderman with school but Doctor Strange is a full-time guardian of the sanctum. The Guardians of the Galaxy take jobs trading off their guardian status. T’Challa is King as well as protector of Wakanda. Sam (Falcon) works alongside Steve, as does Wanda. Vision is a full-time Avenger etc.

I guess my point is how few (if any) of the fellow “Earth’s mightiest heroes” can understand the pressure Tony is under juggling a full-time job along with protecting the world AND trying to have some semblance of a personal life.
