You know when I watched Star Wars a few years back the main point that stuck with me was how I didn’t agree with the Jedi that love was bad. I read a fair bit of “Anakin didn’t go dark but grey” fanfic. I like the idea of love being strength, of giving reason to the fight. Loving someone might make a person vulnerable but corruption isn’t mandatory. People can care and still do the right thing.

Watching Attack of the Clones tonight I’m cringing at how I could ever have sympathised with Anakin. He is creepy, arrogant, entitled. I can see how some of it was caused by the rigidity of the Jedi (I think taking young kids from their families and expecting them to cut all ties is awful) but Obi-Wan seems like a good role model. Perhaps not as tough as he should be he just reprimands Anakin, but still there’s no excuse really for Anakin’s behaviour. I know Palpatine has been whispering in his ear but that doesn’t excuse Anakin’s personality.

I think I have to join the club of people who wonder why Padme fell for Anakin. Seriously she starts the movie with “Don’t look at me like that it makes me uncomfortable” and he doesn’t stop. How do they go from that to marriage? Plus Anakin out and out says he thinks a dictatorship is best. Although with that Padme thought he was joking :/

Makes me wonder if there’s a middle ground, a way to humanise the Jedi without excusing Anakin for his gross behaviour. I mean seriously “you are in my very soul tormenting me” yuck.

Although I can’t forget that from this pairing (which I am coming close to declaring a Notp) comes the legend of Leia.

Can’t give that up 🙂

Avengers trailer #NoSpoilers

Is there a gif to represent the incoherent screaming? I can’t find one but man seriously I have questions, I have feelings and waiting another few months is just

Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Will they pull it off? I mean it’s the tough point, its where they need to provide a satisfactory resolution and with how everything has built up is that even possible in a two hour movie? Mind you I doubted whether they’d be able to balance Civil War and I was impressed how they handled such a huge cast.

There are some fairly notable omissions from the trailer. I hope that means they are doing something important, not that they aren’t really in it.

You know I swear if I actually stick with my degree then it will be entirely down to The Librarians. Starting from next year we’re forced to take 2 pre-1789 modules and previously I wasn’t sure what to pick. Definitely in reference to the Shakespeare module this was my reaction…

But thanks to The Librarians I’m feeling loads more positive about Shakespeare these days. They are so enthusiastic about him, that it makes me interested despite myself.

and I’m writing an essay on Preludes by T.S. Eliot right now and what’s cheering me up is picturing Jacob Stone being his usual self with his absolute love of literature and art, and remembering him debating T.S. Eliot in the Image of Image episode. True it was only a reference but it’s enough of a touchstone to make me actually write this essay (I take the victories where I can find them).

So in conclusion, yes I’m procrastinating ooops, but also I don’t know I just feel like this is important. It’s stuff like this that makes me mourn The Librarians cancellation even more because I think the world needs to see a love of learning on screen (I certainly do!). I can’t help but smile every time Flynn goes “I do not know and isn’t that great!” because while he likes having the answers, he loves learning new things even more.

Shutting up now (I really should finish this essay) but yeah just watch The Librarians. There’s only 42 episodes and I’m not claiming it’s perfect but it’s made of happy and thoroughly enjoyable as well as being a good influence on me study-wise.

In today’s wondering – what would have happened if Flynn hadn’t made it?

“Judson’s gone, Charlene’s gone. If anything happens to me they are the future.”

“Most of the magic has gone back into the Earth. He’s dying, I think we both are.”

“I need Flynn to pull it together. I’m too new at all this.”

So thought experiment, Flynn died with Excalibur by the stone of King Arthur. Problem #1 what happens with his body? (Side note: practicalities like that aren’t a strong point of TV) but taking a leaf from said TV’s book, that isn’t what I’m really wondering about.
