Emilie said she thinks Rumple would be a pushover as a parent and we all know this is true thank you for the confirmation Emilie

Honestly does anybody think different? Rumple would dote on any child. The only time I can see him being strict is when it comes to a question of safety. He would definitely say “No” and be firm over anything that could possibly hurt them physically or emotionally. He would probably be very over-protective.

Merlin’s origins/the origins of magic – any theories?

I’m brainstorming for my post-season five fanfic and I’m a bit stuck.

Merlin is running in the desert, he’s a foot soldier and has deserted. He’s running with a friend. They spot something glinting in the distance, not a mirage – the holy grail. The cup turns his friend to dust but Merlin drinks and around him the enchanted forest springs into existence, and he gets magic and immortality and foresight and all that cool stuff. He also gets the ability to select an author and must have appointed several over the years.

Anyone got any guesses as to where the grail came from? Like who chucked it at Merlin and why? Also, you know where all this author crap stuff came from? I really hate that plotline but both the grail and the storybooks are kinda a big deal in the finale and ignoring them would be wrong.

This isn’t the canon I want, but it’s the canon we have and I kinda need to work with it, however much I’m swearing over here.

I’m wondering if maybe something to do with with the greek gods or the titans? They chucked Hades, Zeus and Hercules into the mix so that mythology exists in canon. The magic of a world has to come from somewhere and gods would have the ‘almighty’ power necessary. The real question is why and then – the author. Have I mentioned how much I hate that plot? Yeah I know, I’m a broken record on the subject.

It’s just the author has power over free will, the power to affect reality and nobody should have that power because it renders character development irrelevant. People don’t have to take any responsibility because “the author made me do it” and it’s hard to root for them as people, if they are obviously just characters and puppets on a string.

You know I did have a theory for a brief time that Merlin was a time traveler. It explained how he could be both in the tree and in the land without magic talking to Emma as a kid simultaneously. It would also explain his prophecies, he knew what happened if he saw it happen. But time travel makes everything so much more complicated and there is a much easier theory about Merlin being in two places at once – he wasn’t, his apprentice is a dab hand with glamours.

I suppose it doesn’t really matter. The show doesn’t bother explaining anything everything and so long as I work out how the storybooks and the grail got to the public library in New York, then everything else can just get handwaved with a “because it just does” reason.

As an author doing a “because I said so” kinda hurts. If I can’t make something stack up logically then I’m doing my job wrong but this isn’t my fictional universe. Coming up with a coherent theory as to the origins of the world is a little bit beyond me I’m afraid.

Yup I think I did just render this entire post pointless. I’m just venting really because I do want to know the answer to these questions. I just don’t have any theories and I doubt the show will ever explain it, mostly because I’m 95% certain that the writers/creators don’t have a clue either.

My other two WIP are canon divergent AU’s and there is no author plotline to screw everything up annoy me but this one is going to be first on the starting blocks.

Spoiler alert – there will be a Rumbelle true loves kiss. Like season 6 could have anything else …

I was just re-watching OUaT 1×15, “Red-Handed,” and when Granny Lucas made the comment about paying a sorcerer a lot of money for Red’s magical cloak, it clicked and I realized that the sorcerer must have been Rumplestiltskin. And then I remembered his line to Belle, during their hamburger date in “Into the Deep.” Referring to Granny, he said, “I have a complicated relationship with her…” So something must have gone wrong during that deal, and now I’m wondering what it was.

I feel a little silly that I’m bringing up stuff that the fandom probably discussed years ago, but I didn’t start watching OUaT till the S5 hiatus and I was woozy with a combination of a bad cold and cold medicines….so I’m just now making these connections on rewatch….it’s kinda cool.

I didn’t start watching the show until last summer, when I binge watched the first four seasons on netflix, before season five started. I didn’t have anyone to discuss it with, I just wrote a lot of posts on my blog.

In regards to Rumple and Granny, I read a fanfic once (and I’ve read so many I can’t remember which one I’m sorry) which said that Granny didn’t like Rumple because he knew her secret. She didn’t want Red to know, and she definitely didn’t want the village to know, it was like her vulnerability and she hated that he had that power over her.

Plus I don’t think they got on as their cursed selves either. I think I’ve read several fanfics where they tussle over the rent because even cursed Granny didn’t back down for anyone.

After all Rumple does deals with “desperate souls” it only makes sense really that it makes relationships complicated, because he sees people on the worst day of their lives and has the gall to say he won’t work for free. Everything has it’s price and magic most of all.

So, do you think Rush knew that the Destiny wasn’t going to burst?

My headcanon is that he didn’t realize it straight away because he was in nicotine and caffeine withdrawal, he hadn’t slept in days, everyone blamed him for their situation and he felt under incredible stress.

He collapsed, slept for twelve hours, woke up and realized that he had missed the obvious. Destiny predated Atlantis. Atlantis had all the new shiny tech. 3 ZPM’s powered Atlantis’s shield for 10,000 years before being depleted. Destiny had been flying around on auto pilot for a hell of a lot longer than that. It was impossible for it to have done so off the equivalent of a single tank of gas.

He didn’t tell Young because he knew it wouldn’t make a difference. Young would ask Rush if he could prove it and there was no proof, and no way to get proof with all the consoles being dead due to lack of power. Young would still have had to do everything he did just in case.

He could have told Young and then been able to say “I told you so” when he was proved right. If he had told the rest of the crew, then maybe that would have been the start of them trusting him. I have never been quite sure in my headcanon why he didn’t go down that route. Was it because he felt that he deserved their hatred and mistrust? Was it because he wanted revenge? Was it for another reason I can’t think of right now?

I don’t know. Either way I’m pretty damn sure that Rush knew it was going to be fine by the time he took his name off the shuttle.

So, do you think Rush knew that the Destiny wasn’t going to burst?

IMO, the answer is clearly stated in how the scene with Eli and Chloe on the observation deck was acted (and a lot of other scenes in that episode too). Rush was so surprised that they still lived. And Rush is a bad actor (but RC is a great one), so if he lied about it, the whole scene would be completely different.

And even if he read A. C. Clarke’s Rendezvous with Rama and remembered the story, this outcome was not what he’d expected, and how could he?

To understand this question you only need to watch Rush carefully (and forget Rumple, they’re not the same).

His reaction to Young is from my POV very understandable. I’d be pissed like hell if someone would treat me as if I become his new pet, after something like that.

I initially thought that he didn’t know it, but then I started to doubt…

But I’d really like to think that he didn’t know.

To be honest I have gone back and forth on it a lot before I arrived at my headcanon. Watching the episode I do kinda agree with you that he didn’t know. The last scene in the mess hall, I think he’s sort of trying to imply that he did know because he wants Young to think he’s that smart. Either that or you are right again that he is just mad at Young. Was this when he said “rewarded at your whim”? Because that was a very good point. It was an unfair leadership thing and not a good sign for moving forward but then Young was an awful leader.

This is when I then run into trouble because Rush should have been that smart. In fact he didn’t even have to be that smart to work it out, it was a simple matter of logic. I loathe when characters are made dumb so the plot can work. Rush is my favorite, therefore it’s easier for me to headcanon that he secretly knew, than accept that the writers made everyone be dumb for the “forced jeopardy” of the episode.

Anyway, @sarashouldbestudying I’m sorry for jumping all over your posts about SGU. I’m a big Stargate fan and it’s hard to restrain myself. I’ll try not to be too scarily overenthusiastic heh. It’s just so cool to be able to discuss this show for a change.

Yeah, i FINALLY started on the last chapter of TQM. i should get cookies 😀

Yay, go you! I’m looking forward to reading 🙂

I didn’t know what kind of cookie you liked but google images threw up a mixed plate. Enjoy! Hope it helps with the writing.

The retro-modern adventures of Han, Leia and Luke

Han and Leia share some good news with Luke. It is then that poor Han suddenly remembers his wife’s genes.

The rest of the series is here

If those captions are for real, this is particularly ironic given ‘The Force Awakens’. What do you know, the actors predicted a twist 30 years earlier, very prophetic!

sarashouldbestudying:

Just saw 1×04 of SGU.
Rush is the sexiest man I’ve even laid my eyes upon.
My precious Scottish life-ruiner.

“I’m the only qualified person.”

“Yes Colonel I know many, many things for a fact!”

“You think that just because you give the order that it’s possible! There is no more power!”

One of the best scenes in the entire show. Rush owned it! This always tears me into pieces because I want more Rush, but if SGU hadn’t been cancelled then there would be no Rumple/Gold and that’s just unthinkable.

I JUST LOVE MY RCIJ PROMPT SO MUCH! I WANT TO FIC IT AND ART IT AND ROLL AROUND IN IT SCREAMING & RIDICULOUSLY FLAPPING MY HANDS IN THE AIR UNTIL I AM BLUE IN FACE!!!

I love seeing this on my dash! This is like the best thing ever to see 🙂 Have to reblog!

I like my prompt too. It wasn’t anything like what I had prepared myself for, which was good. It’s being a nice challenge and I thought of a cool twist (well I think it’s a cool twist). I just really hope my person is going to like it.

Most of all I hope whoever got my prompt is at least as half as happy as you are. RCIJ should be fun. I just want everyone to have fun 🙂

#I love the enthusiasm#writing should be fun

The selection of items in Rumple’s arms that no one comments on is hilarious to me.  Poor adorable David isn’t so bright…

But given I want to slap him over the cards thing…

I rewatched Skin Deep the other day (not on the official rewatch day unfortunately) and I had to fast forward through David mucking up giving MM her card. It was just too cringeworthy. I really didn’t like that whole subplot. Although at least David had an excuse for being so ugh – he was cursed. After all he had made his choice and wasn’t dithering about it before Regina sent him to the windmill and screwed everything up.

Gold though with the duct tape and rope. Do you think he just had so much of a reputation as the ‘town monster’ by then, that nobody blinked? Or do you just think that Sneezy and David don’t have much imagination?

I know he wasn’t cursed!Gold then seeing as he remembered, but it’s the closest we ever got really. Ah well there’s always fanfic.

When I rewatched it a couple days ago, I wondered if David did notice…I mean, you can see him looking at Gold’s purchases…and called Emma when he left the store. That would help explain how Emma just happened to be at that cabin in the woods to stop Gold from killing Moe French.

Oh wow!

That is a point. You know it literally never occurred to me how Emma got to the cabin at the right moment. I always assumed that she went looking for Moe French and someone told her that they had seen the flower truck driving up towards the woods.

However, David calling Emma and saying “Hey Gold was being weird at the store. He bought duct tape and rope and that doesn’t sound like a good combination for anything.” and Emma being all “I’ll take care of it.” and thinking to herself, dammit Gold, I told you not to interfere!

I like this theory because while oblivious Charming is fun, observant Charming who just keeps his mouth shut most of the time, because arguing wouldn’t be worth it, is much cooler.
