I’m not going to tag this as anything because I don’t like drama but I was thinking about Agents of Shield recently (who am I kidding? I think about it a lot!) and I’m not totally up to date because UK channel 5 are annoying but I have an idea of what’s coming. #NoSpoilers because I don’t like them, I did try and avoid them but that’s next to impossible on tumblr heh.

Under the cut because I’m a coward. I just want to get this off my chest basically. I mean I don’t think anyone follows me for Agents of Shield so it’s likely nobody will even read this, but writing it down makes me feel better so /shrug. Just my two cents folks.

I like your theory of Gold’s ring & @sarashouldebestudying’s TLK would only work in FTL where the curse came from. Mine was a combo of “magic is different here” & Rumple believing in their love which over S1-3 (phone call, Pandora’s box, “you made me stronger”) he did. Then A&E retconned it with that MacGuffin so CS wouldn’t panic about TLK not working. They treated EQ as an entity making Regina do bad more than the DO curse, unless it’s Emma. And let’s face it they change the rules every series

Hi anon *waves*

To be honest I kinda agree with the “change the rules every series” or you know even “change the rules ever 5 minutes”. Usually I’m all about finding in-universe explanations but with Once for my own happiness and sanity, I came to believe that creating a coherent narrative was easier if I ignored certain ‘canon’ bits. Some things just contradicted each other so much – at least in my opinion – and I guess I got attached to my version of the characters, and so I tried to make the show fit that and when it was impossible I ignored the show.

With my response to jackabelle I tried very hard to consider all the canon that I knew about/could remember as it was my understanding they wanted a canon meta explanation. That’s why I didn’t say anything about the writers changing the rules. I did call the Guardian a MacGuffin, but then that’s what people call the infinity stones in the MCU movies sometimes, it’s just a term and from my pov means nothing negative 🙂

Anyway, forgive me if this wasn’t your intent but I’m going to pick up on something I found very interesting in your message

making Regina do bad more than the DO curse

and I’ve gone on a lot so under the cut for length.

My first ever attempt at a pencil sketch. Up until now I’ve been purely digital – as evidenced by my fingers going ‘Ctrl – Z’ when I made a mistake /facepalm.

I’m hoping by going back to basics I’ll improve – can only hope 🙂 If anyone has any words of wisdom to share don’t be shy. I’m here to learn!

#first attempt so the only way is up – hopefully#it’s pretty bad

Has anyone written any meta, fic, or anything with a theory on why Rumbelle simply didn’t use TLK to break the Dark One curse? It’s been a popular fandom assumption all along that the only reason all their numerous kisses throughout the years didn’t break his curse, is b/c he didn’t let them. But if he wanted to break the curse, it should work, right? And wouldn’t that be a heckuva lot easier than all this Guardian business?

Could it be b/c they were afraid that the Darkness would simply go in search of another host, like when the Apprentice took the Darkness from Rumple’s body and it sought out Regina instead? But…. withdrawing the Darkness from its host and breaking the curse are two different things, so I’m not sure that logic holds. Maybe they just didn’t want to take the smallest risk of it happening.

I always headcanoned that his ring protected him from it. That he crafted it in the EF in case Belle came back and then it came over with the curse and Mr Gold wore it for 28 years. A little torment in the life of ‘comfort’, just like the boarded up library he passed everyday. He wouldn’t know why it made his heart hurt, not until he woke up from the curse anyway.

Leaving aside the season seven plot. Belle fell in love with Rumple as the dark one. She told Neal that she “loved all of him, even the parts that belonged to the darkness” and the season six finale had Rumple doing the right thing. Rumbelle had their happy beginning without TLK. Why would they want to break the curse of the dark one? Rumple had it under control and magic sure comes in handy – like the power to travel through magical realms on their world tour. It’s not a curse if it’s not a curse to the one that holds it.

Maybe that’s the answer. The guardian business is all a MacGuffin. All Rumple has to do is let go, to feel the curse chafing and poof TLK will take care of it. With Belle unavailable perhaps he should visit his son. Then he can grow old at Gideon’s side, hopefully Gideon will find love and have children (adopted or biological) and then in the fullness of time Rumple will … well you know.

Is it just me or is tumblr very quiet today?  Is everyone doing family stuff for Easter and it’s just me, the heathen, sitting here refreshing stuff?

I’m here *raises hand* but I have no new content to post and I try and resist rambling about what I’m doing in case it annoys people.

So maybe people are lurking 🙂

Fandom Questions

@chiaratippy I consider myself tagged, thanks 🙂

Rules: choose any three fandoms (in random order) and answer the questions, then tag some friends.

I seem to always choose the same fandoms so I’m going to go for different ones this time. Consider that a challenge hehe.

I choose:

  1. Dark Matter
  2. Castle
  3. Farscape

God, it took me a long time only to choose the fandoms. That does not bode well. LOL

The First Character You Loved:

  1. Two! (aka Portia Lin, aka Rebecca)
  2. Hmm, it’s hard to remember that far back. Probably Beckett even though I’m tempted to say Alexis.
  3. Aeryn Sun

The Character You Never Expected To Love So Much:

  1. Three (aka Marcus Boone)
  2. Captain Montgomery, I’m still a little bitter about what happened with him. What was so bad about being the supportive boss?
  3. Rygel probably.

The Character You Relate To The Most:

  1. Hmm probably the Android. I wish I could get an upgrade installed so I could better pass as human haha 🙂
  2. Oh man. I want to say Alexis but she’s way smarter than I am. Still Alexis is probably the closest.
  3. John Crichton. I too make millions of references to TV/movies in my everyday life 🙂

The Character You’d Slap:

  1. One – back when he was in it obviously.
  2. I really didn’t like Gates but I’d be too scared to slap her to be honest.
  3. Hmm definitely Sikozu, way too full of herself.

Three Favourite Characters (In Order Of Preference):

  1. Two, Three, Nyx.
  2. My opinion on this changed over the seasons. If the show had ended a couple of seasons ago Castle and Beckett would have been up there but now … Hayley, Alexis, Kevin Ryan.
  3. Aeryn, John, D’argo

A Character You Liked At First But Don’t Anymore:

  1. Hmm, I can’t think of one to be honest. I haven’t watched all of season 4 and so if Four crosses too far over the line then maybe him. Otherwise, like with One, I didn’t like them to begin with very much /shrug.
  2. Castle and to a lesser extent Beckett but that wasn’t really the characters fault (I could rant but I won’t).
  3. I don’t know. Farscape is such a weird show that even the characters I don’t really like still sort of ‘fit’.

A Character You Did Not Like At First But Now Do:

  1. Three grew on me. I liked Six more initially but nope Three is where it’s at now heh.
  2. Can’t think of one sorry.
  3. Can I say the whole cast? I know that’s random but the first time I tried watching this show my eyes bugged out (it was just too weird) but then tumblr kept putting gifs on my dash and I just had to watch and I’m so glad I did. Yes the characters are weird, yes things don’t make sense sometimes but there was a lot to love. Who would have thought a puppet could become such a beloved character imbued with so much personality?

Three OTPs:

  1. I don’t ship anyone romantically but Brotp Two and Three, or Two and Five, or Five and the android 🙂
  2. Alexis and Hayley!
  3. Aeryn and John of course

I always seem to tag the same people so I’m going to try not to this time. If you don’t like the tag then please ignore – oh! and please feel free to do these questions even if I don’t tag you, just consider yourself tagged 🙂

Hey, guys, a question here: what happens when you marry and take your husband’s name? What about your IDs, do you change them? What about the name on your university diploma, if you exhibit it at your place of work? What about credit cards, bank accounts and the like?

I just never thought about the legal aspects of it before, for some reason.

Edit: what about academic publications???

UK based here. My mum went through this when she got married last summer. Also I changed my name via deed poll when I was 18, different reason but same basic outcome. Name change = changing EVERYTHING. It is a complete nightmare, I was still finding stuff (non-important stuff but still stuff) I hadn’t changed a year later.

New driving licence, new passport. Had to contact the UK version of the DMV to change the car ownership, had to go to the bank. Get new cheque books, new credit cards. I don’t really know about certificates so much but I’m guessing they can be re-issued. Though when I applied to my current uni I sent in my old certificates with a copy of my deedpoll.

As with everything it’s a matter of sending either the marriage licence (or in my case the deed poll) as proof. Some places change it quickly … other places not so much.

Mum is still having issues with her credit card company and it’ll be a year in July. It is a complete pain! I did it once and I am never, ever, ever doing it again. Mum has done it 3x now and she must have the patience of a saint. I told her last year that she should have made her new husband change his name instead. a) we had the better name, b) it had to be someone elses turn for the paperwork nightmare but nope she’s a traditionalist 🙂

reblogged your post and added:

The Asshole on the Horse was called Hordor, and he…

Ah, OK, got that slightly mixed up, then. And agreed on the general impression that the Duke can’t exactly have been a stellar human being.

Still, the ogres can’t have been that bad if they were, essentially, too lazy to win the war the obvious way.

My first thought was that he was using fear and scarcity to keep the population under control, but maybe that’s speculating too far on too little evidence

No, it’s not. The Duke could have ordered Zoso to kill all of the ogres or put a defensive magic shield around their kingdoms that the ogres couldn’t pass. He obviously didn’t want to end the war.

I read a fic once. I forget which one so I’m sorry I can’t credit properly the person whose idea it was (if it was yours please shout!) where the Duke was basically running an extortion racket.

He kept the ogres within his kingdom and charged neighbouring kingdoms for the protection. On the surface his people were suffering so their neighbours were sending aid. In reality they were paying him to keep the problem inside his borders and not theirs.

Given that Rumple was drafted against the ogres and then a generation later so was Bae, I suspect the Duke kept the war simmering. He had to let it flare and die down in turn so that people would have kids, and give him another generation of expendable soldiers. He probably used Zoso for that, to ensure the ogre war didn’t get out of control.

Rate the Expansions

In the queue yesterday on BlizzardWatch somebody asked about how people would rank the expansions. I didn’t really go through and read any responses because I’m sure it got a bit vicious with the Cata and Warlords hate among other anti-comments. Anyway despite all the discourse I do think it’s a fascinating question. The answer is going to be different for everyone depending on when they started playing the game, and what it is about the game that they enjoy.

Personally for me I didn’t rank Vanilla-Wrath because I started playing at the tail-end of Wrath and I didn’t think I could really evaluate what I hadn’t experienced. My list went:

  1. Legion
  2. Cataclysm
  3. Mists of Pandaria
  4. Warlords of Draenor

Which would probably be odd for most people because it’s quite common that the expansion you went “all out on” e.g. when you raided, when you were in a guild, was when the game was at it’s peak for you etc. Yet that was Mists for me and I ranked it 3/4 and I’m going to blather on and say why now 🙂
