Random thought just popped into my head.

The Prestige

Twin brothers – think Rumple with all the showmanship of the imp, and spinner!Rum with all the soft-spoken quiet reserve away from the stage at least.

When one dons the hat of the magician, the other wears the hat of the manservant (think a mix of calculating Gold and physicality of Weaver).

They are very different, yet live the same life. And then they fall in love with the same woman. Cue Belle’s eyes narrowing in that “I know you are up to something look” because of the rapid personality changes and much panic because she can’t know, she’d leave. They are lying to her, it’s wrong, but what can they do? Two men, one life. The only way really is for one of them to become the manservant fulltime when away from the stage rather than switching but who?

The end result being that they eventually tell her / she walks in on them and they are nervous but Belle just rolls her eyes “I figured it out a long time ago. Honestly how do people not know, you are terrible liars”

The NaNo Report: Day Two

Yeah today didn’t happen. I am feeling a bit better than I did this morning so I’m hoping that the day of doing nothing has helped. Stupid cold.

Tomorrow is double-up day and I have committed to running word sprints on discord for my region all day (I’m an ML) and so my dream goal is to catch up to pace (as I’m two days behind) but quite frankly I’ll take pace just to not get further behind, catching up can wait for better days.

I’m just hoping my brain will work. I’m very out of practice with this writing thing. What are words again? 🙂

Just watched Batman vs Superman movie, and by watched I mean fastforwarded through all the bits I personally found boring.

Overall I really didn’t like it, which is not news because generally speaking I’m not a fan of DC. There are exceptions, I love Black Lightning and I found Wonder Woman was pretty good. (I consider Man of Steel to be 2 hours of my life I’m not getting back hence my liberal use of fast-forward).

To be honest though what I found most annoying about this movie was the missed potential. The setup of Superman being taken to task for the collateral damage, the real cost to the people on the ground, that morally complex question is fascinating and something overdue being explored at length.

I thought the world-weary “I’m older than he ever got to be” Batman was cool. I liked the Alfred who wants ‘grandkids’ so bad.

The movie wrecked it though with all the explosions. Those ‘big epic’ fight sequences were anthema to what should have been the movies message. It’s like one second Batman is laying out the truth of “criminals are like weeds” and “he’s not our enemy today” and then all that went out the window as Batman joined in with blowing the city up???

Also Superman’s death was pointless. Seems to be a theme as his dad’s death in the first one made no sense either. But Diana was going toe to toe with the monster, why not just give her the spear? I mean she was the smart one! After she’d observed it absorbed energy she didn’t hit it with any, instead going for its limbs with her sword and restricting movement with the lasso – superman had a laser staring contest for crying out loud.

Oh and one last thing the crazy Lex Luthor is not a characterisation I like for him but Jesse Eisenberg was so entertaining to watch I didn’t much care. Top job from him.

This week has been crazy and we’ve had something going on every single night and I’ve barely written a word and I feel crappy about it. November is always a terrible writing month. Why isn’t NaNo in like June? 

Same here, I’ve written like 16 words 🙁

Fun fact! Or maybe not so fun idk but NaNo’s very first year (1999) it took place in July. In 2000 it moved to November to “more fully take advantage of the miserable weather”.

Much to the dismay of college students everywhere :p hehe

Although next year when the new site launches I think there will be tools for year-round NaNo. They will still have the big event in November but it should be easier to stage your own. I fully expect many community groups will do just that.

Sitting here feeling rubbish (stupid cold) and an old memory surfaced. I can’t 100% recall the year, I think it was 2013 but it might have been 2012. I visited Grandma and I was talking about NaNo. I think I was having trouble deciding on a project, or it was part-through the month and not going as well as I’d like – either way I was groaning a little bit how writers do heh.

Grandma responded with “didn’t you do that before?”

“Yes, a few times”

“Then why are you doing it again? You’ve done it.”

I was a bit too flabbergasted at the time to come up with a reasonable response but in the face of today’s disappointment I think I have one – a translation for the rest of the world.

Picture this it’s some big sporting event, football final or something which happens every year. You clear your schedule/take time off work to watch the games. The day they start you get sick, you can’t watch them live. Oh you can watch them later but it’ll be more difficult because you’ve used your work-free days to be sick in bed. You watched them last year? One game is the same as any other? I don’t think any sporting enthusiast would agree, different teams, different match-ups = different results.

Anyway ignore me I just felt like sharing that.

The NaNo Report: Day One

Taking a leaf from Worry’s book like I said.

Nothing really to report today because I’m sick. I just about managed to go to class and come home without incident. I then had a two hour nap rather than wording but as breathing is a challenge right now (and my watch is having fits because my heart rate is way too high for someone not moving) I’m going to consider day one a write-off but an acceptable loss.

Tomorrow I don’t have class so I’m hopeful that I’ll manage to scrape a few words to get off the starting block at least. It’s still only the beginning of the month, no need to panic just yet 🙂

#seriously I’m still annoyed that I made it halfway through the semester without getting sick#and now its my favourite time of year I get a cold and I know it’s only a cold but it’s yucky and it sucks ugh

All NaNo’s Eve

Well 5 days ago I had a list and everything bar one thing has been completed (or at least completed to the amount required for the moment). The one thing that didn’t get done is writing so duh just going to write it next month AND get to count the words for it – no brainer really.

So yeah. Wow. Did not expect that. Go me! Hehe 🙂

Anyway, what is on the list for this month? Not sure if I’ve already said. If I have then bear with me:
– 35k of a lingering original project (aka finish the neglected first draft)
– finish the poor languishing celeb/fan AU for Ripper (Garcy fic)
– Painting Layers of Love (Chapter Eleven)
– post-season 2 fic for Ripper (Garcy)
– In You Arms: Part Three
– One night stand turns to true love (Rumbelle)

I think I’ll probably take a leaf out of Worry’s book and do a little report everyday. I’ll make sure to pick a tag so you can blacklist if it bugs you. That list is in order of priority. If the last two items don’t get done then I can live with that, but I really want the other four.

How about posting? I would like to post something during November but it definitely won’t be this week heh. Maybe next week. I don’t know what percentage of my writing time will go where during the month yet. Have to see.

I’m excited – next week I’ll be groaning heh – but for now I’m just enjoying the anticipation of my most favourite time of year 🙂

(even if I am being a rebel which doesn’t have quite the same magical sheen as a trad nano)

Basically anytime he mentions his nana? So the orphan job when he says she was his foster mom, the high school job with the flashback to Iceland paying her medical bills, the low low price job when he says buying from that chain store was the only way nana could feed them all. Oh and the Juror job when he says about how he was taught to talk to people

I like the interactions with Chaos too so “I have the cameras” “now I have the cameras and motion sensors” etc. The pilot when he put the office together – actually it’s always Hardison that finds them the base isn’t it? “For the horde” on that airline job when he didn’t even work there but had a birthday party and pretended to get fired and nobody realised he was only there a day.

Erm what else? Oh definitely the job when they were split and it was just the three of them and he says about the NSA “did they give me a cool nickname?” – oh man I could go on. That’s the thing with Leverage to be honest. EVERY  episode is “best of” for pretty much every character. There’s so many wonderful moments.

I am totally pants at estimating length BUT I just outlined from Day Twenty-Two (where we left off) to Day Thirty-Nine of Panting Layers of Love. Yes that is right

Painting Layers of Love has the start of a plan!

I’m thinking I might put a bit of a time-skip in after Day 39 but I’m not sure because I have to go out! I have to stop! Honestly stopping once something is flowing is the most annoying thing in the world I swear. I’m terrified that I’ll lose momentum and get stuck again

buuuut even leaving aside that I have no clue on length (because I suck) there are 15 scenes I just planned – that’s 4 and a bit chapters comparing to previous chapter scene allocations.

So I think it’s safe to say that I know what’s coming next for a little bit 🙂
