Just rewatched The Bear King. Couldn’t resist, all the talk of BraveWarrior and RedWarrior made me want to and man it was just as brilliant as the first time.
Only problem is I now have 10x the urge to fic it!
Like what if there was no stupid third dark curse, and Ruby and Mulan went with Merida on her quest for justice against Arthur?
How about a modern day AU with Mulan and Ruby as bodyguards for the CEO of Dunbroch International? Or how about Mulan teaches a self-defense class and Merida takes it, then maybe there’s a tournament where they are going to fight as a duo, that takes coordination so they take Ruby’s dance class. I don’t know, my brain is just like fic these three! Doesn’t have to be OT3.
Could go back to when Mulan was teaching Merida to fight. A oneshot from those days, perhaps of that cliche ‘I knocked you over and now you’re on top of me and oh man your lips are so close and I accidentally kissed you’. Or AU with Mulan and Ruby, perhaps backpacking and they go travelling together, and then perhaps there’s a hotel with only one room – brain stop it!

I know there’s not much love for the Once Musical episode in this corner of the fandom but I keep humming the final song to myself. It really links with what Belle said to Rumple. “A fresh start. A happy ending.” “No a happy beginning.”

What an episode. I had hope that everything would turn out ok but I wasn’t sure. It was hope, not certainty and my gut was kinda churning, I didn’t know what kind of firestorm would be happening. However, holding out for a Rumbelle happy ending was right – they got their happy ending or rather a happy beginning.
I typed up notes while I was watching as if it were a regular episode but it’s not really is it? Yes there’s a season seven (and wow do I have all the questions) but this felt very much like an ending. It could very well have been the end of the show and it was finished off well. If they hadn’t got picked up they would have exorcised the scenes with Lucy to remove the teasers for season seven, and that would have been that.
Once Upon a Time’s Renewal
I figured it was coming, that was my bet, and unpopular opinion or not I’m pleased. This show has disappointed me regularly but then it turns around and does something amazing. It does something good just often enough, to keep me watching and waiting to see what happens next. For transparency, I freely admit I’m biased. My two favorite characters are Rumple and Regina and they are both returning.
I have looked through every news report google can throw at me. Zelena is confirmed as being out but there has been nothing on Belle or Henry. Both Belle and Henry still have strong ties to the remaining cast, Rumple and Regina respectively, and until there is an official announcement I’m not going to worry about it. Even if Belle isn’t a regular, she could still be a recurring guest star. Nothing is confirmed yet.
For now I’m going to put on my positive hat and imagine how awesome season seven could be. More screentime for my favorites? Well hopefully heh, it depends I guess on the new characters. No matter what though, I’m definitely going to be watching and unpopular opinion or not, I’m going to be happy about it. I do love this show, there’s nothing on TV quite like it.
Okay, I have a question for whoever took one for the team and watched 6×20. I heard that the whole singing thing was a spell and people forgot what happened when they were singing once the spell was over. So was there singing at the wedding and does everyone remember being there or not?
The singing thing was a spell.
4 of the 6 main songs took place in the past pre-Dark Curse. Blue made everyone forget that they had done singing and put the song in Emma’s heart so she wouldn’t be alone.
Back in present day Storybrooke. Henry reminded Emma of the song in her heart and she did her solo number which freed David, Snow, Regina, Zelena, Hook from being frozen. Then at the wedding they did another song. Nobody forgot those two songs.
So therefore I guess the power of music (as Dumbledore would say) returned briefly to present day Storybrooke for the wedding, but right at the end the Black Fairy’s curse hit, and they’ve confirmed in interviews that Emma won’t be able to use the power of song in the final battle.
Random thought that won’t leave me alone. I think I might have mentioned it before but I forget.
I’m convinced that Tiger Lily’s story about being a fairy, and the stuff with the Black Fairy etc. was supposed to be Tinkerbell’s story. I mean Tink was the fairy on Neverland, but maybe the actress didn’t have enough time because of iZombie so they had to give that story arc to another character.
I mean think about it. Tink tried to help Regina ‘find love’ and return from the dark side when no other fairy would. Given what happened with Fiona, perhaps Tink would have been searching for proof that love could save even the darkest of souls, perhaps she felt guilty about what happened. Tink couldn’t fix the Black Fairy, but she could save the realms from the Evil Queen. It would also have explained why Blue was so hard on Tink for ‘interfering’ and stripped her of her wings and banished her to Neverland. It has echos then, from one incident to the next, and of course Blue banishing ‘problem fairies’ to dark realms where time runs differently.
Don’t get me wrong it was fine that it was Tiger Lily. It’s just from what I remember from Peter Pan, it didn’t really seem to fit her story. I could be wrong though, I’m not that familiar with Peter Pan.
I have two schools of thought on this episode and basically my conclusion is that I’m really sad that they made it canon. I wish that they hadn’t done it as episode 20 because so much is happening, there wasn’t time for a diversion like this, they needed to concentrate on the plot. I wanted to enjoy it for what it was but I couldn’t because – canon.

If Rumple was raised by his parents then Belle wouldn’t be born for another couple of hundred years, but AU Light One!Rumple could work for that. I know it was just a made-up world in a book and the generations were all screwy for magical reasons, I’m being silly today.
Wow I think I ended up quoting half the episode in my notes. I knew I loved The Black Fairy and now I know why, I’m hoping we’re going to get a lot of parallel gifsets because they weren’t shy about drawing attention to how similar Rumple and his mother were in their choices. They both started with the best of intentions and then it all went downhill from there.
