Just wanted you to know I read your tags and I completely agree on the black fairy! Would rather have her defeated in a redemption-esque way than just straight up killed off. I share this minority opinion with you :) I am loving her and I am pretty sure there was some tragic reason for her giving Rumple up. I do hope she is a “regina type evil” like you said :)

Oh cool! I’m loving her as well 🙂

We’ll find out next episode I think as that’s when they are showing the Black Fairy backstory. I suspect the Blue Fairy has a lot to answer for, though quite why Blue has tried so hard to ruin Rumple’s life is a bit of a mystery.

The problem is though what the Black Fairy has done to Gideon is way past what is acceptable. She’s a lot worse than Regina. If Gideon forgives her one day then that’s about what is right for him, letting go of the past and moving on, but what she has done to him is unforgivable. I can see shades of Regina in the Black Fairy in terms of how much she is desperate for Gideon to consider her his mother, and desperate for Gideon’s love but she’s gone too far with it, which complicates her redemption because they are never going to be family.

I still think the Black Fairy could walk the hard road back but it would be a hard road. It would mean finally accepting what she has lost (her family), walking away and starting a new life while always trying to make the right choices. To be honest I don’t know if she could do it because there would be nothing to stop her from backsliding. What would be her motivation considering that she doesn’t deserve Rumple or Gideon looking twice at her?

She doesn’t have anyone else. Now people should try and be better for themselves and not for others, but if nobody cares about her then in her mind why should she bother? Everybody hates her whether she’s good or bad, so she might as well take what she wants. Then of course there’s the question of justice. All the lives she’s ruined over the centuries, should she be imprisoned forever to pay for that?

No matter what turned her evil, she still did bad things, it’s like ‘cool motive but still murder’. Why should she get a second chance when the people she hurt didn’t? I mean truthfully the same could be said for any redeemed villain. I suppose the argument is that nothing will change their crimes, and if they are being helpful now, then it’s like community service. Nothing will ever make up for what they did, so rather than rot away in a hole and not be of any use to anyone, the least they can do is try and save others.

I reckon once we see her backstory episode we’ll have a better idea of who the Black Fairy is and what motivates her. Maybe then I’ll be able to puzzle out a way she could redeem herself. Perhaps her fellow fairies hold the answer. Maybe if Blue is deposed as the leader, and someone less hypocritical is in charge, then the fairies would take care of their own. Who knows heh 🙂

6.18 Where Bluebirds Fly (Review)

Surprisingly, given how I usually go on a lot, I don’t really have that much to say about this weeks episode.

Belle was the absolute highlight. Her smile could power the sun I swear and she has such a big heart. Belle was so sweet with baby!Robyn. I mean Belle could have reacted to looking after a baby with absolute heartbreak because of losing Gideon. She says later that it reminded her of how much they’d lost but rather than mourn over that, she just focuses on making the most of what they have left.

That is just typical Belle really, she’s quite glass half-full, with the optimism. Just like how Belle reacted when Rumple told her about Gideon’s heart. Belle immediately jumped to hope whereas Rumple’s expression said that he had deep concerns. He’s the pessimist, and she’s the optimist. Then they hugged! We’re going to have a lot of gifsets of that right? Also of the hand holding at the end? I have a mighty need!

Honestly Belle reassuring Rumple, telling him he’d done his best and it wasn’t his fault, and focusing on what they can do now to help – this is the Belle I love. She doesn’t stand for any shit but she’s compassionate and hopeful and very kind. I don’t even like the Blue Fairy but I went awww when Belle covered her with the blanket.

I do find it a bit sad that nobody goes to see Belle unless they want something. At least Zelena had the good sense to wait until Rumple had gone before asking for that favor, talk about salt in the wound given what Zelena did to Neal. I have to admit while I didn’t want Zelena to defeat the Black Fairy I was rooting for her because I admired Zelena’s impulse.

Protecting her family, taking care of business, is a character trait I’ve always liked and one I would like to see Rumple and Regina adopt a bit more often. I did find the entire battle in the mines a little eye-rolling because why didn’t they just teleport out? Also it was hardly a sneak attack given the Black Fairy had told Zelena where she could find her and that she would be waiting.

A little bit of snark with my regularly scheduled ‘where is baby!Neal?’ question. I mean no wonder the Charming’s were stunned. Zelena asked if they could watch the baby before she went to battle evil. Also I know Storybrooke has magic now, so other modes of transport like Jefferson’s hat would presumably work, so it’s not quite like the land without magic. However, now fairy crystals can transport between realms? How about they invent just a couple of methods and stick with that. A new method every week is getting a bit much.

Zelena without magic is odd, I wonder if they’ll find a way to restore it.

Did I mention Rumbelle holding hands? Then Rumple let Emma help to wake the Blue Fairy. I wonder if he was resistant to that because he made a choice, and wanted to fix it himself, or if it’s just the deep-seated belief that nobody would ever help him. Anyway, the promo for next week suggests that they are going to be working together! I’m sure it’ll all go horribly wrong but I’m looking forward to it anyway.

That wonderful parallel gifset where Rumple says about Doctor Hopper’s office being down the street just came up on my dash again.

What if because people in the Enchanted Forest always turned to Rumple to solve their problems, they kept doing that under the curse? I mean a quick deal with the Dark One seemed to be what everyone did when the slightest problem cropped up. So it would be like a subconscious thing, and cursed!Gold wouldn’t have any idea why. Hence why he got into the reflex habit of directing everyone to Doctor Hopper’s office.

Just a random thought for the evening 🙂

I honestly thought when I saw the promo it was going to be time travel. I’m so relieved that it was just a flashback because time travel is a headache. Anyway, I’m going to be needing all the Snow and Charming gifsets from the cursed!flashbacks because that was good for them. There were some not so great moments as well but as I try and be positive, I’m just going to ignore those and celebrate the good.

Ok I have to know. Am I the only that is vehemently against Gideon getting deaged into a baby?

I have to be honest I find the entire concept quite horrifying because it basically kills him. It resets him, erasing his personality and everything he went through that made him who he is. It’s like saying there’s no consequences. Yes, what he went through was horrible but it happened and in my opinion it should be dealt with, not just magic handwaved away.

I know it sucks for everyone involved but then Emma didn’t get deaged back into a baby so she’d have a happier childhood, and Snow and Charming got to raise her. Instead they managed to find a way to make it work as they are now and I really strongly believe that Rumple, Belle and Gideon need to do the same. They can still be a family, it’ll just be unconventional, but then in Storybrooke what else is new right?

Discussion is seriously welcome here 🙂

I don’t want it to happen to THIS version of Gideon, no. What I want is somehow Rumbelle going to the Dark Realm and since times moves weirdly in that realm, they end up there while Gideon is still a baby or still a very young boy. And then once they save him from the Dark Realm and come back, the older Gideon who was being controlled by the BF, just sort of disappears. It’s like a timeline reset for him.

I do not want an August/Pinocchio bullshit situation where they de-age a grown ass adult. That’s creepy and gross.

I agree with @rowofstars. Yes to rescuing Gideon before everything happened to him, no to de-aging the adult Gideon.

Wow ok, yeah I remember this theory now because of the filming spoilers. I have to be honest though I really hate the idea.

First because while it loses some of the creepy factor of the deaging, it still basically kills the Gideon we know because it erases him from existence. Secondly (and far more importantly to me) time travel doesn’t work like that and I would scream so loudly. I have a feeling based on next weeks promo I’m going to be ranting a lot about time travel anyway.

The way I understand it. If they did manage to slip between the time stream and rescue Gideon when he was a boy, he wouldn’t just disappear from Storybrooke in that instant – he never would have been to Storybrooke in the first place. Nothing would have happened with him after he got rescued. So it’s impossible, it’s a paradox. History can’t be changed. I don’t believe in ripples through time because well paradox. History can’t be changed because people wouldn’t know they had to do anything to change it.

If history is changed, then it causes a break in the timeline and a new reality is created. So if Rumple and Belle did rescue Gideon as a child, it would change nothing in our Storybrooke. Adult Gideon would still be around, only now he would have lost his parents because Rumple and Belle would be in the new reality they created and probably unable to ever return.

If they did manage to bridge the two realities and bring kid!Gideon back with them, then there would be two Gideon’s. The one we know, and the child from the alternate reality they created. No matter what adult Gideon can’t be wiped from existence and just disappear. At least as I understand the logic of time travel. Now I could be wrong I mean time travel is fictional and it works however the creators say it works I guess. I probably shouldn’t be so judgmental and opinionated about it. It just bugs me when it doesn’t make sense. I’m sorry.

6.15 A Wondrous Place (Review)

I’m very much of the opinion that if I don’t have anything nice to say then why spread the misery? It would be better to remain silent. So I’m not going to go on about the many issues in this episode. Hook’s entitled behavior with “Sorry isn’t good enough” was an indicator of how this was going to go and it really didn’t get any better.

Anyway, I’m going to try and pick out anything that was good and there were some things.

Random thought of the day. Granny was still alive in the Real or Not Real? Nobody Knows wish!world. I mean it’s not real but is somehow persisting which makes it look kinda real. Anyway, Marco/Geppetto was dead so clearly the writers were aware about the aging process but Granny looked the same.

Answer – werewolf!

I mean Granny never had a red cloak, we only have her word that she doesn’t change anymore. What if she’s like Colonel Ives and stays young and healthy because on full moons she feeds.

Either that or Granny is Storybrooke’s answer to Professor McGonagall and when death came for her, Granny looked down her glasses, grabbed her crossbow and death apologized and left. It’s a theory 🙂

Once Upon a Time: Word Crawl

image

I’ve linked this here before but I just noticed that you need to be signed into the NaNo site to view the messageboard now. So I’m going to post it directly. If you don’t know what a word crawl is, basically it’s just a way of making a word count goal feel more manageable by chopping it into smaller pieces.

I kept this very generic because I didn’t want to tailor it to any characters/ships because I posted it on the main NaNo board originally. So this is for everyone, no matter who your favorite character is 🙂 Hope someone finds it helpful!

Oh wow.

@of-princes-and-savages I just read your anti-Hook fic and I was making a comment on AO3 and this thought popped into my head “the second Hook left, they started thinking, so it’s like they are under a spell from being around him” and boom it came to me.

3.03 Irresistible was an episode of Stargate: Atlantis. SGA-1 gate to this world and they are mystified because this man has everyone singing his praises and they can’t work out why. However, after spending time with him the team start saying how amazing he is. This guy gets everything he wants, people do anything he asks them. The only one not affected is Shepherd because he has a cold. Turns out this guy made a drug, and put it in his aftershave.

When he leaves his world for Atlantis then the locals go through withdrawal. They are beside themselves without him. However, after another day without him the drug wears off and they regain their right minds. When they face him again it’s not pretty because he took serious advantage of them.

Now I don’t think for one second that Hook actually has this kind of racket going on but it makes for an excellent explanation in crack fics 🙂
