I like trying new TV every so often. I got a 14 day trial of NowTV because it’s free and I like free. Yesterday I tried the MacGyver reboot and it was very CBS aka *nose wrinkle* I just tried Elementry and that was better but I wasn’t grabbed. I still have Blindspot to try later but…
Legends of Tomorrow. So thoughts:
– it’s DC Ant-Man
– is that both brothers from Prison Break? Weird if so them teaming up in another role. The erm I forget his name, the one with all the tattoos? I didn’t even watch that show. Anyway his voice in this is strange.
– DC Human Torch
– I’m thinking my dislike of Arrow is going to be a problem if I like it because I’m not understanding a fair bit.
– Gideon with a female voice? Interesting.
– I hope he re-cloaked the ship. Ooops no he didn’t.
Ok who cleaned up the puke?
– the Hawkguy and Hawkgirl Egyptian god thing is cool but confusing and I really want to know how they suit up.
– I hope the bar fight didn’t cause temporal issues though the guy that started it deserved it.
– interesting I figured with Kronos murderous ways he was a bad guy but I guess more neutral evil.
– the TimeMasters sound like the Jedi.
– shouldn’t somebody be healing the professor/son of gods?
– oh I like the “changing our fate” speech
And I’m done with episode one.
Well it grabbed me enough to watch another one but I’m a long way from being sure. I love Black Lightning (seriously love it, that show is amazing) but I haven’t got on with any other DC show. Well I didn’t like Arrow or Gotham. I haven’t seen The Flash, are there others? Anyway all the shared universe references are confusing me.
Basically what I like:
– the winged immortal Egyptian god people
– Victor Garber’s character
and I doubt that’ll be enough but I am a sucker for spaceships, phasers and pop culture references so we’ll see 🙂
Agents of Shield — S1E2 — 0-8-4
First of all, thank you for all the conversation and welcome to the AoS fandom! I’m still just getting my feet wet and getting to know these characters, please be patient with me!
Also please no spoilers – I am, for the first time in my life, trying to watch a genre show spoiler free. So please no spoilers beyond where I am, thank you very much!

Lol at the Once 0-8-4 quip hehe. Re: FitzSimmons would giving you first names count as a spoiler? They are separate people and not related. I don’t dare tell you anything else, I want to err on the side of caution re: spoilers. Same sentiment regarding your thoughts on Skye and Ward.
Oh you caught on to Reyes playing Coulson? I didn’t. I was stunned the first time I watched it and I think I rewound and watched again to try and work out if there were any hints.
With Skye being shady, given at the end of the pilot she did the whole “I’m in” thing then yeah I think assuming there’s a mystery there is acceptable 🙂 Man you are making me want to do another rewatch! And I haven’t ‘quite’ finished my last one.
*insert me rubbing my hands with glee, waiting on your thoughts about episode 3* – seriously, it’s so fascinating reading an unspoilered view 🙂
Okay, so we’re doing this . . . Agents of Shield . . . I just watched the Pilot and I’m already hooked!
For those who don’t know – I decided to watch a show that’s been for a while, has an established fandom, that I know literally NOTHING about, and comment on each episode. I chose Agents of Shield thanks to suggestions.
Oh, an important note … . I’m watching completely spoiler free. I’m excited to engage fans and you can post here, reblog, message me, whatever – just please NO SPOILERS past the point where I am, which currently the first episode. So please don’t spoil me beyond this point, thank you!
Okay … . . so my thoughts on the PILOT episode of Agents of Shield (under cut) … .
Ahhhhh you chose AoS!!!! I adore this show 🙂 🙂 but then you will know that from my gushing recommendation hehe. I’m so happy you enjoyed it! I was hooked from moment 1 too.
I don’t think it’s a spoiler to tell you that Robin from HIMYM is Deputy-Director Agent Maria Hill. She was introduced in The Avengers movie which is pre-series and you said you saw it. Coulson was in that movie so maybe that’s where you recognise him from?
Re: Ward his line “somebody really wanted our initials to spell Shield” and his action-scene opener was awesome. I can see what you like him 🙂 That’s interesting that you liked Skye straight away. By interesting I mean I had a different reaction heh. I really didn’t like her until much much later. On rewatching I found so much about Skye that I loved. Certainly in this episode I felt like she reacted much like any regular person would, so what’s that called? The viewers voice?
Awww Lola. Definitely recurring I’ll put it that way 🙂 definite soft spot for Lola *nods* Re: Peterson getting shot, I’m sure this was in the episode, that he wasn’t shot by a bullet but by one of those icer-bullets, a knockout bullet basically and Coulson ordered it because Peterson was about to explode due to the super-serum he was on and the building wasn’t clear yet so there would be casualties. I’m positive that was explained at the end but I think it was explained badly from what I recall. I think I only really cottoned on with rewatching.

So an idea I am toying with …..
@sieben9 has kind of inspired me to take on a watch of a show that has been around for a while that I have not yet seen, to watch and do an episode by episode post of.
The one I am TOYING WITH is Game of Thrones. I have never seen one episode of it and I BARELY get the premise. I’ve seen both positive and negative thoughts on it but really that’s EVERY SHOW. And I like to make up my own mind.
So — that is an option. Does anyone else have other suggestions? I want something that is already 3 seasons MINIMUM (still airing a plus but not necessary) that has a solid Tumblr fan base presence.
Just so that you can understand my taste — these are shows I love past and present (so obviously none of these):

Doctor Who
So I am open to suggestions but GoT is where I’m leaning so far unless someone has a better suggestion. I do have Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Showtime and STARZ and I prefer something I can watch on any of those outlets so that I don’t have to buy DVDs.
Also NOT WALKING DEAD. I watched till S4 and lost interest for a variety of reasons. I may revisit it someday but not right now.
So ….. give me some suggestions!!!!! 🙂
Agents of Shield, Agents of Shield, Agents of Shield!
Man I could wax lyrical about this show. It has everything! Great continuity, appropriate character development (which actually sticks!), fantastic ships (I can’t think of one I dislike).
Every character gets their time in the sun but nobody is ever forgotten. It’s chock full of awesome character moments, memorable lines etc. It can be humourous, it can tug at heart strings and it is always, always enjoyable.
Imo it is the show that keeps on getting better and better as it goes on. Most shows decline but (for me) AoS is going from strength to strength. Sadly ratings don’t agree but a sixth season has just been confirmed, albeit a short one.
There are other shows I love but with the 3+ seasons and active fanbase I’m not sure if anything else fits.
I saw the poster for the movie “The Spy Who Dumped Me” and I clicked on it because it had two women on the cover and I thought it was going to be an epic lesbian rom-com.
Naturally I was disappointed. The spy was a guy, and the two women were just room-mates BUT it made me wonder, could it work for either of my ships? The answer is I think it could work for both of them! but in different ways.
1) Original thought – After locksat was dealt with Haley eventually got bored and started travelling for work again. The distance, plus the age gap, led Haley to break up with Alexis. When some bad guys from her latest job start hunting Alexis, Haley thinks their break-up was an even better idea because look at the danger she put her in.
Alexis disagrees, she’d been kidnapped and shot at long before she met Haley and what she hates the most is the people she loves being in danger, and not being there to help them. Alexis asks Haley whether she expects her to turn her back on her dad and never see him again. Shocked Haley says no, so Alexis says then why would she turn her back on her? To cut a long idea short basically they prove they are stronger together, plus being forced together like that reminds both of them why they fell in love with each other in the first place.
2) Second thought – Ruby had dated Whale, Victor Whale, for a short time. Unfortunately it was during this short time that Victor was tailed and so Ruby was flagged as being his weak spot. Now Victor is a lothario but not a jerk, if he could then he would have gone to protect Ruby, but he was deep undercover on another assignment. So instead the agency dispatches Mulan.
Things get a little more complicated when Merida from down the hall gets caught up in the initial shootout/chase at Ruby’s apartment. Now the three women are on the run and to be cheesy – sparks are going to fly.
Yeah I want to fic it.

I feel amazing kinship with this person I’m following. I wish I could tell them but I’ve never spoken to them before and so I think it would be weird. Their tags on Dark Matter gifsets are like they come from my brain. Example:

Although I think I might have to disagree with the rewatch part because dammit if three seasons is all I get, then I’m gonna have to rewatch it all over and over for forever for my fix.

You know for all I’ve been super stressed about my assignments I am so lucky in what I get to do. For two of my modules this semester we got to pick our own assignment topic.
So, for one assignment, I used the Aschen (Stargate SG-1), the Klingon (Star Trek: Discovery) and Wakanda (Black Panther) to explore different aspects of imperialism.
For the other assignment I’m comparing the power structure of the Goa’uld (Stargate SG-1) with the slave trade to analyse Weber’s theory of power.
Sure the academic reading is dense, (I swear they have all swallowed a thesaurus and write convoluted paragraphs on purpose), but that would be true whatever the topic. This way I have the amazing compensation of getting to write about Stargate.
I mean how many people get to write essays using their favourite TV show ever?
