I have very bad second-hand embarrassment from the third episode of Black Lightning. If you’ve seen it then you’ll know what I’m talking about. *shudder*

I absolutely adore the character of Grace! I think she knows more than she’s saying. How cool would that be if she has powers/knows about powers and obviously so does Anissa but they are keeping the secret from each other? That would be like a “Whaaat you too?” Mr and Mrs Smith moment but without the fighting.

Question of the day why did the lady with the sniper rifle miss? The order was to kill “the electric freak” which I thought meant Black Lightning but she hit the reverend and it was a through and through and hit Khalil.

Ahhhhh *incoherent screaming* Jefferson and Lynn are taking my shipper heart and shredding it. I totally get why they aren’t together but they love each other so much. Their eternal argument is playing out on the TV with the friend/police inspector vs the public opinions. No wonder nobody knows who is right – they both are! It’s such a complex issue and that is so real.

Also Lynn is such a great mom. Mothers unconditional love and support and she totally wasn’t buying Anissa’s half-truth of the breakup. I wonder if learning about Anissa’s powers will help or harm any reconciliation.

Man I am falling so hard for this show!

Last night I got this fic idea which just unfolded in my brain. I wrote out the summary during break and I thought “hmm this is cool! I like it 🙂 I want to read!”

Then I realised I’d actually have to write it…

After I watched the pilot episode of Black Lightning I made a post saying “oh no I ship it”

I’m watching episode two now and corny costume or not this show is AMAZING!

I’ve totally lost my fic-writing mojo but when Jefferson declared he was back as Black Lightning and Lynn teared up – oh man I wanted to fic it so bad.

I don’t think there has been a more compelling couple since Rumbelle. Please don’t disappoint me show.

I have to go to bed now but Netflix says I have three more episodes to watch. Can’t wait!

Camp NaNoWrimo: Rumbelle Style

Yes it is that time again and just like last year I will be running a cabin!

For anyone that doesn’t know Camp NaNo is different from regular November NaNo in a couple of crucial ways:

  1. You can set your own word count goal (I don’t think there’s a minimum value so set it as high or as low as you like)
  2. They allow you to track time and pages, in addition to words. So you could write a screenplay, edit a story, plan a story, write poetry, whatever you want really.
  3. They have these things called cabins

It is because of these cabins that I am making this post. We had a dozen Rumbelle writers last year and I think it went well so let’s go again. The cabins are for 20 writers and they have like a messageboard thing allowing communication on the NaNo site. I’ve always found it’s easier to write knowing I’m among friends, rather than sitting alone banging my head against the keyboard. I’ve been doing Camp NaNo for years and it always sucks if the cabin is a ghost town so in my cabin:

  1. I post daily facts everyday for inspiration purposes
  2. I post a daily word count challenge
  3. Time zones permitting I run word sprints

Generally I’ve found that so long as somebody’s talking, then the cabin picks up in activity anyway. So got a fanfic you want to finish? Doing Mayday Menagerie? Just wanting a boost in the writing stakes?

Camp NaNo is a lot more relaxed than regular NaNo, as I said above you can work on different kinds of writing, or different parts of the writing process, or even on lots of projects at once. Camp is really about just making progress on things, and getting stuff done in a supportive and friendly environment. So there’s no real barrier to joining in the fun 🙂

Winter wonderland!

It’s about 6 inches I think and still the sky is heavy with more. It’s -3 (feels like -11 thank you phone) and I know that most countries will laugh buuut THIS IS ENGLAND heh 🙂 Seriously we are not set up for this. Every road out of my town is gridlocked, car wheels are spinning in place at traffic lights as people have stopped and then can’t move again.

I ventured out this morning as mum’s husband needed milk and smokes. I’m allergic to milk and I loathe smoking but it was safer to walk and it’s only half a mile to the shop so I went. I got the milk but when I tried to buy the smokes…

“ID please.”

“I’m 27″

“You look underage.”

Yeah … so that happened and naturally I hadn’t thought to take ID with me /facepalm. I had to take my glasses off as snow stuck to them so much I couldn’t see and I was like the abominable snowman when I got home as so much snow had stuck to my clothing so I didn’t make a return trip.

It’s cold outside.

This week on “why did Sam sign up to do literature?”

I dislike reading plays, I don’t like watching black and white movies (or indeed most movies made before I was born, some things age well but most don’t imo) and I’m really not a fan of discourse where it’s so flowery a sentence = a paragraph, I’ve read it three times and I still have no clue what it says.

I love stories, nothing on earth resonates the way a well-told story does or a well-crafted image whatever medium it’s in. There are poems that have taken my breath away, plays that have had me in stitches of laughter, movies which have made me sob, novels which have kept me up all night turning the pages, graphic novels which have made me think.

All of that, in all the things, and so much more! There are so many aspects of literature which stay with me – I love literature, I really do, honestly.

Just … this week is not my cup of tea I guess.

Rewatching Thor: Ragnarok as the DVD came out today. It’s a great movie but all the death makes me sad. I did start writing a canon-compliant oneshot explaining where Lady Sif was during events. Watching it again now part of me wishes to save all the poor Asgard soldiers and especially the Warriors Three.

I don’t know how though without wrecking the plot. Really the question that needs to be asked is how come everyone forgot Asgard’s history as they live so long? I mean it was obviously all within Odin’s lifetime. Is there a difference between royalty and regular Asgard? I’m thinking not considering Valkyrie went against Hela but then again time could be different on Sokar explaining how she’s still alive.

Alternately I’m wondering if Frigga did some magic to help people forget. She presumably must have known unless Odin had a previous wife as well. I need to know these things.
