You know what, I always have this paranoia that I’m going to forget something in my review and this time I did.

It’s an all important question really – do we know yet whether Robert Carlyle will be growing out his hair or will he be keeping it short?

He’d kinda let it grow out quite shaggy before he cut it or Trainspotting, so if it grows out then it would be more early season one Rush/season one Gold length. How long does it take for hair to grow? I know mine grows fast so I can’t really use that as a guide, but then I joke all my height went into growing my hair. If we get a seventh season it could be early Rush length by then maybe, I’m not sure.

Priorities, you know 🙂

the recent set pics suggest he is growing it out again or at least letting it get longer on top

Oh cool! I haven’t seen those. I miss stuff sometimes because I’ve stopped scrolling back through what happened when I was sleeping. That’s good to know 🙂

6.04 – Strange Case (Review)

image

I haven’t read any tumblr posts on this episode yet, and in all honesty I’m a little scared to see peoples reactions. I have to confess my immediate reaction to the episode wasn’t exactly what I would call favorable, because on the surface it really looks kinda bad. However, this is what headcanon was made to deal with.

I’m tempted to write a fix-it fic because I can think of a way to explain it and turn it positive. I don’t think it was as bad as it sounds. However, having written it all out here in theory form, I’m not sure I can be bothered to write the fic – ooops. Anyway, here’s my rambling thoughts on this episode.

#sorry, Ella #there’s only room for one Prince Charming on this show

I liked this bit. But shouldn’t it be Queen Snow by now, or am I missing something?

I’m guessing that she’s still ‘princess’ because Regina is still queen (evil and contained to her castle or not, she holds the title while alive?).

Well technically Regina was only Queen by marriage. If it was gender flipped, so married a queen, then the title would have been Prince. This is because traditionally King was seen as the more powerful role, so if the Queen was the ruler, there isn’t a king.

Therefore, the moment Leopold died, the kingdom passed to Snow, and she became Queen. It’s like “The king is dead, long live the queen.” Now her coronation might have taken a year or so to come about. Like how Queen Elizabeth became Queen on death of her father in 1952, but wasn’t crowned queen until 1953.

However, Regina framed Snow for the crimes of treason etc. and there was no other heir, so as the dowager Queen, she kept on ruling as like caretaker for the kingdom. Plus basically she had a ton of power, magic and her black knights, so nobody was going to argue.

Disney tends to get confused about how monarchies work. I love the Princess Diaries movies, but the end of the second movie makes me bang my head against the wall. Clarisse was queen by marriage (just like Regina), ruling as a regent until Mia was old enough, but they had her wearing the crown, and it being transferred to Mia.

So Snow is called Princess a) because they don’t know how the monarchy works or b) because it’s a fairytale thing I don’t know about or c) they thought it sounded better for some reason or d) some other reason I haven’t thought about.

6.03 – The Other Shoe (Review)

On my blog I entitled this weeks post ‘evil be thou good’ which I know comes from something creepy, and it probably doesn’t mean what I’m intending it to mean. However, ‘evil be thou good’ keeps popping into my head these days, because often it feels when watching Once Upon a Time that everything is flipped in reverse. The ‘evil characters’ are more good, than the ‘good’ ones.

Anyway spoilers under the cut.

#can you hear my heart shattering into a million pieces

Oh my heart

I have to reblog because that bottom right gif is too damn cute and pure for this world

This killed me on the show. The rabbit he made for her looked better and was made with love, but all he could see was that it wasn’t perfect and his heart ached for all that he couldn’t give her. His desperation led him to fall into Regina’s trap. While I understand why Regina did it, she was very cruel. I often wonder what happened after Jefferson and Grace were reunited in Storybrooke.

cruella:

OMG! I just realized that the wand Rumple used in 6×01 is the Apprentice’s Wand! It can only be wielded by someone with both light and dark magic. SO…the biggest baddest sum of all Dark Ones has FUCKING LIGHT MAGIC!!! Yeeeeeeessssss!!!!!!

Please tell me I’m right? This better have been intentional and not something they just forgot.

Erm well my instinctive answer was no because Zelena wielded it and there’s nothing but darkness in her. So I went back to the transcript and it said:

Apprentice: It is a gift from the sorcerer, from Merlin, on the day I became his apprentice. In it is all the light magic.
Mary Margaret: It can take us to our daughter?
Apprentice: Not on its own. In order to cross realms, it must be wielded as it was forged, with both sides of the coin. Light and the dark.
Regina: I guess that’s my cue.
(it fails)
Hook: You heard the man, it needs darkness. You’ve gone soft. How’s this for irony? You’ve done too much good. No, we need someone wicked.

So my interpretation was that the wand was filled with light magic, and so it needed someone with dark magic to wield it. The wand had the light magic, not the user, which is why Zelena could use it but Regina struggled.

I honestly hope that when Rumbelle comes back together, we will see Chip (literally) come back together from his smashed pieces.

emospritelet:

That would be sweet 🙂

I don’t think Chip made the return from Underbrooke, though, unless Rumple pocketed him before swaggering his way to the portal

I have a theory about that cup.

It smashed right when their relationship appeared to shatter, as not long after Rumple smashed it get away from Merida/Emma was that well scene. Then when their relationship was on the mend and they were being honest with one another in the underworld – it reappeared.

I think maybe that cup isn’t just a talisman for their relationship but a reflection of it as well. Like Belle smashed it when Rumple tried and failed to TLK her to get her memories back. However, it was whole again when he put the tonic in it to wake her up from being just Lacey.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I think perhaps when we see the cup again, it will be at a key moment – perhaps a turning point for them.
