Have you ever looked at your all your OTPs from all your fandoms, and tried to figure out what they have in common? Do you have a type, when it comes to OTPs? Do you see a couple interact for five seconds and immediately think, oh yeah I’m gonna ship them hard? Or does it take a while for a couple to grow on you? Are your OTPs wildly different from each other, and you have to scratch your head and wonder, how can I ship them, but also them? WTH?

Shipping is weird.

galactic-pirates

Sometimes it takes a while because obviously the more we see of characters, the more we know about them – sometimes it even takes a rewatch and the perspective of later knowledge.

Other times it’s like a lightening bolt and immediate.

So how I get there can be varied but in terms of the ships … thinking how to phrase this um, everyone is different right, so why people like ships/characters are different. However, I reckon that if anyone looked deep down at their ships/favourite characters, there would be common factors.

For me my favourite characters are either scientists or just really smart – intelligence is obviously something I like. All my OTP’s are clever people.

With some of my OTP’s there are obvious power dynamics, and others not so much, but ALL OF THEM are equals in the relationship. I only ship mutual respect, that is absolutely key and unfortunately not something I see a lot. I’ve seen dozens of shows and I only have a handful of OTP’s.

I guess what I’m trying to say is traits like intelligence or mutual respect are more like concepts and therefore apply to all the many and varied different situations. Those are just two examples of course, and they are specific to me, but I reckon that if people looked they might find some equally broad criteria which all of their OTP’s fit into. I could be wrong obviously but I do think that there is a trigger for us, for why we like what we like, and we might not realise what that trigger is but it’s always there.

Marvellous Mondays

Or Motivational Mondays if you prefer 🙂

and yes I know today is Wednesday, I’m going with Whatever Wednesday 🙂

Enthusiasm breeds enthusiasm, excitement etc. and people that write their goals down are significantly more likely to do them.

We have TMI Tuesdays and Follow Fridays, so how about a day where we share what we are working on and comment on the progress?

(I’m just kidding about the days btw – any day is good, I just like the alliteration).

I recently read back my old posts where I rambled quite enthusiastically (and often) about what I was working on. I miss that. It occurred to me that if I miss general positivity, that a good place to start is to express it myself.

We all struggle. Writing is hard, drawing is hard – creating in general is bloody hard. Merlin knows I mostly talk about what I’m finding difficult but today I want to flip the script. I know I sound like a bumper sticker but it is easier to tackle the hard stuff with a positive frame of mind. If we are bubbling with love for our project then the struggles aren’t so overwhelming maybe?

I’ve never been a trendsetter but I am just going to throw out an open invitation to the world. Find something you love about your WIP, ramble and express with gleeful excitement the cool thing – tell us all about it – share your excitement and joy. If you don’t feel it then I’m going to employ another cliche called ‘fake it until you make it’. In my opinion we echo our environment, like I said enthusiasm breeds enthusiasm. Join the hype train and the hype becomes real?

Am I making sense? Is this helping? I do not know.

All I know is that this is what I’m going to be attempting from now. I’m sure I will still grumble and groan on occasion but I’m going to make a concerted effort to spread the love.

mariequitecontrarie

I love this idea! Rambling often helps me and even if it doesn’t, it’s good to know there are others who understand. Looking for ways to encourage and help each other be better artists and writers sounds great!

maplesyrupao3

That’s a cool-ass idea! I’m on board with anything that let’s me interact with fandom friends more during the week!

galactic-pirates

Me too! That’s the idea, a positive supportive fun friend thing heh 🙂

I’m going to try and stalk people’s pages so I don’t miss if anyone does this as I want to *wave pom-poms* and be super pumped for everyone. Creating is hard and can be quite isolating so you know whole lotta love

Too many words to tag this many people. I’m tagging @galactic-pirates @barpurplewrites @maplesyrupao3

She’d had enough of today, she couldn’t cope with anything more.

I have no idea what to do for @rumbellebigbang. Every idea I come up with either gets done by someone else, or is not something I’m ready to tackle right now.

I’ve been reading a book called ‘The Writer’s Mindset’ which is about all the Ahhhhh #writing is hard things that drive us insane.

There is a chapter called ‘My writing isn’t original’ which begins with the line “Every story has been written before.” And the antidote it offers to this worry is this

“YOUR thoughts have not been written before, and YOUR story has not been told before. YOU are the original aspect of creativity, and what you bring to the world will be different to what others bring, even on the same topic.”

It says that just because stories have similar aspects they are not the same. That this means “they will satisfy readers of this type of story” and that authors all bring their own original spin.

So TLDR it doesn’t matter if other people have done it, you will do it your way.

What’s the fanfic Friday thing?

I figured I needed a deadline.

Back when I first started posting fanfic, my first WIP The War Within, I posted pretty much without fail every Tuesday. I remember making myself sit and write because I couldn’t miss posting day. I want to recapture that and therefore decided on Fanfic Friday, the day where I post something – anything (for the moment at least).

Like I said I only decided to do it on Wednesday so I’m trying to cut myself a break (rather than decide I’ve failed already) and declare that next week is Week One, giving myself a little more time.

B, darling 🙂 your blog is your blog and I love following whatever you blog about 🙂

rumple-belle replied to your post:
Poll Time

I have a big reply typed out on my phone, but Tumblr mobile is too awful and I need to edit it before I post. The tl;Dr version is this: you do you, and fuck everyone else. Your blog is about you, not your followers.

Thank you both! *hugs*

I don’t really have followers, not like you do. It’s not like people are expecting anything from me and so I’m not worried about that exactly. It’s more I guess my pathological fear of annoying people (*cough* or fear of people in general really).

I would probably suck at a dedicated writing blog anyway because I would be constantly thinking “have I gone on too much about this? I don’t want to be boring.” or “have I been too enthusiastic? I don’t want to make people feel bad.” or “have I been too whiny? I don’t like spreading misery.” etc. and wind up not posting much at all.

Sometimes I know what I want to do but I fall over myself getting in my own way.

Poll Time

Why doesn’t tumblr have inline polls? Anyway my question to anyone who cares is about what I should do with this blog. For full details on what’s behind this question, check under the cut 🙂

Should I?

a) Create a new sideblog dedicated to writing
b) you guys don’t mind if I blog about writing a lot more on here

The pro of a new sideblog is it can be a proper writeblr and I might find new writing friends. The con is another blog to manage and I’m a bit pants at keeping multiple things going.

The pro of keeping it here is that then everything is just in one place. The con is not being able to network as a writeblr and also it might annoy you guys. Although I do promise that I would tag for blocking purposes.

What do you guys think?

I’ve been thinking – dangerous I know 🙂

When I first joined tumblr back in May 2016 I didn’t reblog gifsets very much as I don’t think I understood how tumblr worked that well. I thought if I saw it on my dash a lot that reblogging was pointless/potentially annoying, as it would just repeat again. I also apologised when I started reblogging more than 3 things a day as I was concerned about spamming /facepalm

These days I like reblogging gifsets because a) shiny, b) it showcases stuff I love and I like showing what I love. I’ve made posts bemoaning lack of gifsets for certain things because dammit I want that content on my dash hehe.

BUT (and here’s where the thinking comes in)

Reblogging all those gifsets ties me in pretty firmly with fandom. Now I consider myself embedded in the rumbelle fandom and I never want to leave. I don’t really know where the fandom is for anything else very much (I equate knowing fandom with knowing people in the fandom) but I do as I said reblog a lot of shiny gifsets.

There is one person I follow, and I’ve completely forgotten how come I came to follow them oops, but they are a writeblr. Now I had to look this up as I didn’t really understand that tumblr can be different things (apparently fitblr’s exist too! learn something new everyday heh) but they are writing dedicated blogs.

Now I’ve been in a writing slump/pit of despair for getting on for two years. My lack of updates and poor neglected WIP’s testify to that. Given my shame I’ve mostly been quiet on the writing front. Sort of a “if I don’t talk about it, I won’t draw attention to it” kinda deal. Sometimes I’ll say stuff but not often (the amount of written and deleted posts is staggering).

So my thought is maybe, just maybe, I’ll get my enthusiasm back if I pretend to be enthusiastic. Sort of a ‘fake it until you make it’ kinda deal. If I re-immerse myself in the writing world again, I’ll start to pick it up, rather than just ignoring it and letting time slip through my fingers like water.

Yeah so that’s what is going through my mind.

Did crafting things on vacation. Had a go at some glass painting. It’s really hard. Tried replicating the RAC logo from Killjoys on a coaster. It’s absolute crap but maybe recognisable? Idk heh 🙂

{Quick
request to anyone reading: I’m watching OUaT for the first time, and I want to
avoid spoilers. So, if you want to discuss something spoilery, I’d be grateful
if you could start a new post for that. Thank you!}

Let me just say upfront that I enjoyed this Merida spin-off of immensely. Not sure what it has to do
with the main storyline, but considering what happened in the main storyline, I’m complaining.

And my wolf girl is back! Hey, Ruby! Missed you.

You know, I actually like the Bear Witch a whole bunch, but we are going to
have words about this, lady!

Ahem.

More under the cut.

Ahhhhhhh I’m sorry, I have been neglecting my tumblr and I hadn’t noticed you’d watched this 🙂 🙂 🙂 I’m so glad you liked it!

Yes, all the RedWarrior, BraveWarrior, BraveRedWarrior OT3 goodness

I do tend to mostly fall down on the side of BraveWarrior because their meeting in the past with Mulan whipping off her helmet took my breath away and screamed “ship me! ship me!” and I adored their banter while sparring and it was just all so eeeeek.

I *think* this might be my most-watched Once episode tbh. I know sacrilege as a Rumbelle fan but there are several awesome Rumbelle episodes – this is the only episode with Merida and Mulan on screen together.

Ooooh I need to tag you in the shiny happy BraveWarrior gifset, it’ll be an excuse to have it back on my dash again 🙂 *whistles*

Are any of your characters based on real people? What’s a pairing (romantic or platonic) that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind?

Hey *waves* thanks for the ask! 🙂

Are any of your characters based on real people?
No. Now if the question was “are any of your characters inspired or influenced by other characters”? Then yeah absolutely! I’m not talking about the fact that it’s fanfic and therefore based on characters either. Take Between Two Fires for instance – hello Jack and Irina from Alias. The Price We Pay morphed into something else eventually but I had Mia from The Princess Diaries in mind originally. Still rumbelle of course but there’s scenarios and facets from others in there too.

What’s a pairing (romantic or platonic) that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind?
Erm wow this ones hard. Exposure to pairings have made me love them more but I don’t know if I’ve ever changed my mind completely. My opinions usually just get reinforced. That isn’t always the case with everything. Tumblr has persuaded me to give entire shows a second look (Farscape being a case in point) but I don’t think that’s happened with pairings.

Sorry I guess I’m too stubborn /shrug
