To RCIJ or not to RCIJ? That is the question.

Never ask me I’m the worlds worst enabler for stuff like this…

I’m a fan of events like this, it’s just the community aspect, being a part of something. Plus I always hope that I make my giftee happy. I mean it is also incredibly nerve-wracking but for me the good has always outweighed the bad. So yeah I’m hopelessly biased. That being said do you have time? Will it be fun or stressful? Ultimately do whatever makes you the happiest 🙂

hey, it’s woodelf’s nervous rcij anon. i just wanted to say that i read your reblog and 1) cried happy tears and also 2) signed up for the event. (i’m super excited right now and i can’t wait to see my prompt *nervously happy flailing*) thank you for your encouragment and offer of help. i’ll probably take you up on that ^^”

Yay I’m so pleased to hear that you signed up! I’m excited too! Gift exchanges have a peculiar magic. It’s better than christmas waiting to see what prompt I get, but it’s also incredibly nerve wracking at the same time. Scary but fun! I sent in my sign-up this morning. It’s all happening heh 🙂

You are so very welcome *hugs you* my askbox is always open, feel free to message anytime should you need. I’m usually pretty good about responding quickly unless I’m sleeping. General rule is if I haven’t responded within 24 hours tumblr ate it, I don’t know why tumblr likes to eat things but it does.

Here’s to a good event! 🙂

you seem generally helpful, so i hope you don’t mind my asking this: assuming there were a person who loved the concept of the rcij event and was really enthusiastic about participating, but ALSO severely doubted their ability to produce anything another human being would want to look at… what advice would you give that person? asking for a friend.

woodelf68:

I would remember that there’s no word length required (if you’re a writer), and it doesn’t have to be some epic fic. If you’re an artist, silly little doodles are just as much fun as polished drawings. If you think your imagination can come up with something based on whatever prompt you get, then I say go for it!  The only way to get better at anything is with practice, after all. Plus you can always ask for brainstorming help from the mod of the event, if you need it, or someone else. Whatever you come up with, I’m sure your giftee will appreciate the effort you put into it. Fandom’s about enthusiasm, and sharing things, and that matters more than how good of an artist or a writer you are. Jump in, do your best, and have fun!

@woodelf68 I hope you don’t mind me chiming in on this.

Anon if you are enthusiastic about participating then please do! Personally I think enthusiasm, love for rumbelle and this community, is the most important thing. Everything else can be helped with but the enthusiasm has to come from you, that’s what it’s all about.

I assure you that your giftee for RCIJ will love anything you make because you made it for them and you put effort in.

I know it’s still scary though, I have a crisis of confidence on a regular basis. It’s because of that, that I can guarantee you that if you are nervous and you need support, then this fandom will step up. That’s why I joined this fandom because the people are lovely.

That being said I can understand being scared. I find it really intimidating to approach other people, especially if I’m asking for something like help. Now, I’m sure that you’ll get a lot of other offers but have a blanket one from me. If you need a support buddy for RCIJ then my askbox is always open.

Fandom question 10. And I feel you for time vanishing, I have no idea had it’s May already either :)

Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?

Yes? No? I’m trying to think. I read a lot of Harry Potter fic back in the day but … I might have written a few oneshots. Ditto with Alias. Hmm, recently I’ve read some Agents of Shield fic and I haven’t written any of that! … yet and yet is kinda the operative word.

Fitzsimmons is my OTP and they keep getting separated and hurt, and diving through holes in the universe to save one another. I kinda want to fix it and make them happy. About the only reason why I haven’t written fic yet is that I’m 5 episodes behind the US so it feels odd to write fic, when further developments have happened. All bets are off once I finish season four and the hiatus is on.

So yeah I think that if I read fic then sooner or later I usually wind up writing something. I just can’t help myself.

ripperblackstaff:

A Tshirt Nicholas Rush would love to own.

Somebody fic it! *checks AMR prompts* yeah I’m sure that could be worked in somewhere 🙂 I definitely think it would be a shirt that he would protest against, claim he’d been forced to wear but secretly actually quite like. I mean perish the thought that anyone realizes he has a sense of humor heh.

OMG HAPPY BIRTHDAY I HOPE IT’S AMAZING!!!! I wish I had an amazing fic ready and waiting for you like you had for me, but can I get a prompt from you and write something now? (I will write anything you want!!) *snuggles you tightly* Have a wonderful day my friend!!!

Thank you!

Awww you are too kind, that’s really not necessary, but if you want to then I’m not going to say no heh 🙂 Plus it gives everyone something cool to read! However, I confess I’m really rubbish at prompting. When I do gift exchanges I always worry about my poor gifter, and whether they are enjoying themselves and are happy writing what I prompted.

How about an addition to something you’ve already written? That way I can hopefully be quasi-sure that you’ll be happy. I see you have a regency romance on your list – A Hostage to Fortune. I was wondering why I hadn’t read it before as I have a major weakness for that setting but it seems to be a tumblr exclusive. If that’s because you didn’t really like it then please don’t feel obligated to add to the universe. Honestly you could write anything and I would love it! The choice is entirely yours 🙂

Zookeeper again! I didn’t think my last message went through because my Tumblr crashed, (darn thee to heck!) and I’m making some alterations. You’re still getting dragon!Belle in space with cranky Rush, but now he’s just gotten a little left behind because of a different dragon attack. Minor alterations. My brain wasn’t following through with my original idea, I couldn’t stick the ending. Still almost done though!

Heya

*kicks tumblr* honestly I think it’s time this place was serviced and had an oil change you know? Oh no! Rush got left behind! Haha, oh man this fic is going to be great. I hope you enjoy flailing in the comments because I’m probably going to get long.

I’m glad you are almost done. That’s a good feeling isn’t it? I’m looking at the clock and hoping I might be able to knock out the ending to mine this morning before I have to go out. If not then it’ll be tomorrow I should think, so very close, getting there 🙂

I seriously can’t wait to your fic! This is going to be epic!

Your Zookeeper had some issues with Tumblr, (I think it was one of those fake Tumblr login pages where they steal your junk? I didn’t plug my stuff in because it freaked me out and, lo and behold, it went away after a time,) but is here to say I’m ALMOST done with your gift! (By the way, I read most of your law smut fic thingums and AAAAHHH the Lachlan and Lacey one! THe Rushbelle one! Eek! <3)

Hey Zookeeper *waves*

I’m sorry tumblr gave your problems. That seems to be going around. Yay for almost being done! Posting day is two weeks tomorrow and I can’t wait! I’m really looking forward to reading this 🙂

Oh wow thank you! I’m glad you liked them. I know I kinda went a little overboard with the Order in the Court event, I just had so many ideas heh. This fandom is great for events though. There’s usually something going on and it’s always good fun.

I have a little bit well alright a fair bit left to do on my menagerie fic. It’s a bank holiday tomorrow and I’m going to *crack knuckles* get down and see if I can get it finished. Good luck with finishing yours! I can’t wait! 🙂

Knowing other language do this thing makes your Zookeeper feel much better. ‘:) I can neither confirm nor deny anything about meeting in flower fields. *hides keyboard* But the flowers themselves are just pretty things, no special properties except for smelling nice. (I’m leery about the dragon aspects of producing smut for this, so I could not in good faith write in some sex pollen. *le sigh*)

Hey

If you are leery about writing smut for this then you don’t have to do it. I mean I’m assuming that Belle can transform between human and dragon, so while she’s human she and Rush can fall in love and have all the smut, but if that’s not right for the story, then it’s not right. Ultimately I want you to enjoy writing this fic and to be comfortable with it.

Sex pollen actually never crossed my mind. I’m not fond of that trope anyway because of all the implicit consent issues. So good to know! Anyway I’m glad that knowing the vagaries of the English language aren’t unique is reassuring for you. I hope you are having a good week and that the fic behaves itself 🙂

Zookeeper fact: Even when I the author know the context, putting the words “Secret” and “Flower” beside each other inevitably looks like a bodice-ripper innuendo. *sigh* It’s a *secret flower* field. A field of flowers, in secret. WHY DO YOU DO THESE THINGS ENGLISH LANGUAGE??? Thank you for your time.

Haha

Oh man I know this feel. Strangely it doesn’t crop up that much in fiction but sometimes I’ll be typing talking to someone (like this I guess) and I’ll think “no I can’t say that because well this ^^” honestly are other languages like it? Do they have multiple meanings for the same word? Also change the meaning depending on what word they are paired with? You know I think this makes it even more incredible that so many people learn English. It’s a weird language.

Anyway I’m guessing there is a secret flower field 🙂 Do these flowers have special properties of interest? Is this how Rush stumbles across Belle? I know, I know, patience I have to wait but it’s less than a month now! Which is simultaneously terrifying and also good. I can’t wait to read and see if I’m right on my guess about your identity 🙂

I hope you are having a good week!

i-am-the-knight replied to your post “Zookeeper fact: Even when I the author know the context, putting the…”

Sorry to barge in, but yes! Other languages absolutely do have this. In German, there’s a whole game based on the fact. (It’s called “Teekesselchen”, meaning “tea pot” and nothing else, ironically, and involves two people agreeing on a word and then both taking turns, each giving one sentence of description to the other players until they guess the word.)  (We make our own fun ^^“)

Oh that’s fascinating! I love word games but I’ve not heard of that one before. Thank you for sharing that! 🙂
