you seem generally helpful, so i hope you don’t mind my asking this: assuming there were a person who loved the concept of the rcij event and was really enthusiastic about participating, but ALSO severely doubted their ability to produce anything another human being would want to look at… what advice would you give that person? asking for a friend.

woodelf68:

I would remember that there’s no word length required (if you’re a writer), and it doesn’t have to be some epic fic. If you’re an artist, silly little doodles are just as much fun as polished drawings. If you think your imagination can come up with something based on whatever prompt you get, then I say go for it!  The only way to get better at anything is with practice, after all. Plus you can always ask for brainstorming help from the mod of the event, if you need it, or someone else. Whatever you come up with, I’m sure your giftee will appreciate the effort you put into it. Fandom’s about enthusiasm, and sharing things, and that matters more than how good of an artist or a writer you are. Jump in, do your best, and have fun!

@woodelf68 I hope you don’t mind me chiming in on this.

Anon if you are enthusiastic about participating then please do! Personally I think enthusiasm, love for rumbelle and this community, is the most important thing. Everything else can be helped with but the enthusiasm has to come from you, that’s what it’s all about.

I assure you that your giftee for RCIJ will love anything you make because you made it for them and you put effort in.

I know it’s still scary though, I have a crisis of confidence on a regular basis. It’s because of that, that I can guarantee you that if you are nervous and you need support, then this fandom will step up. That’s why I joined this fandom because the people are lovely.

That being said I can understand being scared. I find it really intimidating to approach other people, especially if I’m asking for something like help. Now, I’m sure that you’ll get a lot of other offers but have a blanket one from me. If you need a support buddy for RCIJ then my askbox is always open.
