Hello Giftee! I’m aiming to start writing work on your gift on Saturday and I’m pretty finalised with a plot direction now. Before I begin, is there anything you *don’t* want to see? I know you’re a big Regina fan so she’s definitely got a good role in there, and I was also thinking of including Jefferson in a minor role. Let me know your thoughts! ~ Santa

Heya *waves*

Nice to hear from you Santa, I hope you are doing well and having a good week! First off I’m going to sound like a broken record, but please don’t feel obligated to include any characters you personally don’t like. I want you to enjoy yourself, yes I love Regina but if you don’t then please don’t make yourself miserable. Same goes for anyone else.

That being said I love Jefferson! So that sounds like an awesome plan 🙂 So what don’t I want to see? Well I’m not a tremendous fan of Hook, Zelena or the Blue Fairy unless they are villains. I don’t like infidelity. *wracks brain* I’m quite easy going to be honest. I’m fairly standard in my tastes. If you are contemplating anything you would term extreme then you can check but otherwise go for it! Do whatever you want 🙂

I hope you have a great week Santa and that the fic is kind to you!

Hello from Santa! Just checking in to say I hope you’re having an ok weekend. I’m trying to clear my deck of outstanding writing so that I can focus on your gift. ;-) I also have now got a copy of the film! I know you said it didn’t have to follow the film very strictly but if I’m doing a film then I like to watch the film first, even if I then deviate. That’s tomorrow night’s entertainment sorted! ~ Santa

Awwww Santa

You are so sweet! I hope you’ll enjoy the movie because it would be a real shame if you didn’t. I know movie AU prompts are a bit unpopular for this reason, but I figured the basic summary would be enough and so it might be alright. I really hope you didn’t feel obligated. Oh *hugs you* I hope you have a great weekend!

My weekend is going alright so far. Well … I spent the afternoon (and evening) on my entry for this months Monthly Rumbelling prompt and while I was working the whole time, it doesn’t look like I accomplished much *glares at it* still I should have at least some of tomorrow to work on it some more.

*hugs you again* you are awesome Santa! 🙂

Camp NaNoWriMo: Rumbelle Style

im-not-a-what:

still-searching47:

Yes it is that time again. In July there is another session of Camp NaNo and just like in April I will be running a cabin! I know RCIJ has to be posted on the 23rd but for the first three weeks camp could be a boost if anyone wanted it.

For anyone that doesn’t know Camp NaNo is different from regular November NaNo in a couple of crucial ways:

  1. You can set your own word count goal (I don’t think there’s a minimum value so set it as high or as low as you like)
  2. They allow you to track time and pages, in addition to words. So you could write a screenplay, edit a story, plan a story, write poetry, whatever you want really.
  3. They have these things called cabins

It is because of these cabins that I am making this post.

A dozen Rumbelle writers signed up for the April session, and I think it went well so let’s go again. The cabins are for 20 writers and they have like a messageboard thing allowing communication on the NaNo site. I’ve always found it’s easier to write knowing I’m among friends, rather than sitting alone banging my head against the keyboard. I’ve been doing Camp NaNo for years and it always sucks if the cabin is a ghost town so in my cabin:

  1. I post daily facts everyday for inspiration purposes
  2. I post a daily word count challenge
  3. Time zones permitting I run word sprints

Generally I’ve found that so long as somebody’s talking, then the cabin picks up in activity anyway. So got a fanfic you want to finish? Doing RCIJ? Just wanting a boost in the writing stakes?

Camp NaNo is a lot more relaxed than regular NaNo, as I said above you can work on different kinds of writing, or different parts of the writing process, or even on lots of projects at once. Camp is really about just making progress on things, and getting stuff done in a supportive and friendly environment. So there’s no real barrier to joining in the fun 🙂

If you would like to join then sign up and/or create a project on the Camp NaNo site. Then reply/reblog/message me with your NaNo username and I will send you a cabin invite. You must create your project first or the invite won’t work. Any questions or anything let me know 🙂

This sounds awesome! Is it all right to join the cabin if you’re a Rumbeller but aren’t working on a Rumbelle fic? Maybe if the project takes inspiration from Rumbelle? ;D

Absolutely! It’s called Rumbelle Style because the advert for the cabin was aimed at the Rumbelle fandom. You can work on whatever project you like during the month! It doesn’t have to be inspired by Rumbelle at all. I just figured if we all had ‘liking Rumbelle’ as a common point of interest, it would make for a friendly cabin is all 🙂 So you are more than welcome to join!

Hello my dear, Santa here! I’ve been thinking some more about your fic. Still haven’t started writing it yet *shameface*. Anyway, I’ve had a couple of ideas I wanted to get your opinion on! I was thinking of having teen Bae/Neal arrive after Milah decides to give up her custody of him in order to move to the Italian Riviera to live on a boat with her boyfriend. (cont)

(cont) And I was also thinking of having someone like Mal or Ursula be Gold’s boss/the restaurant owner, someone that he would respect but not be afraid to speak his mind to, and vice versa. Let me know what you think! ~ Santa

Hey Santa *waves*

That’s alright I haven’t had chance to start my RCIJ fic either, there’s still plenty of time. That sounds like a great way to get Bae/Neal involved! As a teenager there could be a lot of friction there, which Belle could soothe as only Belle can. Regarding Gold’s boss, I hadn’t really given it much thought. I suppose I’d given passing consideration to Regina because she’s a favorite of mine and it would be nice if she was involved somehow.

I don’t know how you feel about Regina, please don’t feel you have to try and include anyone you don’t like. I want you to enjoy writing this fic! Either Mal or Ursula sounds great! Personally I’ve always struggled to get a handle on Ursula as a character, I find Mal easier to write myself, but basically choose whomever you would like to write and think fits best, it’s all good with me 🙂 I’m happy with whatever honestly. Just have fun!

I hope you have a good week Santa!

ETA: I’m an idiot. I just assumed it was a fic because probability says that’s likely. If it’s not a fic then that’s very cool Santa! I love everything! Seriously, anything and everything that you could make is fine. I will flail excitedly no matter what 🙂

*checks anon is on* *double checks anon is on* Hello there! I am your RCIJ Santa 2017! I am thrilled to have you as my giftee and I really hope that I can do your prompt justice. I’ve not seen the film, but looking up the summary on Wikipedia, I think it’s perfect to be rumbelled! I’ll speak to you soon. :-) *triple checks anon is on and hits send*

Hey *waves* It’s great to hear from you!

I’m really quite easy as a giftee. My primary concern is that you enjoy yourself. The last thing I want is for you to make yourself miserable writing a fic that you don’t want to write. I know movie AU’s can be problematic, so please don’t feel you have to follow the source material strictly or anything.

I was thinking just the premise. Gold as the head chef that lives for his work. Belle as the bright, messy, new chef in the kitchen who brings light to his kitchen and his life. You could include the kid angle if you want. Maybe Gold gets custody of Bae/Neal again after several years and while he loves his son, he doesn’t know how to adapt his life.

It’s entirely up to you what you do though. I leave everything in your very capable hands. I just want you to have fun. Seriously that is what I want most. If you have any problems at all, or just want to chat, then feel free to shoot an ask anytime. If I haven’t responded within 24 hours then tumblr has eaten it. Have fun!

Oh by the way I will tag all my responses #RCIJ Santa Reply 🙂 Also to avoid panic about anon, open your browser in incognito mode. If you aren’t logged in, then you can’t be on anything but anon.

I have a question.

If you are doing a gift exchange, how attached are you to your prompt?

Ride or die | A little put out | Eh, whatever | I can’t even remember my prompt

Eh, whatever. Not at all attached. This is critical for me personally. If I’m attached to my prompt, I want to write it, and if I want to write it, I will imagine it a certain way in my head and risk being unfair to the person who treats it the way they want to. Which they have every right to do, because once I give it away, it’s in that person’s capable hands, and they should do whatever they choose and take the prompt where their unique imagination goes.

In general, I want anything and am thrilled with any gift that honors what I love and pays time and attention to my likes and interests.

“Eh, whatever.”

Honestly, what I enjoy most about gift exchanges is being ‘assigned’ to produce something, having a deadline. That pressure keeps me motivated, and the stuff I’ve done for exchanges feels so much better and more inspired to me than the stuff I do on my own.

I honestly just pull a prompt out of my ass while I’m signing up. I couldn’t care less how loosely my gifter interprets it. They can throw it in the trash and write something totally different, for all I care. I just want them to have fun.

Thanks for the feedback,
ifishouldvanish

and @mariequitecontrarie. I know I’m not attached to my prompt, but I also see people tying themselves in knots filling other people’s prompts. I like the social aspect and giving love and of course making something pretty for someone, but I don’t like the stress of trying to make art about a fanfic prompt. (which let’s face it, most of the prompts are) And I actually have time this year to do rcij, so now I’m leaning towards signing up.

@thechloris I for one would adore receiving art from you, and I think many people would feel the same.

If you should ever receive me for a giftee, make me absolutely anything and I will go crazy for it!!!

@thechloris events aren’t just for fic! I’m constantly trying to promote @a-monthly-rumbelling for art (sorry I know this is about RCIJ but it’s relevant) because while people have just done fic for months literally anything is welcome. Drawing? Great! Gifset? Fantastic! Captioned Screenshots? Have fun! I think most people do fic simply because it’s accessible. Whereas graphics require software and practice to know how to use said software.

So please if you want to sign up, I echo @mariequitecontrarie when I say I would be thrilled if you were my gifter. I would put whatever art you made on my ‘always reblog’ list and I would gush in the tags and love it to bits. This doesn’t just go for art but for fan videos or metas, or playlists, or anything else people are inspired to make. There’s more to fandom than fic and everything is amazing and extremely welcome!

Thank you! 🙂

5)

Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
I don’t think so? I’m trying to think. If anything it’s usually the other way round. I’ll see so many sweet gifsets that I’ll start shipping something that I didn’t really think all that much about before. In fact thanks to gifsets I even took a second look at an entire TV show – Farscape. I’d tried one episode of that, decided I didn’t like it – 100 awesome gifsets later – I had the collectors edition complete boxset (I’ve just started watching season four).

6) Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
Nope, I hate very few pairings to begin with, so there’s not much chance for fandom to change my mind that much. Fandom did make me really ship Swanfire when I’d been ‘I like it but I don’t care’ beforehand. I did curse fandom a little bit for that, making me love a doomed ship heh 🙂 That’s all that really comes to mind. The thing is I did like Swanfire before, so it was like into love. Mostly with ships I either see it or I don’t.

7) Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?
Yes and no. For instance Hook, I didn’t like him back in season two but I liked his character. I thought he had a good arc, in terms of how he connected to Rumple and Bae/Neal. He had the whole revenge thing going on which played off well against Regina, showcasing character development. He was a villain, unapologetic about doing whatever it took in pursuit of his aims. I understood why he wanted revenge, I was never going to side with him because I’m 100% TeamRumple but Hook was a good character.

Now? Hook is out of his element. He hasn’t changed but how people react to him has. I never minded being an arsehole in season two because there’s nothing wrong with a good villain. As another example I hated Zelena’s actions in 3b (I will never forgive her for Neal or for what she did to Rumple) but Zelena was a villain. She had some awesome sarcastic lines, I loved to hate her. Then just like with Hook, it’s a bit like slipping into an alternate reality, they haven’t changed as characters but everyone is saying they are heroes. It’s like what people say, and what they do, are completely different, there’s this disconnect going on.

So I can’t stand either Hook or Zelena now most of the time, because it ruins suspension of disbelief. They are changing the other characters around them, making the characters I love act out of character, and do stupid things, and so I don’t like it. Now, I have no problem with either Hook or Zelena staying around on the show. I just wish it had been done in a way that rang true and made sense. There has to be justification, I loathe forced march plotting. Where the writers/creators have obviously decided something has to happen, and so it’s very much “because I said so.” I really can’t stand that.

Ask Me? Salty Ask List

Hi, I sent a question about Dream!Rumbelle and their wedding night but I haven’t seen it answered yet, did you get it?

Yes I did!

I’ve had quite a few questions today. It’s being a banner TMI Tuesday, some weeks I get crickets and today an avalanche. I’m so grateful to all of you for sending them in. I love questions! 🙂

image

Anyway, it’s just taking me a little bit to answer them all. I have to think about the answers and there’s also a few other things I should be doing *cough* but don’t worry tumblr hasn’t eaten it! I know tumblr eats asks sometimes, but I do have that one and I will be answering it asap 🙂

Thank you again!

Fic-a-thon idea

Does anyone remember the 50 First Hamburger Dates ficathon we had back in season 2?

We should do that again. We know Belle wants to see the world. We know Rumple wants to be the one to show it to her. Now they have their happy ending with their baby, and can leave town without worrying that everything will be on fire when they get back, it’s safe to assume travel might be in their future.

Would anyone be interested in an event over the summer with stories about those travels? There’s the whole world to choose from, and any kind of adventure you want.

How about the time they went to Rome and accidentally ended up solving a murder? The time they went to Thailand and discovered dragons also made it to the Land Without Magic? The time they went to the Bahamas and spent a solid week on the beach, and Belle discovered that where logic and reason fail, the promise of her in a red string bikini, Gideon wanting to paddle, and a private beach, is enough to tempt Rumple into slightly more casual clothing?

…I also kind of want to call it Rumbelle Happy Trails but that might be misinterpreted xD So how about Rumbelle See The World?

Thoughts?

1000% behind this. Count me in! I think it’s a brilliant idea and utterly perfect for Rumbelle!

I wasn’t around for the previous ficathon so I don’t know how this will work but I’m in no matter what really. Just tell me what I have to do and I will do it 🙂

What was cool about the Hamburger Dates one was that there wasn’t one big posting day – instead, everyone who signed up got assigned a day to post (some days were double-booked, I think), so for like fifty days there was guaranteed at least one awesome fic posted 😀 There weren’t any penalties for not posting, either, it was just a fun way to fill the winter hiatus that year before RSS.

On the other hand, that might be a lot of effort, so one big posting day mid-august could also work.

If you need help organizing I volunteer. I’ve seen that kind of “claim a day” thing before, not for fic but for pep talks during November NaNo. There was a spreadsheet on google docs and people added themselves to a free day. That might be a good way to do it. This is your show though so just let me know if I can help in any way 🙂
