Assassin’s Creed Update!

(not using the title because that seems way too announcey)

A couple of weeks ago I rambled about AC Origins (and Odyssey) which I had got in the Steam summer sale. I said I’d mostly played Origins because that came first but I was enjoying it. I had a few gripes about aiming and the camera but for the most point it was a thumbs up.

Anyway I was enjoying it and the sale was still going on so I kinda … maybe *cough* bought Syndicate and Black Flag as well. I did restrain myself because I was tempted to get AC II, Brotherhood and Rogue as well. I didn’t because I wasn’t sure how the graphics would hold up these days and also I figured I had enough game with the 4 I already had to last me until next years steam summer sale!

I couldn’t resist Syndicate because it’s Warehouse 12 era (they even have a grappler gun!) and Black Flag is pirates. Those themes were just *grabby hands*. Now I haven’t booted Black Flag yet but I’ve played a few hours of Syndicate, so how is it different from Origins?

Well 1) the combat is a bit easier for me. I find I can see when to block etc. a lot easier. 2) the camera behaves! I can adjust it no problem with the controller which is how it should be (seriously that is the #1 thing that annoys me the most about Origins and otherwise I love that game).

There’s a lot of things that are the same which makes sense as it’s a franchise game. It’s comfortable in the familiarity and I like that. It’s not as open world as Origins with the sequences and I’m still not sure whether the bonus objectives are important or not. I’ve mostly been playing as Evie which is cool.

There seems to be more story in Syndicate around the whole “assassin’s creed” thing with pieces of Eden and more modern day stuff. I’m a little bit confused but that’s what google is for so if I have questions I’m sure I can find answers 🙂

Ok tried out Lego Marvel Avengers and it’s not as good as Superheroes imo. The enemies spawn way too quickly and never stop spawning. Despite the health bar death doesn’t seem to be a mechanic so it’s not an issue it’s just annoying. It makes it harder to puzzle out what the problem is as I’m just having to button smash.

Which is another thing. In superheroes button A was for movement, button X was for attack and B was reserved for special skills. In this it seems like B is the one to hit for attack and special? It’s weird. Plus the guiding hand comes from these giant Avenger ‘A’ that spawn which you have to hit in order to get the clue. I prefer Coulson over the radio to be honest.

Anyway it’s still good. I have to go raid (hopefully) heroic Eternal Palace now which is a shame because it swapped from Ultron back to the start of the Avengers and MARIA HILL IS PLAYABLE – that opening sequence a) made me love that character and b) is one of my favourites from the whole MCU.

I’ll have to pick it up another day 🙂

So I got the game 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

It’s Lego Marvel Superheroes/Avengers by the way.

(I had a while back tried I think a Star Wars Lego? Anyway I didn’t like it. I don’t know if that’s because it was even older? or if I didn’t get into the spirit of what the game was? but it doesn’t matter because I like this one. I played it when I went to a Retro Computer Museum earlier this month and it gave me the taste.)

I have a Steam Link and I tried to play it through that but the picture just froze. The sound was ok but no picture. I googled and it might be something to do with the Powerline adaptor I’m using? I don’t know. It has worked in the past so /shrug anyway I didn’t have the patience to debug it today.

Instead I plugged the controller dongle thing into my PC and just turned around (my couch is in the middle of the room facing the TV, and my PC is directly behind the couch, and actually my PC screen is bigger than the TV) and so I played it like that.

I have to say I love all the little in-jokes. I keep spotting more and more, like I swear I keep seeing Daredevil, or Stan Lee, or movie posters :p and the quips on the voice acting are hilarious.

I’m not very good with the controller and I keep hitting the other characters, sometimes killing them with friendly fire, but as the heart/life mechanic doesn’t seem to do anything? it doesn’t seem to matter. I’ve never really played with a controller very much and my fingers don’t know where the buttons are so I keep hitting the wrong ones.

I really like the puzzle element of the game, trying to work out how to get places. It’s tricky and takes me a while sometimes. The underlying mechanic is pretty much the same obviously but how it works matches the characters. Thus far they seem to have done a really good job with the abilities. The characterisation is good. It’s interesting.

Also it’s really cool that Clark Gregg voiced Coulson. He’s like a guiding hand and it really feels immersive with the very recognisable voice.

Ooops I didn’t intend to kinda review. Oh well, thus far would recommend the Superheroes, haven’t tried the Avengers yet but there’s playable Fitzsimmons I think? So that’ll be awesome regardless.

I get why they do it because “exclusive” is an enticement to get people to buy. However I really wish game companies wouldn’t release console exclusive titles.

For example I really would like to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. I still miss Marvel Heroes and the YouTube videos I’ve watched look similar BUT it is Nintendo Switch exclusive and I don’t have one of those.

Sorry whiny entitled rant over. It’s just they are losing out in my opinion as I’m sure I’m not the only one in the world that would have attempted to find the money for the game, but can’t afford to shell out for the console.

Ah such is life heh
