So that happened.

I also think (and I haven’t said this before it just occurred to me) that the writers fuck-up started back in season one with a very key thing.
Intervening years? What intervening years?
True there was some stuff very soon after the last movie with the Romulans but then Picard sat in his vineyard for 15 years until the next TV show came around. Yeah they gave Riker a family but for the most part again kinda exiled on pause. Some more stuff is coming up now like he had command of the Titan at some point etc. but for the most part it feels like they had no idea what these guys did until the “next adventure” (aka now) and that is maybe partly why it feels so fake and weird.
I mean I write sometimes and creating a living breathing world is damn hard. I constantly find myself going “well what do these characters do all day?” “Where are there friends?” Because it is so easy to fall into the trap of them being in a bubble and only existing in written scenes and not much in between. But it makes for a very shallow life and poor motivation and emotional resonance.
Another problem with the nostalgia element is that it doesn’t let the characters grow properly.
Seriously I do wonder these days if people working on franchises get a kick out of seeing how little effort they need to make. It’s like “oh it has trek / Star Wars / marvel etc. in the name and that’s enough”
Dude no it isn’t.
Ok so I mostly like stuff on mobile and then batch tag and reblog when I am on the PC. This is because I’m lazy, and because I can’t remember my tags. That’s ok because auto-fill is there….
… except it’s not.
Apparently no tags are remembered AT ALL anymore and I do not know why.
So consistency of tagging? I miss you. Seriously it’s the kind of thing that bothers me. I just do not have the spoons right now to fix it.
Side note I adore the new Trek intro that is in front of Picard now as well as SNW. With the ship with the rainbow ribbon exhaust.
Laris was such missed potential. A former Romulan intelligence agent? WHY WHY did she not get to go on the adventures? Such a badass and left at home for shame.
Ok Picard 3.02
My heart is still pounding to be honest.
Spoilers spoilers, many spoilers, all the warnings.

Picard episode one.
Let’s see if I can be coherent.
Obviously spoilers. Spoiler alert. All the spoilers.
Right ok first breathe. That was a lot.
Continue readingA couple of years back I watched all the Trek movies back to back (before I watched the shows) and I thought Insurrection was one of the better ones.
Weirdly when people complained about how dark the Federation was in Picard season one, Insurrection was what came to mind, as being like “well the Federation has form”.
Admittedly as I said I am still making my way through the various shows. So it’s possible it’s incongruous I don’t know.
I’ve watched a few episodes of Next Gen recently. Am I alone in thinking the show hits it’s stride in season three? I have been slow watching due to not vibing at all with season 1 and 2. It’s like I was thinking I know these characters, I like these characters but ugh. But now I am thinking “hmm ok this is getting alright” now I am into season three
I’m not sure I can pinpoint precisely what has changed. Well I wasn’t a tremendous fan of Crushers replacement but it’s obviously more than that.
You have been spared.
I rambled a whole miserable post, full of whining, and then I posted it to my locked private side blog rather than subjecting the world to it.
As much as I wish someone would understand, I don’t really like to go in for attention-seeking. It is what it is. Why make it everyone else’s problem?
So random POSITIVE thought of the day – I love AirPlay.
I know it’s Apple and the internet loves to hate that but it is so damn cool, and so convenient. I have been screencasting off my iPad to my TV regularly and I love it. I have some art courses and it’s so nice to watch the video parts on the shiny big screen. I am grateful for that. Technology is amazing sometimes.
There. Much better than spreading the misery /nods
