Hey! Great job on Fall All Over Again. I read the end today and it did not disappoint! What are you working on/thinking through?

Awww thank you! *hugs you* that’s really kind. I’m so glad you liked it!

I have so many ideas it’s crazy. Right now I obviously have my three active projects. The two WIP’s – Painting Layers of Love and Under My Skin; and the prompt verse The Price We Pay which has 5 prompts still to be filled. However, you already know about those so that’s not that interesting.

So what is up next? Honestly even if I just talk about event fics for the next couple of months we’re getting into double digits. I have nearly another dozen ideas I’m itching to dive into on top of that and I haven’t picked my “next big project” out of that list yet. It’s hard to choose because I love all the ideas. Heh reading down the ideas list trying to pick just a couple to talk about is making it even harder.

Oooh I know, I’ll just write a list with the working titles I have which should get across the basic premise.

  • Divorce and Escorts
  • Lachacy Community Service
  • Cops and Prosecutors
  • Rushbelle Marriage of Convenience (already written this one)
  • May Day Menagerie fic (super secret due to anonymous rules)
  • GoldenLace Bonnie and Clyde
  • The Winning Bid
  • Secret Agent AU
  • Nightwalkers (There has been a murder in Storybrooke)
  • GoldenLace Enchanted Bowl (from the bowling prompt I just adopted)
  • Once Upon a Lifetime sequel
  • From the prompt ‘Please don’t make me socialize’ (Single mom Belle)
  • Rushacy University
  • Rule Number Three (Enchanted Forest AU)
  • Ripple Effect (Rushbelle AU)
  • + 5 April Monthly Rumbelling ideas

The top four are for Rumbelle Order in the Court so I have until the deadline of April 11th to work on the remaining three, and obviously it’s May 1st for the May Day Menagerie. As for everything else? I don’t know how to choose.

PLOL Belle: (sorry if this has been asked before) but would you consider having Nick sit for you and paint him? I think it would be perfect.

image

*blushes furiously* I … I might … I might have sort of already … I could never show him! I know that he’s always been so nice about my paintings. When he showed me *shivers* well I now know that I’m painting what I intend. However, everything else that I’ve painted I saw before the accident. All I have is how Nick’s face felt, when he let me map his features with my hands. What if I got it horribly wrong? I don’t want to offend him …

(OOC: Don’t worry 🙂 Gold will see that painting one day)

PLL!Belle – Would you let Nick watch you paint now that you know he isn’t lying about your art?

image

Oh Nick wouldn’t want to do that. I’m sure that would be really boring for him. I know I would only make a mess of whatever I was trying to paint, I’d be so self-conscious. Besides my art is private, especially the unfinished pieces.

(OOC: I’m going to have to make this happen now!)

Do you have any tips for someone planning on doing something kind of like nanowrimo (basically writing something everyday to get to 50k words at the end) for this up coming month? The longest thing I’ve ever finished was a 20k fic and that took over a year of stops and starts. So I’m kind of worried I wont be able to write an original story.

Oh anon I’m touched you are asking. I hope I’ll be able to help you!

My number one tip is tracking.
I believe the NaNo site offers a way to do that year round now with their goal trackers. To write 50k in March that averages out at 1613 words a day. Sounds scary right? I mean the problem isn’t doing it once, it’s doing it every single day. Life happens, build up a word debt and then the totals start getting crazy. Been there. I know that panic, but it is avoidable. How?

Break it down
I don’t know how fast you write. That is the first thing you should work out. Get a timer of some description and when you are prepared, set it to go for 15 minutes and start writing. At the end you’ll have an idea of how many words you can write in a certain time frame. That is your baseline.

I mean March is tomorrow so you might have to go by memory but find your free time basically. What do you do now that you could cut down on a little for a month? I don’t know about you but personally I could cut down on scrolling tumblr, cut down on watching TV, I could definitely cut down on playing games on my phone. That gives you writing time and you’ll know how much you need to find because of your baseline.

Now I said to write for 15 minutes because that’s long enough to get into the story and make some progress, but not so long that attention starts to wander. You might well be able to focus a lot better than I can, but 15 mins is kinda my maximum. The trick to writing a certain amount, within a certain time frame is focus. Far easier said than done, but this is when tricking the brain comes in.

Like I said saying “I have to write 1613 words a day!!!” is super scary. Saying “I’ve just got to write for 15 minutes” is not that much of a big deal. Do that a few times and then you’ll have your words. You don’t have to break it down by time either. One of my favorite ways to break a chunk of words down is to roll a dice and write that many hundred words. I mean you can even follow  a word crawl if you like, which breaks it up for you. I actually wrote one for Once Upon a Time if you are a fan of that anon.

Back to tracking
Right I said my number one tip is tracking. That isn’t just to scare the hell out of you by working out the “average words needed per day” it’s also a good tool for encouragement. During NaNo season I update my word count fairly obsessively because I like seeing the numbers go up.

Then I’ll see that I’m fairly close to my next thousand and I’ll write a little more to get there. Then I’ll see how much I’ve written that day and I’ll be near a pretty number for that and so I’ll write a little more. Each goal is usually only a few hundred words away. A few hundred at a time is less of a big deal.

Preparation
This is kind of a “your mileage may vary” thing. Some people like to write by the seat of their pants and see where the story takes them, other people like to write full scene by scene outlines. I don’t know what kind of writer you are anon and neither approach is wrong. However, what I would say is whether you are a pantser or a planner always end a writing session knowing where you are going next.

Write yourself a note saying “next time person A slaps person B” or you know whatever. That’s just a random example. This means when you sit down to write for your next session you aren’t going “urk I’ve got no clue what to write” because oh boy that is a big time waster. If you always know what you are writing then you can just dive straight in and get on with it.

Last couple of things
Forgive yourself. Far easier said than done, I am terrible for this but it’s important. Bad writing days happen for everybody. If you don’t write one day then try and let it go, so it doesn’t drag you down. Also don’t feel you have to catch up in one day, catch up over a few days so it’s not like trying to climb such a big mountain.

Friends. We all need cheerleaders. If you haven’t got a writing buddy anon then feel free to hit my askbox anytime and I’ll be that person for you. I believe that you can write anything you want. The first time I wrote 50k in a month, I hadn’t written much of anything in about a year. That was actually also my first original story. While practice does make it easier, everybody has to start somewhere. You’re worried you won’t be able to do it but you won’t know until you try. Plus no matter how far you get, you’ll still have more than you started with and you’ll have learned things. You can do this! I believe in you.

TMI Tuesday

Ask me anything about my fics, ask my characters anything. You can send me a word and if it’s in my WIP doc then I’ll post a teaser snippet. I accept prompts for any of my existing verses.

This week I posted:
Chapter Nine of Painting Layers of Love
Sweet Masquerade (A Monthly Rumbelling fic, nsfw)
Bless the Broken Road (A Monthly Rumbelling fic)
Chapter Five of Fall All Over Again

Ask Box

Masterlist

You could also ask me a question off any of these lists.

First, your Zookeeper just finished some other projects, so now I can work on yours exclusively for the rest of the week! *confetti!* Secondly: I’m going to do some tinkering and see what comes up. I might be thinking too hard about this, hmm…if I have questions, I shall come to you! Thank you! :)

Heya

Ooooh that’s great! Massive congrats! It always feels so good to finish things, yay you! 🙂 I haven’t started my Menagerie fic yet as such. I have my plot, the start of an outline, and three scenes which came to me at 3am and I had to write in note form on my phone. I’ve done pretty well with finishing things up myself so very soon the Menagerie fic will have my full attention as well 🙂

Yeah my askbox is always open and I don’t mind if you send a million messages heh 🙂 It’s all good. I hope you have a brilliant week and the fic treats you kindly!

Everybody’s panicking about Castro’s talk about the end of the series… but seriously, am I the only one happy about this?

You’re not the only one, Sis!

Panicking? I could only panic about it because I do not how to celebrate it, THIS COULD FINALLY END, the awful writing, the cliche, the rape culture couple (cough CS cough), the pointless plots and useless new characters, the dropped plots, the BLATANT RETCONING, THE OCCNESS, CS, it could all end, AND BEFORE SOMEONE SAYS TO STOP WATCHING IF YOU HATE IT, I SAY THIS. I WOULD HAVE DONE IT IF NOT FOR ROBERT CARLYLE AND HIS AMAZING ACTING SKILLS

Shit.  The show ended for me already.

It’s been sitting out in the sun, bloated and rotting, for a couple of seasons at this point.  It’s about time they hooked a toe tag on it and shoved it in the morgue for good.

My only fear is that the fic will dry up and the Rumbelle fandom will disperse. I would miss you guys so much. The canon means nothing to me but this fandom is a huge part of my life.

Same. I love Rumbelle forever and I have people in this fandom that I seriously don’t know what I would do without. I would miss the people so much. ❤

This post thread is so reassuring. My big fear about cancellation was that the fandom would suddenly disappear like smoke on the wind. I know I’ve only been part of this community for less than a year but I would really miss it.

I guess maybe because we’ve been existing in spite of canon for a while, canon not being around will perhaps not be as big a deal as it might have been. I’m certainly not planning on going anywhere whether we get a season seven or not 🙂

Your Zookeeper has 2 questions: First, on the matter of smut, yes or no? I can go either way, it’s at your discretion. Secondly, my usual style of writing is failing me, so do you have a problem with the story being told mainly from Belle’s POV? Apparently I can’t write science fiction clearly to save my sole, but I think I could handle Belle watching from the outside looking in, sort working up to the fact that she’s more than she appears, too. Thoughts? (Help?)

Heya *waves* You have questions, I hopefully have answers 🙂

1) When it comes to smut I think I put this on my signup form, it’s cool either way. So if the story works for smut and you want to write it then great! If the story doesn’t work, or you don’t want to, then also great. Ultimately it’s what feels right for you. I guess that’s a bad answer, seeing as you said it was at my discretion heh, but I just wanted to make that clear. I guess if it works for the story, it makes sense, Rush and Belle are in character, and you are ok with it, then smut is always welcome. Is that an ok answer?

2) I love science fiction. Seriously it’s probably my favorite genre so if you have any questions/there’s anything I can do to help, then feel free to blow up my askbox as much as you’d like 🙂 That being said, write in whatever POV works for you. I really don’t mind. This is your story. I want you to have fun writing it. If sci-fi is really doing your head in, then don’t make it sci-fi. Go back to the pure fantasy you proposed to begin with. Please don’t be miserable!

So how was your weekend? I hope you had a nice time and I have you have a good week ahead! 🙂

Anyone ever think about why some TV shows (or movies, books, etc) inspire you to be active in the fandom, and others don’t? I don’t know about other people, but I typically have one TV show at time that I’m truly obsessed over, and want to discuss with others, and read/write fanfic for. My other TV shows I just watch. I enjoy them, but most of the time when an episode finishes, I don’t really think about it again till it airs the next week.

Are there factors which make a show a fandom show for you?

For me, it’s 100% the OTP factor. I would so LIKE to transition out of OUAT to any one of the much better shows that I watch and enjoy (and all of them are better), but I just can’t find an OTP that moves me like Rumbelle does.

^^ same

Also, I am consistent about this because I have watched other really terrible shows because of OTPs. (Ask me about V 2009 and my lizards in love sometime.)

The OTP factor has been mentioned by several people….so I’ll rephrase the question. What makes an OTP, an OTP for you? Is there a magic formula? Does it have to do with liking the actors, or have you noticed similarities in your OTP’s stories? Or is it all just random and unexplainable?

And if any multi-shippers see this (I know I’m mutuals with a few), I’d love your input as well. If you multi-ship, then obviously you don’t have just ONE True Pairing….so how does fandom fever strike for you?

This looks like an interesting discussion *slides in quietly at the back*

Ok this might sound weird but a show becomes a fandom show for me, not actually because of anything to do with the show but because of the fandom itself. If I like a show then I will google it and read fanfic, watch fanvids etc. That will sometimes lead me to stumble across fandom, through fansites etc. It’s the people in the fandom that get me to join.

Now I admit I liked Once Upon a Time a lot before I joined the fandom. I liked it more than I liked most shows even before I got to fandom. My love for Once Upon a Time is second only to my love of Stargate. I’d written tens of thousands of words of blog posts analyzing story arcs, character motivations etc. I’d even written some fanfic before I ever joined the fandom. However, I never would have written the 400k of fanfic that I have without the community here on tumblr. It doesn’t matter how much I like a show, I’m inherently lazy.

The Rumbelle fandom is fantastic with all the events, and the prompts, and the interaction. I never get to talk about what I love in real life because nobody shares my interests. Being enthusiastic with others, makes me more enthusiastic generally. I guess there’s also a right place, right time element. The stars align or whatever. I have to be in the right place in my life etc. I’ve only been in two fandoms, and there was a ten year gap in between them.

I jumped into the Rumbelle fandom because I don’t like to miss out on things. The first Rumbelle is Hope was happening about the time I found the fandom and well the rest is history. However, at the end of the day it still comes back to the people. I stumbled across the Rumbelle fandom on tumblr, I lurked reading a few of your blogs for a few weeks before I ever joined. I found you to be intelligent, interesting, nice people with great senses of humor. It was a community I wanted to be a part of and that’s basically it.

A little backwards perhaps, but a show becomes a fandom show for me because of the fandom, and a great big dose of right place, right time.

OTP – Jefferson

And back to Once 🙂 Heh. This has been fun! Thank you for all the asks 🙂

OTP: To be honest if it would have kept Jefferson as a character around on the show, I would have shipped him with his hat. In terms of an actual ship I’m not sure. We didn’t really see him interact with very many people. Ok this is weird because I am definitely 110% a Swanfire shipper, and I know drugging her tea/kidnapping her was a terrible beginning, but I think I would have to say Emma.

They could bond over their kids and making hard choices to give them their best chance. I think Jefferson would bring Emma out of herself a little and make her laugh, and she would bring him back to Earth when he got too flamboyant. Jefferson was wounded by his twenty-eight years in cursed!Storybrooke and Emma had her demons as well.

BrOTP: Such a fic answer but Rumple 🙂 Again they would bond over their kids, I always like reading them as friends.

OT3: Not sure but given what I said about Emma, and of course being a Swanfire shipper, I might be willing to see what Jefferson/Emma/Neal looked like.

NoTP: Regina. After what she did to him, absolutely no way.
