It’s amazing how new shiny ignites the desire to play – even the not new and shiny parts.

I have probably played too much today *cough* ok no probably about it, but I don’t do that kind of thing much anymore. I can go weeks with barely logging in, so one day every now and then is no bad thing.

Anyway, Battle for Azeroth is out and thus far I have stuck to … all of my resolutions *falls over* I know right? Basically I resolved to only play with rested XP and to go back and do some old world-based stuff because I figured in the heydey of the new expansion there would be less competition.

So before I even did anything on launch I went to the Isle of Giants to farm some bones. Surprisingly there were a few other people there but I think that was for the world boss (probably because it is reset day). I did a couple of laps of the island and netted 2k bones. The packs were only half-respawned on the second lap so I decided to call it a day. Plus I might as well see whether the Primal Egg gives me the last mount I need, or if I have to farm up another one later.

I then took my main, my Alliance Paladin to Kul Tiras and did a few quests in Drustvar before running out of rested. I then took my Horde Demon Hunter to Zandalar, did a few quests in Nazmir before again running out of rested.

It’s my habit to relate new things to things I already know. I got a few Wakanda vibes from the Zandalari Princess. I smiled at “Zandalar Forever” 🙂 though I was also reminded of Swtor. Nazmir felt a bit reminiscent of the Hutta swamps or the Drummond Kaas temples in the dark forests. On the Alliance side Drustvar is about getting House Waycrest back which brought to mind all the house politics of Alderaan.

You know one day I really should finish playing through all of Swtor’s class storylines. I have a little bit of Sith Inquisitor left and then Smuggler. Then of course there’s the expansion stories plus it was 2011 when I started with the Bounty Hunter and I’ve forgotten it /facepalm.

Verdict on BfA so far? Well I’ve barely scratched the surface. I’m still 110. However I would say the zones feel vast and the story is compelling. I like the “choose your own zone” thing which was carried over from Legion. I like the rares and treasure boxes which have become standard. I get sidetracked on quests sometimes as they pop up on the map heh.

They have currently disabled Legion Assaults, otherwise I confess I might have taken my Death Knight for a spin. She’s currently 100 and the last of my profession alts that needs to get to 110. I hope they come back soon.

Speaking of Legion Assaults, I think that’s my only reservation about BfA at the moment – alts. The Legion Assaults are super handy for levelling. I was getting about a level a time and they take half an hour. It’s a nice way to level alts, minimal time investment but still fun. I don’t know whether BfA has anything similar. Obviously I levelled all the alts through zone questing + dungeons to get to level 100, so it doesn’t matter I guess, it just would be nice.

Haha posting about Warcraft reminds me of Leverage and Hardison. “For the Horde! I was up all night. Now look, I mean, Burning Crusade was great, but this new one is mind-blowing.”

Sorry this probably only amuses me 🙂

Oh sweet merlin

I just did the Battle for Lordaeron scenarios Alliance and Horde side and

FJKDSFJKDLSFJSDLKFDS

I seriously can NOT believe they made something that epic and it’s only going to be available for a week *flails*

Maybe because I main Alliance I thought that the Alliance scenario was better, I felt like a proper hero/champion, jumping down into the fray, swinging my sword of holy light etc. The Horde side felt more like it was done as a reverse of the Alliance and wasn’t quite as good EXCEPT when it came to the cinematics.

Oh wow the cinematics.

Yikes!

Also how freaking powerful is Jaina? That was some impressive stuff. She had a big damn hero moment with that entrance that’s for sure.

I feel sorry for Baine and Lorethmar. They were going along with it but I got the feeling it’s a bit like people who agree with bullies so they don’t become the next victim. They are kinda stuck. Also, I have no clue who is heading up the Darkspear these days. I miss Vol’jin.

BfA next week whoo! 🙂

Regarding Warcraft I thought there was a super cool thing but it turned out disappointing.

On the launcher there was a “create your party wallpaper” type thing where you could pick your background, select your characters, and have them stand in heroic poses.

Problem is a) it’s limited to three, b) my rogue needs a cool transmog and c) my druid doesn’t shapeshift into kitty form and he’s a kitty so that doesn’t work.

My paladin in golden armor, because I quested alongside Turylon, popping wings and fighting demons and had to go full on iconic paladin – she would look badass if there was a pose selector. I mean no sword? Seriously not cool.

Heya sorry to bother you *waves* but you are about the only person I know these days that plays Warcraft. I’ve been trying to do everything in order as I like to follow the story, and I think I stumbled onto a later patch (and I see another one is about to drop eeek) but I totally don’t get how Illidan has returned. I’ve googled several times and I’m still confused. Sorry if it’s a stupid question and you don’t have to answer. I hope you are having a good week!

kayleiss:

Hi!  Not a stupid question at all ! :D.  Apparently Illidan never really died in Black Temple the first time.  He was weakened and imprisoned by Maeiv in the Vault of the Wardens back in Burning Crusade and he broke free for Legion.

The Black Temple thing is kind of confusing because there are people who will tell you he DID die there.  But he turned full demon so now he can only be killed in the Twisting Nether.  It is pretty confusing.  But yeah essentially his body  was imprisoned but his soul broke free or something like that.

I’m having a great week, I hope you are too! 😀

Ahhh ok that’s why I was so confused! I’d been googling about “how did Illidan come back from the dead?” and I read that he’d never really died and I scratched my head at that. Because I just got Legion I’d only very very recently done the intro quests, and the Demon Hunter intro etc. and in that I could have sworn that they’d said that Maiev had brought Illidan’s corpse to be imprisoned along with his Illidari.

So alright. It turns out google was giving me the right answer, I just didn’t understand it *roll eyes at me* but fair enough. I mean it did also say in the Demon Hunter intro about how Illidan had a special soul (like a player I guess) which could resurrect upon death. Which would make sense why Maiev would then imprison his body, to stop his soul from being able to reattach and revive. It would be like all those corpse runs where your body is on the other side of the damn wall and you can’t find a way round heh.

Thank you so much for explaining and being so patient with me 🙂 You are awesome!

Warcraft Rambles

I just got my notification that the sub has been paid for the next month and it hit me that I’d been playing again for a month. When I started I wasn’t sure if I was just visiting, or if I would continue to play. Out of interest I went and found my last blog post on the game “Why I unsubbed to Warcraft” posted April 2015 to see what I’d put and that sparked some thoughts, and I figured I’d write a blog post.

I was just going to post it on my private blog, but I figured I’d posted here, when I surrendered to nostalgia and resubbed, so I might as well cross-post and ramble a bit about how it’s gone. After all I’m still playing after a month so something must have gone right.

I just resubbed to Warcraft for a month because I’m weak. I know, I know, I kinda hate myself already. It’s just it’s been over two years since I last played and I got nostalgic.

Oh and in case anyone was wondering – this was the bribe I mentioned. I finished my RCIJ and rewarded myself. Tomorrow I’ll do the same with a mixture of fics and chores. Work first, play for an hour in the evening. Seems like a good bribe for as long as I’m enjoying it.

Anyway …

1) Where did all my buttons go? Seriously so many abilities have vanished. All my buffs, all my heals, so many of my cooldowns. I literally have 5 ability buttons – 5! I mean I have more with cooldowns but seriously this is insane. There’s no holy power! I’m stunned. I’m missing the sprint talent something fierce and it turns out muscle memory doesn’t disappear even with a two year gap. I’m trying to hit buttons that no longer exist. My hands remember the rotation. I have no idea yet what the gutting of my self-heals will have done to my soloing ability. There may be a rant incoming.

2) I started on my druid as I was nostalgic for playing cat form, and I have totally forgotten how to play which makes sense. Anyway so I died and then – corpse run. I was moaning bitterly the entire time because I’ve been playing Swtor and I can instant-res in that. Honestly having to find my corpse feels so antiquated. Oh and the fall damage in Warcraft is so much worse. I went to bound down this mountain and nearly died.

3) Seriously Swtor wins all the awards for convenience. I miss automatically knowing flight points, I miss the one click vendor all trash items, I miss Quick Travel because no cooldown and it goes everywhere. I miss the out of combat free regen ability because it makes recovery faster. It also feels like I’m moving faster on my speeder in Swtor, it feels like it takes forever to get anywhere in Warcraft. I could go on.

4) *incoherent screaming* THEY HAVE ADDED A WARDROBE SYSTEM!!! That wasn’t there when I last played and I am in love. I’m a collector at heart, and a completionist and oh dear. Same goes for all the new achievements. I have things to chase! Although it’s slightly annoying that I have to visit the transmog person to hide my head slot.

They may be more points later. I haven’t got Legion, I’m not even tempted by it as there’s more than enough game to play without it. Plus what turned me off the game last time was gearing up – it was too dependent on RNG and it was basically raid or nothing. So if I’m not max level, I just avoid the gearing treadmill completely, I can putter around playing solo and won’t get annoyed.

Plus it means I can play it like Swtor, dive in for a month every now and then, very casual, no commitments, no concerns. I can play when I feel like it and not when I don’t. Sounds reasonable to me.

It is always pretty disorienting when you don’t play for awhile and then come back, that’s for sure.  And they have pruned a lot of abilities.  It was supposed to make it simpler and I suppose it has some benefits but I liked having more buttons to click.  And yes transmog is wonderful 😀  I think that was one of the best things they’ve added.  It is pretty fun 😀

Gearing up is kind of a turn off for me too.  I do it on my main but I’m not a raider so it’ll never be as high as it could be.  I really like to level alts so that sometimes takes away the focus on my main ( draenei shaman).

I have a druid as an alt but it’s not max level and I haven’t played it in a long time.  I do remember them always being fun though 🙂

Heya *waves* I didn’t know you played. That’s really cool! Thanks for responding to my random post! 🙂

Yeah I like having buttons to click. I have a razor naga mouse with 12 buttons on the side which I bind my cooldowns to, leaving the main bar for abilities. I have videos of boss kills so I’ll never forget how it used to be. Still I don’t raid anymore so it’s just soloing. I’ll have to test when I next zone in whether my soloing is affected with the lack of self heals. I haven’t really played since I last raided at the end of Mists and I know it was probably overpowered, but it was fun. My protection paladin was unstoppable /sigh.

Heh my bank is full of transmog pieces. It’ll be nice to clear it out and have some space! In the past I had transmog addons, and I farmed for pieces and made up my own sets etc. I’ve always been a collector. Back when I was playing before I had a farming schedule to clear certain raids on as many alts as could manage it each week before reset, so I could maximize my chances at the rare mounts and pets.

I do actually have an alt of every class (aside from demon hunter as I don’t have Legion) but only my paladin is level 100. My druid is level 95. Everything else except my shaman and my mage is level 90. My mage is level 86 I think and shaman maybe 82. I started leveling them so I could max all the professions, and then I got into playing alts during Cata because Cata made it easy and fun. I could login to an alt, run a dungeon, get some valor/justice points and know I made some progress. Then every few sessions I could get a piece of gear and then get more powerful. I liked that but they did away with that a long time ago.

Can you tell I used to be a completionist? Wanting to do all the things. I don’t feel that urge anymore. I mean I still like to have goals on login but I don’t feel the need to max my chances anymore. Just do what I feel like, and if I get the achievement or the drop then yay, if not then just enjoy the act of playing. I mean like with Swtor. I login and usually do a planet per session of the class quests of whatever I’m playing (currently Sith Inquisitor). If I get bored I login out in an inn and come back to it another day. No mess, no fuss, no worries.

Sorry I didn’t mean to go on.

😀 You’re fine! 🙂

That’s pretty awesome you have a gaming mouse.  My dad has something similar and I’ve been thinking about getting one.  I’m bad with keyboard binds for whatever reason.

The cool thing about clearing raids for mounts is it is so easy to do the old ones now since we’re so above the level range.  I was going after Ashes of A’lar in Tempest Keep every week on all my higher level characters for quite awhile before it finally dropped for me.  I know there are probably cool things to drop from Legion raids right now too, but since I can’t solo it, and I don’t always have the time to go into LFR and all that, might have to wait awhile on those ;).

I have a ton of alts too.  I would say the only classes I don’t have are rogue and monk.  If you ever decide to get Legion, I definitely recommend Demon Hunter.  I love doing melee and they are one of the funnest melee classes I’ve used so far.

I used to be the exact same way, wanting to do everything.  The reason I have so many alts is because I know I’ll get too consumed on everything I technically need to do on my main in a day to keep up with everyone else.  So I usually set a couple of goals for that character first and then I move onto my others so it feels more like I’m doing  what I want to be doing :).  Enjoying the game you play is important so I’ve tried to be more relaxed about it lol.

I’ve also never played SWTOR, but I’ve heard a lot of people say great things about it!!

If you like story/roleplay then definitely check out Swtor! I play it solo just for the story, it’s so immersive I wind up creating headcanons about my characters. All the quests are voice acted so it does slow everything down in that respect and the graphics/animations for the attacks are really cool. The games not perfect but it’s definitely enjoyable. Plus you can play for free. For convenience sake I like to sub but it’s not necessary. I would definitely recommend Swtor 🙂

Haha yup I used to farm Tempest Keep every week. You have the mount? Whoop, whoop, that’s awesome. Massive congrats! That’s a very pretty mount. It hasn’t dropped for me yet. Maybe one day! 🙂 It was funny when I logged out two years ago (I thought perhaps for the last time) I sunsetted my main but I left the alts wherever they were. So I still had 3 parked outside Oynxia’s Lair from farming attempts.

Heh regarding Legion that’s another bonus to Swtor – all the expansions are included in the subscription. I’m not sure whether I’m back just for a visit, or if I might stay a while so to speak, and getting Legion is a commitment I’m not willing to make anytime soon. Besides there’s more than enough content to play for months without it should I stick around. Maybe I’ll wait until the next expansion and get my account auto-upgraded for free when Legion gets rolled into the battlechest. That’s a thought heh.

What’s your main in Warcraft? Heh, you are giving me major nostalgia feels. I quit over a year ago and I’m not at all tempted to play again, but this game was a big part of my life for some time. I miss what it was, not what it is, but heh, yeah all the nostalgia :) My main was a Human Protection Paladin, but I had an alt of .. everything haha, I was crazy about the achievements. How about you?

fire-mage-catril:

I was a draenei holy paladin, then I switched to Mistweaver monk. yeah, I’m the same, I have an alt of everything…I think I have like…3 paladins at level 90+ plus most everything else at at least 90 as well.

I quit for a long time after my guild fell apart (over a year) it just wasn’t the same after that, I was there for years, we were all freinds, it was so sad.

I’m really enjoying Legion so far, though I thought Warlords was shit (another reason I quit) but I’m still salty that they’re murdering all the important lore characters, including one of my all time faves! *sob*

edit: my current main is a blood elf demon hunter on Draenor EU (I called her Dearies, creative I know, but all variations of Rumple/Rumbelle were taken lmao)

Paladins rule! Best class in the game naturally. (just teasing, the best class is what you love the most).

I never really got on with monks that well. I liked the dps spec, oh man what was that called? But I was the worlds worst healer, I think that there wasn’t enough direct heals for me, I just couldn’t nail the style. Then for brewmaster, I don’t think there was enough self-healing for me, which coming off a Prot Pally makes sense (we self-healed like a boss. It was my mission in raids to not need any healing aside from AOE).

I quit for the first time during Mists final long patch, took about 9 months out, but I came back for Warlords, but I quit again before the first patch as I just wasn’t enjoying it. They had gutted everything I’d enjoyed the most about the game though I’m glad to hear you are enjoying Legion 🙂 I’m not one of those bitter ex-players. The game might not be what I love any longer, but I still have good memories, and I like to hear that other people are having fun.

Heh man, like I said all the nostalgia 🙂 I was such an achievement junkie, and a collector and a completionist. Basically, I wanted to do ‘all the things’ which is so very like me. I used to farm mounts/pets/legendaries every reset. I was actually raid leader for a while, never really heroic (or mythic as it is now) but we used to clear normal and get a couple of heroic bosses down.

I’m going to stop rambling now. I’m glad you are enjoying Legion! Also, I love that char name 🙂
