Well my accidental Monthly Rumbelling fic has reached 5k and is still nowhere near done. What was I saying the other day about my brain and oneshots?

Oh and as an update on the post I made the other day, about maximizing what I could get with my gift card. I did watch Trainspotting and two of the three DVD’s arrived today. The Last Enemy and The Tournament. To End All Wars is coming tomorrow apparently and I’ll rent Summer after I’ve watched some stuff and got my “to watch” pile a bit smaller.

I’m watching the first episode of The Last Enemy now and to be honest I’m wondering why I haven’t seen it before. I’m much more into sci-fi these days but back in 2008 I was all about crime thrillers. So far RC hasn’t spoken, he’s just doing a creepy following thing. He does that well heh 🙂 I will review properly when I’ve watched more!

Don’t mind me I’m just laughing at myself.

I just bought The Last Enemy, The Tournament and To End All Wars. If I’m not mistaken, then I think I’ll have accumulated £4 video credit through various offers. Summer is available to rent for 99p, and then I’ll have £3.07 of credit left. I can definitely get at least one more movie out of that, maybe two.

Best of all – this has all been free. Well I had a £10 gift card but I’ll have got basically 6 movies out of that. Not going to lie, I’m kinda pleased with myself, I like getting a good deal.

I had £2 of Amazon Video credit that was expiring today, so for an additional 49p I rented the original Trainspotting because I’ve never seen it. I’m just laughing at myself now because I never would have considered watching it, if it weren’t for a certain actor.

I guess I’m going to have to see the sequel now as well when I can heh 🙂

I considered watching them both just for RC, but tbh they don’t seem like my type of movies at all. I’ll probably be skipping them, unless someone can convince me they’re about something more than drug addicts behaving badly.

To be honest from reading the descriptions on IMDB, I think 95% of Robert Carlyle’s filmography isn’t my type of thing. When I saw the Legend of Barney Thomson, the whole way through I was going “Why am I watching this? This is so weird!” but for some reason every now and then I decide to watch one of his credits anyway. There are some things that I will never watch like 28 Weeks Later. I would have nightmares for weeks, no thank you.

Maybe it’s the anyelle fic, but I do have a few more on the list that I will somehow watch one day. I got a £10 amazon gift voucher for Christmas, which isn’t really enough to buy anything specific but there’s a fair few movies on the marketplace I might be able to snap up for cheap e.g. Plunkett and Macleane is 19p, The Tournament is 48p etc. I’ll have to check what postage does to the prices and see how I can best maximize what I can get but I’m considering it.

It’s the anyelle, seriously I’m blaming the fic 🙂

You know what, I always have this paranoia that I’m going to forget something in my review and this time I did.

It’s an all important question really – do we know yet whether Robert Carlyle will be growing out his hair or will he be keeping it short?

He’d kinda let it grow out quite shaggy before he cut it or Trainspotting, so if it grows out then it would be more early season one Rush/season one Gold length. How long does it take for hair to grow? I know mine grows fast so I can’t really use that as a guide, but then I joke all my height went into growing my hair. If we get a seventh season it could be early Rush length by then maybe, I’m not sure.

Priorities, you know 🙂

the recent set pics suggest he is growing it out again or at least letting it get longer on top

Oh cool! I haven’t seen those. I miss stuff sometimes because I’ve stopped scrolling back through what happened when I was sleeping. That’s good to know 🙂

California Solo (Review)

That is all.

No seriously, I don’t think I have any intelligent comments to make. I’m fairly certain he filmed this in between SGU and Once Upon a Time, so he’s like half Rush and half season one Gold and oh sweet merlin he’s attractive.

I mean Lachlan is a drunk which isn’t attractive, so I kinda get why his ex-wife kicked him out of bed. I’m not sure if he did his kid a favor or not by staying away, I can kinda see both sides of it. Maybe it would have made him grow up a bit if he’d stayed in contact because I think deep down he didn’t want to disappoint his daughter. Although then again, his guilt over his brothers death would possibly have made him self destruct anyway. Poor guy 🙁

Oh and I can’t believe they spent the entire film with him fighting against being deported, only to end with presumably him getting deported. I hope he apologized to his boss, he was a decent guy who only ever tried to help him and wow how expensive was that guitar? If he gave his kid $600 and that was only a few bills off the clip that was an awful lot of money.

It’s what I call a ‘slice of life’ film, it just sort of ends. I would have preferred either something coming up so he wasn’t deported, or seeing him actually going back to the UK and a little bit of the consequences of that. I would have liked more of a definitive ending anyway. This kind of movie isn’t my cup of tea at all.

So once again I don’t recommend this as a movie, but I do seriously recommend it for fans of Robert Carlyle. Excuse me while I go find all the Lachlan gifsets on tumblr and add them to my queue. Oh and I make no apologies for the gifspam at the start of my post, I think it makes my point most eloquently.

Marilyn Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing and Charm School (Review)

I just watched this and I have some thoughts to share:

1) The casting of Foggy as a kid blew my mind. I kept thinking to myself – that smile is familiar but I’d seen him as a grownup in the bakery so I figured it was a kid brother/son or something. The whole ‘old footage’ thing was weird and cool but mostly weird, especially as adult him was a whole different character.

2) The sex in the bakery couldn’t have been hygienic. Feel free to laugh at me but that was my … second thought on watching that scene.

3) The second half was much smoother than the first half, the first half was kinda like a crack film and I was thinking “man I watch some weird stuff for Robert Carlyle” but it did get better and make more sense.

4) Frank Keane’s smile is adorable and I wanted to hug him when he looked sad or was crying. It reminded of that recent tumblr post that was going round about when Robert Carlyle cries, we all cry.

5) I liked how the whole grief group wound up going to the dance class.

6) The whole Lisa thing was sad. What if that guy had made it? He’d been holding onto that promise for 40 years and then bam, that’s some disappointment.

7) The trailers before the movie on the DVD were epic long. I have never heard of such long trailers ever.

As movies go I wouldn’t recommend it on it’s own merits but then it’s not my genre at all. For fans of Robert Carlyle though, yeah I’d recommend it on that basis 🙂 I’m watching California Solo tomorrow so I’ll see how that compares!

Watching The World is Not Enough because I last saw it pre-Once/SGU and didn’t have an appreciation for Robert Carlyle.

Got to be honest, in my opinion not his best look. I miss the floof. I prefer his new Begbie look to this, that at least isn’t completely shaved. His accent isn’t right either though it comes through sometimes.

Plus it took nearly 47 minutes for him to appear on screen. However, it’s a film I already have which makes watching it now effectively free.

Thinking about the future

For the first time today I actually properly contemplated Once Upon a Time ending. I know all things come to an end eventually but I’d not really thought about it much until now.

You want to know what my immediate thought was?

It wasn’t “I hope they wrap things up and don’t leave a cliffhanger.” and it wasn’t “I hope there’s a happy ending for my fave characters” either. Nope.

My immediate thought was “what will Robert Carlyle’s next project be?” so I can watch him in that. I then wondered if he would take some time off, go back to movies, do more directing. I mean there’s season six of Once first but what next?

I hope it’s a character like Rush or Rumple/Gold to be honest. His recent movie (The Legend of Barney Thomson) was a bit weird for me. So I can’t guarantee I would watch whatever it was if I didn’t like it.

This is my random thought for the day I guess. I think it says something about him as an actor that I can watch him in other stuff and not snigger and mutter one characters name to myself.

Like I’ve been watching House lately and I actually saw that years before Once but I quit early on and Jennifer Morrison was a brunette at the beginning, well in season five she’s blonde and I see her on the screen and “Emma Swan!” breaking into a patients apartment (all in the tumblers), giving medicine (I can spell spell) you get the picture.

Usually whatever I see an actor in first gets imprinted. Very few successfully manage to be multiple chars for me. Robert Downey Jr has done it (Sherlock and Iron Man) and Robert Carlyle obviously but not many others.

Two more days until I can watch Last Rites. To be honest at this point I’m more worried I won’t finish my fanfic on time for the 15th. I kinda seen all the spoilers possible (yeah my self control failed).
