I’m not going to tag this as anything because I don’t like drama but I was thinking about Agents of Shield recently (who am I kidding? I think about it a lot!) and I’m not totally up to date because UK channel 5 are annoying but I have an idea of what’s coming. #NoSpoilers because I don’t like them, I did try and avoid them but that’s next to impossible on tumblr heh.

Under the cut because I’m a coward. I just want to get this off my chest basically. I mean I don’t think anyone follows me for Agents of Shield so it’s likely nobody will even read this, but writing it down makes me feel better so /shrug. Just my two cents folks.

Wait…Agents of Shield came back? When?!

That’s kinda the point hehe – it hasn’t, not in the UK at least.

Unless you meant in the US in which case it was December 1st. It wasn’t supposed to be until January but I did read (no clue if it’s true) that because the Inhumans bombed they brought AoS back early to try and make up for it.

Still procrastinating *slaps self* but I had a random thought earlier about Agents of Shield. Shows have ‘canon’ ships right, and you know how with most shows there’s a canon ship that is just ugh not cool? I’m speaking on how an individual person feels, I mean obviously there’s a ship for everyone. I’m saying I think most shows have a NOtp, or it’s not as severe as that but you still don’t ship them, when it comes to canon pairings.

Ok that was a convoluted sentence, hope that made sense. I mean thinking of Once Upon a Time there’s several ‘canon’ ships, and I like some, don’t like others. With Agents of Shield I’m trying to think of a canon ship that I disliked. At the end of season four (I have just the finale left to watch) there’s Fitzsimmons, Coulson/May and Mack/Yo-Yo and I ship them all to different degrees. Earlier in the show there were others. I suppose I wasn’t tremendously keen on May/Ward but that was short-lived, without feelings, and pretty much driven by my belief that May deserved better. Plus it made sense for the characters, it was like necessary development, so I was fine with it.

So yeah my random thought was that on a show with ships, it feels rare to like everything. I think I put that down to how well done the ships are on Agents of Shield. The development is slow, it’s consistent with the characters, each character still very much remains their own person, and it just makes sense. It’s hard to argue with things that make sense.

I think Daisy/Lincoln was that ship (it was for me and I never saw much enthusiasm for it, but I could have missed it) but I agree on your basic point that AoS ships are generally really well written. And they are also each pretty distinctive, even when using the same tropes. For example, you could classify both Fitzsimmons and Philinda (F.I.N.A.L.L.Y.) as slow-burn ships in which long-time best friends realize they’re in love, but I think the dynamics of each are different.

I’m only on the edge of the AoS fandom so I don’t really know what’s popular and what isn’t. I didn’t ship Daisy/Lincoln but I didn’t hate it either, well no more than I dislike anything to do with Skye/Daisy in the earlier seasons. She’s always been my least favorite character but that’s a whole other post probably. I could see why Daisy/Lincoln made sense though, even if I didn’t particularly care for it.

Anyway, I agree with you 100% about the ships being distinctive and perhaps I’m such a sucker for them because I love friends to lovers. Heh I admire you for using Coulson/May’s ship name, I can’t spell it for the life of me 🙂

I love lots of other shows but hands down the best show on TV right now – well once it comes back from the summer hiatus – is Agents of Shield.

Why is it so brilliant?
1) It doesn’t take itself too seriously. The jokes and lines are amazing, I laugh every time I watch it. It is pure entertainment.
2) The character development is incredible and it’s consistent. Things happen and there are consequences. Most TV is so episodic these days, quality storytelling is rare.
3) Hand in hand with the character development, is how they’ve developed the show ‘ships’. Fitzsimmons have fully done best friends to lovers and I swear all the other characters on the show ship them (I certainly do), the lines are swoonworthy. Coulson and May aren’t together yet but they are heading there. I never thought I would ever think they could be more than friends but they’ve developed it so gradually and naturally it just makes sense.
4) Every time I watch this show I love it more. Usually that doesn’t happen, usually the first season is the best – not true here. The first season started off a bit slow (but still great) and it has gone from strength to strength since.

I know there are four seasons already out there BUT there’s also a six month hiatus before season five, so catching up isn’t impossible. Ok that’s my pitch 🙂

Channel 4 is showing Agents of Shield Season Four weekly, so I’m behind. The US has finished and I have five episodes left and I can’t wait to watch them! Now half the reason is just because urk I really want to watch them! The other half of the reason is probably a little weird.

I am desperate to do a rewatch. I want to start from season one and watch the entire show again. I have a mighty need but I don’t want to go back to the start, until I’ve finished the end. It’s like a weird rule I have. No rewatching if I’m mid-season of a show.

Five more weeks unless C4 mess us around. Five more weeks and I can go back to the start and then enjoy the show all over again.

AGENTS OF SHIELD HAS BEEN RENEWED!!!!!!

I am so damn happy about that. I’ve been googling literally every single day waiting for an announcement. This show is so damn good I want 10 seasons, but a fifth is a good start haha 🙂

My day has been made! Of course it’s now even more likely that I’m going to wind up writing fic at some point but sorry not sorry, ugh I love this show so much.
