You know I woke up this morning and realised that Friday is an all day thing. Today, it’s Friday – all day.

So *stares down at deadline* while I hate doing things last minute/day they are due, let’s see if I can pull the rabbit out of the hat and still do this thing!

Ok here’s a thing.

I’ve been pretty good this week (by my standards anyway) in terms of getting shit done. At the weekend I knocked off my to-do-list some stuff that had been there since before last christmas. On Monday I had class, and then that afternoon did the prep work for the class next Monday. Tuesday I did 2/3rds of the work for a formative essay due in end of next week. Wednesday was a bit of a wash as I had meetings and then today …

oh today

Today is Thursday and so it’s the end of the week (in terms of classes as I’m super fortunate this semester and don’t have anything scheduled on Friday) and I’m knackered.

Like it’s 5:15pm and I wish it was bedtime. I am so done with today. I have had enough of today-ing.

My problem is that at no point in my blitz of kinda-productivity this week did I finish that bloody Celeb/Fan AU I swore I would do for tomorrow. Don’t get me wrong I love that fic and I love Garcy and I want to write the thing. I am just really terrible at time management. The week has gone and yes ^^ I did things but I didn’t do enough things – clearly – as there is still more to do, and things left undone. Maybe I ordered the tasks wrong.

I don’t know whether to be pleased or mad at myself, and quite frankly I don’t have the energy for either. I think I’ll settle for disappointed and resolve to try harder in future 🙁

I have no idea what to do for @rumbellebigbang. Every idea I come up with either gets done by someone else, or is not something I’m ready to tackle right now.

I’ve been reading a book called ‘The Writer’s Mindset’ which is about all the Ahhhhh #writing is hard things that drive us insane.

There is a chapter called ‘My writing isn’t original’ which begins with the line “Every story has been written before.” And the antidote it offers to this worry is this

“YOUR thoughts have not been written before, and YOUR story has not been told before. YOU are the original aspect of creativity, and what you bring to the world will be different to what others bring, even on the same topic.”

It says that just because stories have similar aspects they are not the same. That this means “they will satisfy readers of this type of story” and that authors all bring their own original spin.

So TLDR it doesn’t matter if other people have done it, you will do it your way.

Fanfic Friday (on a Sunday)

Thanks to Worry if I don’t have fic to post I’ll be regaling you all with a diary/status update type thing instead. I know it’s not Friday but I didn’t post anything (of any kind) on Friday and I’m too stoked to wait an entire week #sorrynotsorry

Right so status report!

I’m about halfway through the Celeb/Fan AU for Garcy (Timeless) that Ripper prompted. Yes it’s true I have been at this point for a while *cough* BUT I am extra special super determined that this will be the week! So Friday 12th it will be hitting screens.

The reason why I’m feeling sorta confident is I’ve done a lot of scheduling. Only time will tell (obviously) whether I stick to it but I have tried to be realistic for a change. Which is why the next posting day isn’t until November 2nd. That fic will be the third instalment in the In Your Arms verse, which yes I was supposed to write back in August but *cough* just going to gloss over that.

I have also picked what I will be writing during November. The largest chunk of words will be going on an original project but I also hope to complete Painting Layers of Love Chapter 11 (finally!), Untitled Rumbelle fic, Untitled post-season 2 Garcy and Untitled “Shh they will hear us” Garcy prompt for Ripper.

Which means that between now and November 1st I need to plan and prepare all of the above.

/End Status Report

#on a Sunday this week because I just wanted to ramble#sorry not sorry

@jackabelle73 thanks *hugs*

@urban-trek-thru-middle-earth I wish I could chop it but it would be like chapter-size and while I could try and avoid out-and-out cliffhangers, it still wouldn’t be finished to any level. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it 🙂

@worryinglyinnocent has given me an awesome idea, like a middle-ground. If I can’t post fic, I can post status updates. That will be something, like a check-in. Admitting publicly that I have done nothing is hopefully incentive to ensure I do something heh.

I have detected a flaw in my plan for Fanfic Fridays (aside from the fact that it’s been like a month and I still haven’t done it because I’ve forgotten how to word).

The idea behind Fanfic Fridays was to give me a deadline. My theory was that if I had to post every week, then it would be a nudge to actually write a thing. BUT I don’t want anymore posted WIP’s (I have one that I feel very guilty about) and so I don’t really want to post anything that is unfinished AND 95% of my ideas are stupid long.

It’s like Catch 22. The regular deadline makes sense except for the ideas being too long and not wanting to post unfinished stuff.

I don’t know what to do *flails*

Seriously.

Answers on a postcard? I feel very dammed if I do, dammed if I don’t right now. Could use some help or advice if anyone has any.

So I just had my first creative writing seminar at uni. We spent most of the two hours reading the module outline out loud ??? (I know I’m terrible but I have never seen the point in reading things like that out loud in class. I can read myself).

Anyway the one bit of writing we did was what they called “automatic writing” where without stopping, censoring, correcting etc. we had to write about someone we knew well and precisely describe what they were likely doing at that moment.

I learnt two things

1) it’s really easy to get off the point when I am basically just free typing

2) my typing speed was 1154 words in 15 mins. That is how fast I can type – crucially though it is NOT how fast I can write as stream of consciousness isn’t writing.

I hope we actually get to do something fiction/creative related next week. It was the first ever session so it was bound to a bit slow.

WTF is a module and sounds like maybe you need a new uni… Why would you do a read aloud? What? (she says snarkily without too much sincerity)

Also, I have tried many creative writing classes and some of them have been… not what I’ve hoped for, while others have been grand.

So maybe there’s not need to fire the uni, but don’t give up hope if one writing class doesn’t meet with your expectations. LOL.

Heh keep the snark coming 🙂

I am 100% in the “why would you do a read-aloud?” Camp. I understand reading a poem, that is important as it needs to be felt as much as read. I understand acting out a play to bring the lines to life. I do not understand reading an admin document out loud.

Not giving up though 🙂 I just paid them an ungodly amount of money for the year.

A module is how they split the classes. There are 3 modules a semester, and two semesters in a year so study a total of 6. The modules divide out separate areas of study. I have one on close-critical reading, another on analysing literature in its historical context and then the creative writing one.

Ant-Man And The Wasp has now set a US home release date of 2nd October on digital, with DVD/Blu-ray and 4K UHD versions arriving on 16th October.

Unfortunately, it appears that a certain World Cup-avoiding cinema release here in the UK has come in for the double punch… the UK won’t see a physical release until

3rd December

With digital copies likely to be available about a fortnight before that. Sorry to bring you this bad news.

2 months?!?! 2 months are you kidding me?

Ok but 2019 is going to reset things right? We’re not going to be months behind for Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 right?

#once again I was wondering why there was an avalanche of gifs

You know how some people have names that are just too accurate/appropriate for their job. It’s like they must have been pre-destined or something.

Although it must get a bit old for them as I bet everyone ribs them about it.

Anyway the guy who runs the school office for Literature, his name is *drum roll* Shakespeare. No I am not kidding.

It’s weird, like Shakespeare is so synonymous with well Shakespeare that I kinda forgot it was a real name. It is so larger than life.

This coincidence completely dwarfs the 6ft 10 (or something really tall) physics teacher I had at high school called Mr Rocket.
