So there’s a new character (lady with curly hair).

Love that Number One did the voiceover. Think it’s somewhat hilarious that she’s back with zero nod to the fact that she ended the finale being taken off figuratively in cuffs. Feels like she could be back with nothing more than a “good to have you back sentence” and honestly I am ok with that. She’s my favourite character so it would have sucked to have had her off screen for any episodes.

Love that Ortegas got to do some fancy flying. Hope they get more to do in season 2. They are almost my fave (very close second).

Spock did make me laugh out loud with his “I want the ship to go now” comment 😂

I’ve felt so awful last few days I needed some comfort. Wound up rewatching the entirety of SNW. Honestly only having 10 episodes made that too easy.

I watched episode 9 the other night and yowzer that was a bit horror movie-esque. I wasn’t really prepared for that! Those CGI monsters were actually genuinely scary.

The show is so damn pretty. Like that snow world is gorgeous and so visuals are just top notch aaaaaand then they turn that onto monsters and just ahhhhhh.

Need more Ortegas. I say that every time but it’s true.

Crying forever about Hemmer. The way he said he had to go outside now like that historical quote from that polar expedition 😭

I hope season 2 comes around as I don’t think I can eke this out much longer lol. Just one episode left.

OMG I am finally watching the Elysian Kingdom. I have been looking forward to it ever since I heard about it when it first aired. Today I won NaNo so I was like “I’m going to reward myself with that”

I figured I would enjoy but I didn’t know I would enjoy it this much. It is so much fun and I don’t usually think about this so much as I prefer suspension of disbelief, but the actors are chewing the scenery so well it looks like they are having a lot of fun. I like that! It has such positive vibes 🥰

Oh wow I am watching episode 7 the serene squall.

Loved Pike and Una’s banter. Loved Pike cooking. Loved Ortegas dry humour. Loved the mutiny play.

Did NOT love the Spock and Chapel kiss. I literally was watching through my fingers going “ok can stop now” “stop” “why isn’t it over?” as boy that lasted waaaaay too long.

Also enough with all the Spock storylines. Like other characters exist. I mean I get it. Spock is the most familiar as TOS, all the movies, the reboot movies etc. but that IMO means focus at the start as like a familiar ‘bridge’ and then fade to background so the new chars get a chance. Just focusing on the old helps nobody long term.

Aaaaaah excuse me while I scream as a Librarians fan. Cassandra just turned up 😍

My only other thought is “damn this show is pretty” on repeat.

Watching the fifth episode ON MY BRAND NEW TV!!! The picture is incredible 🤩 I tried to take a photo but the photo didn’t do it justice. I do keep turning it down as I am worried it’s too loud and I don’t want to be an inconsiderate neighbour. I am having to AirPlay it as for some reason (mind boggles) the Paramount+ app is only available for LG in the US. Hopefully they will fix that soon.

Anyway episode! This focus on Spock is a bit boring but I kinda expected it from an episode with the name “Spock” in it 😛

Why does Ortegas get so little screentime? I want more Number One too but I guess she had a focus episode :/ Ortegas hasn’t even had that.

Ok maybe I take that back about Number One as there is now hijinks with La’an.

OMG this is so pretty by the lake 😍 and wow it is so pretty at the negotiation table place. Ok maybe I just think everything is stunning idk. I wonder what my video games will look like 🤔 damn that ship deck is beautiful.

Pike was honest and I love that and yes it was a manipulation kinda but it was honest. They chose what to do with it. That’s why he is the best of StarFleet as if they had walked away he’s have taken the hit and let them.

So I just watched the 4th episode (I know I’m slow) and it’s funny because I watched some of Prodigy recently and apparently ships being able to withstand black holes is a thing.

Not enough Number One, not enough Ortegas. I liked Uhura and Hemmer’s interaction, the way they held hands. Chapel continues to be a scene stealer and M’Benga likes to tug on my heart. The way he was giving his own plasma.

Pike’s faith was very Pike. I wish they had shown a close-up of the pins they all wore. I read somewhere that Spock and Pike’s were for Discovery but that would have been nice to have seen for myself. I wonder if his miracle move was indeed called the Pike Manoeuvre.

I still haven’t ‘bonded’ so to speak with La’an, so I do find myself wishing there had been more crew scenes. Like when that bridge officer? (I think he’s bridge, do we know his name?) he was helping some guy in a blue shirt, and then the blue shirt shoved him through the airlock before it closed and then got sucked into space. Like I had more of an emotional reaction to that than anything from La’an tbh. So more of that kind of thing would have given the episode more weight IMO. Like what happened to the people they saved? They were there for the first 5 minutes and then vanished. How many died in the attack? How many were still on the ship when it blew? Did any survive?

I know they say “give it a face” as if we can see it in one person, and then know it’s in everyone, that is more effective than trying to show general devastation/pain etc. But I don’t think La’an is a very good ‘face’ so to speak for that.

Anyway currently resisting looking the gorn up on the Trek wiki as curious.
