Ok Picard 3.02
My heart is still pounding to be honest.
Spoilers spoilers, many spoilers, all the warnings.
Continue readingOk ok ok
Picard episode one.
Let’s see if I can be coherent.
Obviously spoilers. Spoiler alert. All the spoilers.
Right ok first breathe. That was a lot.
Continue readingFinale thinky thoughts! As in I like to make it make sense.
I think they went back to their original bodies, not the confederation ones. They were in the same clothes as episode 1. They hadn’t just been transported.
Rios wasn’t there either. But Q cosmic power, handwaving. I mean technically the Stargazer blew up so he rewound time as well. So being like “you back in your original bodies” oh and due to time travel “you two aren’t there” is just Q being Q
To be honest I think the only reason Seven got re-borgified is so casual fans wouldn’t then be confused how she was XB again after Q clicked his fingers. It wasn’t actually a necessary thing for Seven to be an XB in the main timeline
what still bother me the most in picard s1 is the way picard asked for help… especially from raffi and elnor
[warning: hardcore picard/st fans who accept no criticism please don’t come after me, im just stating my opinion here without tagging, thank you]
I agree with you completely.
Full disclosure I have seen all the TNG movies + the first two seasons. I am working on the rest but you know time.
However I don’t think the lack of having seen Picard in action prior changes a damn thing when it comes to how entitled Picard acted in season 1. Raffi and Elnor were new characters but they were shown to have had a prior bond with Picard. Elnor saw him as a kinda father figure/hero/the person that saved him and was trying to save the rest of his people. Raffi had served with Picard as his XO I think. They had a different dynamic than Picard had with Riker but they had worked closely together for some time and were clearly close as Raffi called him JL.
Then the Romulan/Mars mess happened and Picard dropped them both. He was dealing with his own crap and 14 years happened. Ok understandable but how he treated them during Picard season 1 was inexcusable. He just assumed they would do what he wanted. He manipulated them emotionally using guilt and disappointment, as well as hitting triggers for them. There was no apology really. Just entitlement. He presumed he had a right to demand from them even though he gave up any right to ask them for anything when he dropped them both. Just his general attitude was appalling.
I found it terrible that Picard “didn’t want to call on Riker and the TNG crowd” because they would help him out of loyalty. Instead he went to Raffi who “had nothing left to lose” – talk about taking advantage of the vulnerable.
I wasn’t happy with Picard when I watched the first time but on the rewatch I did last week I got angry. I felt so bad for Raffi and Elnor and how he played them.
Ok rewatching 2.02 the confederation and taking notes.
First I had said that Raffi’s line later (which I still laugh at everytime re: Picard and transplants “all of them”) was a continuity error as they were in the confederation bodies not their own. But Q in an off the cuff remark says Picard does have a synth body due to battle damage. I hadn’t fully clocked that first time through.
Second (and far more importantly 😉) Seven is in distress, confused, having woken up without her implants in this strange place. She hears the door and says “Raffi?” And the response
“Raffi is on her way”
I totally missed that the first time. Mind = blown.
Oh. insert lots of swearing
It’s “coffee” is coming 😭 I thought he said “Raffi is coming I assure you”
Ok sad face. I really did think he said Raffi /sigh but I guess Seven said Raffi and he misheard and thought she said coffee. Bugger.
I haven’t seen season 1 since it aired so I thought I would skip watch it. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before but I don’t have 8 hours or however long the season is to spare at the moment.
Anyway I got to the bit where that guy says “call Riker, call Worf” etc. and Picard says “no they would do it out of loyalty to me” and the guy says “so you need someone who hates you and who has nothing to lose” and Picard says “I already made the call”
And I’m just like Raffi? You are talking about Raffi! 1) how could you ever mistake her for anything but loyal underneath all the layers of pain? 2) even if it was a case of “nothing left to lose” why would a ‘good guy’ take advantage of that?
He clearly knew just what to say to push her buttons too :/ to manipulate her into doing what he wanted.
I find it interesting that Raffi gave Rios the money for La Sirena. I wonder if that was more of her self hatred. 🤔 I mean she describes her home as a “hovel” and talks about Picard living large with heirloom furniture at the chateau. If she could have afforded something better but gave Rios the money instead, maybe that’s because she felt she didn’t deserve anything better.
How could anyone not appreciate Raffi? I didn’t know Seven was showing up in season 1 of Picard but Raffi was there and I was like “yup my fave I am sorted, I love her, give me all the Raffi story” and then Seven showed up so Raffi had to share fave status a bit haha, but still Raffi, too awesome.
And omg her outfit this season with those finger less gloves 🤩 I just loved how badass she looked (and was!)
Doing fan stuff is an act of love and enthusiasm. How can anyone make fun of that? If anyone does that says everything about them, and nothing about you.
Seven got tipsy off a single glass on Voyager but maybe it’s how she didn’t drink coffee on Voyager and does now. She picked up a lot of human vices as a defence mechanism maybe?
Maybe going fuzzy is something she wants because being sober is too painful?
