Do you think we’ll see even more people (try to) steal the Dark One’s dagger in the new season?

I hope not!

I do need to admit to a bias before I answer really. I have issues with the dagger. I mean actually that’s not true. I have issues with how casually it is treated on the show. People take it and use it against Rumple and seem to think it’s nothing. The dagger forces him to do as commanded, he loses all free will. Now you know what a big fan of Regina I am, and as a redeemed villain and fellow magic-user she’s the best example to use for comparison.

Nobody has ever tried to put some kind of control device on Regina. Even when she was at her worst, nobody tried to strip her of her free will. Whereas people treat the dagger so casually, I wonder sometimes if they’d use it on Rumple to get out of a parking fine or something else equally minor. I know I’m being ridiculous with that statement but the way using the dagger has been portrayed in the show, it’s been like using it has no consequences.

Anyway, I could rant about this for ages, so I’m going to shift gears slightly. Rumple didn’t lose the dagger for almost the entire time he was the Dark One. Then especially come season 5/season 6 it was like he was losing it practically every other episode (I know that’s an exaggeration but my point stands). Rumple knows what the dagger can do, he’s not a careless man by nature, so why has it been so easy for people to steal the dagger?

In my opinion the dagger has become something of a ā€œget out of jail free cardā€ for the writers. They need Rumple to do something, or to not get in someone’s way etc. and rather than think of a legitimate reason, they just have somebody take his dagger so that he does whatever is necessary.

So yeah I loathe the dagger for multiple reasons. I hate it for stripping away Rumple’s free will. I hate that there are never any consequences for that. I mean I know it probably contributed to Rumple’s mental state in season 6 as he was in a terrible place, but I’m not just talking about consequences for Rumple, but consequences for the people that use the dagger. If ā€œall magic comes with a priceā€ surely controlling the Dark One and using his magic should come with a price? Plus controlling another human being shouldn’t be something that is done so casually, it’s fundamentally wrong. Shouldn’t any of the main characters have at least some conscience pangs about it?

Sorry I’m going on again. Basically I would be happy if the dagger never came up again. Say Rumple has it locked up in a safe place if they must and then leave it at that. They don’t ever show consequences for using it, and I’m sick of them using it as a way to stop Rumple from getting in the way. My greatest wish for season seven is that they stop finding ways to bring Rumple down, if the villain is an evil like we’ve never seen, then let them be powerful enough that Rumple can go full power on them. Let’s see every inch of the power he commands, not just magically but tactically.

However while I hope the dagger won’t be a factor, I rather suspect that it will be. It’s far easier for them to hobble Rumple, and they like him to be on the villains side and as Rumple is redeemed and looking out for his family, how else are they going to get him to be all evil? They’ll have to have him commanded. That’s my pessimism talking though. *cross fingers* I’m wrong on this score and my hopes come true and the dagger is ignored.

@rumbelleluv I just read your tags on that gifset about why the portal looks different? A ring of fire rather than a green swirl that destroys the road. I have a theory about that!

Henry isn’t going to a realm within our reality – he’s going to another realm where the same stories play out differently. So the portal looks different because he’s not just travelling to another realm, he’s crossing reality.

Why do I think this? Well the portal reminded me of a Doctor Strange portal (also seen used by Ghost Rider in Agents of Shield) which crosses dimensions. Disney has the rights to Marvel which is why we’ve had the comic books shown on the show, they are never going to have the Avengers show up but that could be a nice little nod. Hello reality portal.

Also this ties into my theory as to how Henry got to be 28 but Regina and Hook haven’t aged – time isn’t consistent between realities. I mean that kinda makes sense with time being relative because of the storybook thing anyway. I mean the versions they’ve used on the show were ā€œwritten down by the author Walt Disneyā€ long before the events technically happened.

I mean the first Dark Curse created Storybrooke in 1983. Walt Disney died (and Isaac was recruited) in 1966. So if the Enchanted Forest and the Land Without Magic had time operating concurrently, that wouldn’t be possible. I mean the tale of Snow White was written long before Snow was actually born.

I know time was acting concurrently once the curse happened but maybe that’s why it was such a dark curse. It connected the realms in a way that wasn’t usual. Perhaps that’s why Isaac never aged from 1966 to present day, but Henry has got older while he’s been gone.

Just a couple of thoughts šŸ™‚

TMI Tuesday — now that we’re in the middle of hiatus, what are your feelings about s6 as a whole? What do you think about the big changes teased for s7?

I am so, so, so sorry that this has been sitting in my inbox for so long! I didn’t have time to reply when you sent it because I wanted to give a thoughtful response and to be honest it’s been non-stop ever since. Thank you so much for sending this question in! You’ve sent me questions like this before and I love questions like this šŸ™‚ You are the best!

I’m going to put the answers under the cut because I’ve gone on a bit. Given you asked about season 7 there are spoilers under the cut.

We have guests so the radio was on earlier – it never usually is I’m married to iTunes or Spotify heh – and I suddenly tuned in to the song that was playing.

Only You – all my SwanFire feels!

I love random happenings which spark good thoughts like that šŸ™‚ I started humming along and thinking about these two dorks and the AU’s someone was talking about yesterday with baby brother Gideon. All the feels heh šŸ™‚

So I’m doing research for an up coming story, and I’ve been messing around in google translate. Ā Apparently the word for fairy in Scottish Gaelic isĀ sƬthiche. Ā Blue why you so shady?!

She’s the Sith Lord we’ve been searching for!

I have season seven feels from that gifset I just reblogged. I’ve reblogged that gifset so many times because I think it’s the only scene in the show that has Regina, Rumple and Henry that isn’t just a group thing.

All I want from season seven is Grandpastiltskin, and Regina going into protective mother mode. I want them protecting Henry because even if he’s grown-up, he’ll always be Regina’s kid and Bae’s son. Maybe we could see that struggle actually of ā€œI suppose I have to accept you are all grown upā€ and then working together to protect their extended family.

If I don’t get it then I will have to fic it because I want this so much.

YES! Dear god I want Rumple and Regina fighting for their family because whoa that’s powerful after so many years of them being opposed to each other. But I feel like any reasonable villain would really not want that because honestly… the Evil Queen and the Dark One fighting against you? What’s that gonna last like 5 minutes?

Well … yeah. I’ve always likened Rumple to Professor X to be honest. He’s so powerful, and so skilled (I mean he schemed for the dark curse – that guy can plan) that they have to take him out of the game or a half season fight against a villain, would be over in episode one. Just like Prof X was in a coma in the first movie, brainwashed in the second, dead in the third etc. They always sidetrack Rumple so that he doesn’t just take care of business.

It’s kinda the same with teaming up with Regina. Two powerful, angry, highly-motivated magic-users? They would tear through the bad guys like tissue paper and have their family back in no time. Yeah all the villains we’ve seen so far wouldn’t stand a chance. However, maybe if in season seven there is the biggest bad ever, then perhaps Rumple and Regina wouldn’t have to be brought down to the villains level (depowered or rendered useless) and instead they can fight with everything they have because the villain is on their level.

I can dream šŸ™‚

I’m putting my music collection back onto my new computer and I’m currently listening to Carrie Underwood, and it reminded me of this post I made a couple of years back, basically a ā€˜If OUAT had a musical episode’ thing, with Ruby frantically trying to make Emma see sense about the whole C$ debacle.

Two years later and I am listening to Good Girl again and thinking exactly the same thing, and thinking that since we have had a musical episode… Damn, the wasted potential. I can seriously see this number so clearly in my mind…

Does anyone else have songs they’d put in a musical episode?

You’re making me want to do a Once Upon a Time playlist again. I made up several playlists, and did album cover art and stuff for my first fandom. I actually used to do a lot of fan stuff, I just write fic now but I digress. I have a couple of contributions!

For happier Rumbelle times I nominate So Far Gone by Thousand Foot Krutch

I know they say that the space between
Can make it stronger than we’ve ever seen
They might be right but I disagree
Cause I’ve never felt stronger than when you’re with me

Sometimes I wonder why you even care
Cause even when I leave you’re always there with me
And like a candle makes a brighter place
This mark you’ve made on me can’t be erased.

For angsty Rumbelle times I nominate What Have You Done by Plan Three

All the stories are over
Chapters are done
All this chaos around me
Always Alone

Oh and one for Regina I nominate Reflection by Christina Auguilera

Look at me
You may think you see
Who I really am
But you’ll never know me
Every day
It’s as if I play a part
Now I see
If I wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart

TMI Tuesday — How do you feel about the new direction for s7? What are your hopes for s7?

Oooooh what a fantastic question! Thank you so much! šŸ™‚

I’m of the opinion basically that it’s very early days. We know a tiny bit but just enough to tantalize, to tease, and there are still so many questions. If there’s a new curse, when was it enacted? What happened to *insert character name here*? Who’s Lucy’s mom? Where is this new curse taking place? Who cast it? Why did they cast it? Like I said so many questions.

I think this is a good point to insert the Moby song ā€œI’m not worried at allā€ because I’m really not. We got our happy beginning and nothing thus far that we know threatens that. It’s all a big mystery and we know Belle loves mysteries šŸ™‚ so I’m going to take my cue from her and just enjoy it.

Way back when the fate of season seven was still in the balance, there was so much talk about who might be leaving. I think there was rumors about every single cast member at one point or another. I kept quiet because I’m scared of conflict but I did think personally about what a ā€˜perfect season seven’ might look like. Basically, I knew that if either Regina or Rumple was in season seven, then I would be watching no matter what.

Now I’m not getting my perfect season seven because Belle isn’t a regular. She might still be a recurring guest star (as I said I’m not worried at all) but two out of three isn’t bad. My two favorite characters are in season seven, with what potentially could be a much smaller cast. That hopefully translates to more screentime, but even if it doesn’t I’m still happy because I get to watch my favorite characters for another twenty or so episodes.

Honestly a Regina and Rumple led season seven does sound pretty damn amazing to me. So I’m loving the direction for season seven. Focusing on Henry, hopefully means more Regina being an awesome mom (and grandmother now) even if it’s not playing opposite Jared anymore. So that ticks another big box on my ā€˜favorite parts of Once’ list.

I think season seven has the potential to the best season in a while. Yes I could be going mad with hope and then it’ll be a disappointment, but I prefer to be positive and think about the good. If nothing else I get to watch the show for another year. Once has it’s faults but it’s stunning visually, it has fantastic actors and so much potential. Even if that potential only gets fully explored through headcanon and fanfic – the show still gave us the seeds for that.

My hopes for season seven are pretty standard probably. I want:

– Regina and Rumple to be working together. I’ve always wanted this – think Neverland for frenemy snark.

– Family moments with Regina and Henry, Rumple and Henry, Regina and Lucy, Rumple and Lucy. Regina is Henry’s mom, and Rumple is Henry’s grandfather. I want those relationships to be the focus, along with Henry’s relationship with his daughter. This is a show about family.

– No Rumple being evil and everyone hating him. They are all reformed villains, they don’t have to be pure heroes, he can let Regina in on his sneaky plans.

– Regina and Rumple being protective of their family, doing magic, being badass and taking care of business. Henry will be the hero I’m sure but I want him to be flanked by two magic-users who aren’t taking any prisoners, and will do whatever is necessary to keep him (and Lucy) safe and to reunite with the rest of their family.

– For Belle, Gideon, Emma, Snow, David, Zelena, baby!Robyn, baby!Neal etc. to all be mentioned sometimes. They might not be physically there on screen (and that’s ok) but I don’t want them to be forgotten. They are important to Rumple, Regina and Henry. I would be so happy if they brought it up like this ā€œhow did you know what to do?ā€ ā€œoh Emma taught me.ā€ or ā€œwhat made you think of that?ā€ ā€œsomething similar once happened to Belle and Iā€ you know just little asides like that.

– An explanation of what happened to the rest of the family, which is temporary and hopefully not too sad.

– A reunion with the family at the end of the season, with the happy beginnings (or middles as it might be then) restored.

– For the ratings to be decent enough that we get a season eight (I can dream) even though it’s on Friday night and statistically that’s bad. Maybe the synergy of Friday becoming a themed sci-fi/fantasy night will help Once and Agents of Shield get another season each. I mean Once has had a good run so if season seven is the last, then I’ll be thankful for what we had. I will never be ready for Agents of Shield to be over, I definitely want a season six (and ten) of that. Sorry that’s a bit off topic.

In conclusion…
I’m cautiously optimistic and I’m looking forward to seeing what season seven has in store. Once isn’t perfect but there’s nothing on TV quite like it. Despite what I just said about Once having had a good run, I will be sad when it’s over. I’m not very good at letting go of things, and as often as Once has upset and disappointed me, Once is still my second favorite TV show of all-time. I’m going to miss it whenever it ends.

I’m not going to say that I can’t wait for season seven because I know I’m going to enjoy the hiatus. I love this fandom and the hiatus never seems long enough because I have so many fics to write! Season seven will probably give me a ton more ideas (this show is the gift that keeps on giving) so I want to have some time to write what I already have.

Season seven will be here soon enough, and it might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m fairly certain I’m going to enjoy it šŸ™‚
