Hey there, Sam! Santa here. I celebrate Christmas, sort of. It’s one of my least favorite holidays. My family exchanges gifts and has breakfast together. I think this year my dad and I are going to see Rogue One… Or maybe Moana. Do you celebrate? What do you do? I’m still plugging away on your gift… Hope it’s not as cold where you are as it is here… below freezing is too cold!

Yay Santa! *waves* It’s great to hear from you, how are you doing?

I have to admit to not liking Christmas much either. There’s so much emphasis on ‘forced togetherness’ and it’s all so fake. I’ve often joked that NaNoWriMo in November is my favorite holiday and much better than Christmas 🙂 I will be going to see Rogue One on the 30th I believe. I saw The Force Awakens on the 27th last year, it’s sort of become a Christmas tradition of it’s own.

It’s actually warmed up a bit. On Monday when I got up because I went to the gym. It was just before dawn (7am) and it was -3 and the ice was thick on the car. That was not much fun. However, yesterday it was 12 degrees I think, so no idea what the weather is doing really. I often find that it’s colder in January than it is in December, for the past few years it’s felt quite mild going up to Christmas and than whump new year hits and it’s freezing.

You said you are “plugging away at the gift” and so I hope you are enjoying it and that it’s not giving you too much trouble 🙂 I have fully planned out my RSS and made a start now, got about 3.5k in and yikes this is going to be long, I really need to put fingers on the keys and get going! As usual I have two things that remain to be decided – Gold’s name and the title – those two things always give me trouble 🙂

Anyway, I’m glad you are doing ok Santa and it was really great to hear from you again!

Santa here! I loathe snow and ice! I live in the Pacific Northwest of the states, so occasional ice and window-scraping, but very little snow and LOTS of hot chocolate (and complaining, which I love)! How are you doing? I’m plodding away at your story, but it wants to be a beast and I want it to be like a hunky lumberjack: both are large and furry, but one is infinitely more desireable than the other… ;) How is your own creation coming?

Hi Santa!

I think complaining about the weather is mandatory heh. Personally my hot drink of choice is black coffee. I’m allergic to milk so I’ve never had hot chocolate. Anyway, I’m going to make a really bad joke now. You don’t think beasts are desirable?

image

I think beasts can beat lumberjacks hehe (I told you it was a bad joke). I am sorry though if the fic is giving you trouble. Hopefully it will start behaving itself soon. I want you to have fun with it, so yeah I’m wishing you good luck!

As for my RSS fic … well I kinda haven’t started. I have my idea but I was trying to finish up some other fics first, and that sort of hasn’t happened. Basically I just have a big mess in my WIP folder right now. My plan is to update one WIP, and then forget the rest until RSS is finished. Ordinarily I could do both, but I’ve kinda lost my writing willpower recently, which is a bit scary. Anyway, there’s still about three weeks to go, so it’ll be fine.

How are you Santa? With it being December tomorrow, Christmas suddenly looks scary close. Do you celebrate Christmas? If you do, when do you decorate? Do you have any traditions? I hope you have a great week Santa!

I have seen Leverage at least four or five times as well! We have that in common… Sorry for being late on my love. Thanksgiving week was tough. How are you doing, dearest? -Santa

Hi Santa *waves*

It’s nice to hear from you again. I’m sorry thanksgiving was tough, I hope you had some good times as well. I’m doing alright I guess, mustn’t grumble 🙂 When I had to go out this morning, there was ice on the car. In England we’re wimps about the weather really, and so I was a bit grumpy about it heh. How’s the weather where you are Santa? Do you get snow for Christmas?

I hope you have a great week! 🙂

Rumbelle Revolution

rumbelleishope:

Remember, the revolution begins on Sunday, November 27. Tag your fics, updates and artwork as #rumbelle revolution so I can find and reblog everything.

Also someone wondered if we want to post everything during the episode. Would you guys prefer that or just posting all throughout Sunday?

Please let me know.

I want to post something (of course I need to write it first) but it’ll be before the episode because of timezones. I really don’t want to have to stay up until the early hours. So that’s a vote for all day Sunday, if that’s ok 🙂

It’s all beginning to coalesce! I have officially begun writing. Thanks for your helpful answers! I tend to write with the TV on, unless I’m visiting home, then I listen to classical music. I live in a tiny apartment and I don’t have a dedicated quiet space, so the temptation of netflix is always there, haunting me! I have been hitting girl punk music lately, lots of Avril and Kesha and Sleater-Kinney, the little of them I have anyway. I’m really passionate about Stranger Things! And some (c)

other shows like Buffy and Leverage. Nothing sits in my heart the way Rumbelle does, though. I stopped watching the show a long time ago, and at this point I’m not a fan of canon at all. I live in my happy Fanon place! 🙂 What sort of music do you listen to, Sam? And I see that you’re a writer – any jams that get your fingers flyin’? Talk to you soon! -Santa

Leverage! Oh merlin, I can rewatch that a lot. I think I’m on my 4th? complete rewatch and I only found the show a couple of years ago. It’s such a happy show to watch generally, the team are a family, the cons are interesting and the bad guys always get what they deserve. I also love the British Hustle for much the same reasons. Have you ever seen that?

Anyway, I’m thrilled that it’s all coming together for you! 🙂 I can’t write without listening to music and my music taste is … varied. Seriously I have something of almost everything on my iPod, from The Rat Pack to Linkin Park, and everything in between. When I’m writing, sometimes I’ll listen to music that fits the mood of what I’m writing. So if it’s a romance, then I’ll listen to ballads e.g. Ronan Keating. Other times I’ll listen to music to wake me up and get me going e.g. My Chemical Romance. Then sometimes I have certain artists that pick me up when I’m struggling e.g. Sick Puppies.

I like Avril sometimes, I like a couple of Kesha songs but don’t have any albums. I’ve not heard of Sleater-Kinney sorry. However, basically I love music. Silence isn’t really a thing with me. I find silence to be far more distracting than something with a regular tune which just fades into the background.

It’s really nice chatting with you Santa! I hope you have a great weekend 🙂

Hey Sam! We seem to have more and more in common with each passing message! I also dislike Zelena and Hook, and the Blue Fairy (to a lesser, less visceral extent). I don’t write much angst, and never character death! So we’re good there. Now my next question: Which Rumple/Gold do you like best? I haven’t firmly plotted your story yet, so I could go either fluffier, more moral and upright Rum, or Space!Dark One. Your choice! Hope you’re well – Santa

Hey Santa *waves*

Great to hear from you again! Hmm wow that is a really good question. I suppose either way he has a softer side towards Belle, letting her see behind his mask – it is just about the mask he shows the world. While he’s fun as the crazy playful Dark One, I’ve always been more fond of him as the sarcastic emotionless dealmaker. On the surface a bastard, but deep down so much more than that.

Everybody thinks he doesn’t care because he exacts a price, but what they never seem to understand is that the price is never more than they can pay. It’s all set out in a contract so it’s all very clear and everybody knows what they are getting. It’s a win/win. They get what they want, he gets something he wants. Plus he would only take jobs that he was comfortable with, because otherwise his “price” would be too high. However, everyone still hates him because he doesn’t do things because it’s right. He might quip that a man has to make a living. He’s definitely grey, though most would probably consider him a villain. He’s done things, or walked away from situations, and his conscience has let him.

It’s up to you of course how you write him. What I want most is for you to have fun and enjoy this. So if you get started and you would have more fun writing him as the crazy playful Dark One, as opposed to the more reserved Mr. Gold, then go right ahead. I want you to enjoy this!

How are you Santa? You know I love Stargate, but do you have any other shows that you absolutely love? What about music? Do you listen when you write? I hope you have a good weekend! 🙂

I’m pretty sure that message didn’t go through, so I’m recapping: Hi Sam! I’m watching Stargate for the first time. I want to know if you have any triggers or squicks for me to avoid – things you loathe beyond measure, characters you despise, words or phrases that gross you out. I want you to enjoy your fic! Sorry if this message is coming twice. Love Santa.

Hi Santa

Heh yeah if you sent a message between the first one, and this one, then tumblr ate it. You’re watching Stargate? You don’t have to do that, I mean sure everyone should watch Stargate because it’s amazing, but it’s not necessary. Like I said the prompt didn’t come from Stargate exactly. I suppose I mentioned Stargate rather than Firefly because of the feel of the show.

Stargate is a happy show, sure bad things happen but the angst is mostly external and the core of the show is the bond between the team. They have their differences but they always support one another. I love that team bond, plus they always win. It’s a lot more comedic than Firefly, plus it’s closer to home. SG1 are heroes but they feel like normal people. I just love the characters banter. Plus Stargate has a happy ending, there’s no character death (with three notable exceptions) and it just makes me happy to watch it.

Anyway, your questions are hard because I can’t think of anything beyond the usual. For characters, I don’t despise anyone but if you choose to use them, I’m not a fan of Zelena or the Blue Fairy unless they are villains. I don’t how you feel about Hook but if you use him I prefer him a villain to be honest.

For everything else I’m not a fan of a major character death. I wrote a fic recently with major character death, and I felt so guilty I wrote a second chapter the next day erasing the death and giving them a happy ending. I would definitely like a happy ending if at all possible.

Anyway, I think I’ve gone on a bit. I don’t want to scare you away Santa 🙂 I hope you are well and that you have a good week!

Rumbelle Revolution

rumbelleishope:

So, this season has been horrible for us and I know many of us are struggling out there. So let’s do something about it. Let’s show that this ship is ours and no one can take it away from us.

Let’s have a fic-a-thon. I understand many of us are doing Rumbelle Secret Santa, so I’m not suggesting anything huge. Let’s just write a little something or hold on an update for a fic and publish it on a specific date so we can all show how much we still love our favorite couple.

Some of you have suggested holding this Revolution for this Sunday. If this is agreeable, then we can do that. However, If others feel they want to have more time to write something, then suggest another date.

Let’s take our ship back and show they are still out OTP!

#I can certainly hold off on posting chapter four of I Love the Way until Sunday#that has so much fluff it’s giving me a sugar rush writing it

Hey there, Searching! This is your Santa speaking. The first thing I have to say is that I LOVE your prompt! It’s so creative and unique… It reminded me of the show Firefly. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, or if it was based off of another show, but I’m looking forward to writing something for you! I have twenty million questions, but I’ll try to pace myself. Anyway, it was nice to meet you! Let me know if you have a name or nickname you want me to use :) Love Santa.

Hi Santa *waves*

I am so happy that you love the prompt! I want you to enjoy the writing, so I’m thrilled that the prompt is good for you 🙂 Heh you don’t have to pace yourself, feel free to ask me questions, or just chat, or whatever at any time. I’m usually able to respond quite quickly unless I’m sleeping.

You can call me Sam if you like because that’s my name, well it’s Samantha but most people call me Sam. I have seen Firefly, but the prompt wasn’t based on that. I do have a bit of an obsession with Stargate but it wasn’t based on that either, it wasn’t really based on any show.

I hope this is going to be fun for you! Great to meet you as well 🙂

Oh I’m going to tag my replies to you ‘RSS Santa Reply’ so hopefully tumblr will let you find them.

Fandom Questions: G.

G: What was your first fandom?
*cringes* ok I was 11 and had just started high school. I liked hanging out in the library, and eventually volunteered as a student librarian. The senior student librarian was writing fanfic for this new spin-off show called The Royal. It had spun-off from Heartbeat, which was basically a British institution for a really long time, though I think it’s been cancelled now.

Anyway, they asked me to beta read and edit their fic for them. I liked having a sort-of friend, and so I wound up writing my own fic as well. It was a show I watched with my family, and while I didn’t care that much about it, I liked being a part of something. The older student created a fansite/forum for the show on the internet, and that attracted fans. It was actually amazing when I think about it now, how popular and active it was.

So yeah, The Royal/Heartbeat was my first fandom, and it kinda happened accidentally. I was a part of it for a year or so before I got iced out. I was too young really to be part of the “leadership”, the other student was 4 years older than me and as I was 11 that was quite significant. They appointed other mods without discussing it, and one of those mods really didn’t like me. Looking back now, I didn’t help myself but I was only 11. This other mod was 30 and the names they called me were quite appalling to be honest. That wasn’t a nice way to treat anyone, let alone someone you knew was just a kid.

By then I had moved on to other fandoms but I was still quite shaken at the time. However, now 15 years later, it’s just a distant memory and it’s hard to recall the details. The part I cringe the most about is the awful fanfic, but thankfully I think the worst of it is no longer floating around the internet. Seriously, I know I was 11 but that writing was very, very bad.
