Different fandoms? So I can only have one character per show/per franchise? Oh man that’s hard! How am I supposed to choose? Also lists are scary because I have a brain like a sieve and I always forget the obvious.
Under the cut because gifs are fun 🙂
1) Samantha Carter (Stargate)
Nicholas Rush was a very close second.
2) Rumplestiltskin (Once Upon a Time)
Regina was a very close second.
3) Leo Fitz (Agents of Shield)
With practically the entire cast right behind him. I love this show!
4) Two (Dark Matter)
5) Spike Scarlatti (Flashpoint)
Jules Callaghan was a very close second.
6) Ash Morgan (Hustle)
Stacie Monroe was a very close second.
7) Catherine Willows (CSI)
8) Irina Derevko (Alias)
Jack Bristow and Marshall Flinkman were very close seconds.
9) Ellie Bishop (NCIS)
This used to be Ziva David but the writers destroyed her character. Kensi Blye is a very close second.
I got this for 30p off Amazon Marketplace (the postage was 4x as much) and in all honesty I’m glad I didn’t pay any more. You know it’s funny, when I read the synopsis I thought I knew what this movie was about, but clearly I’d misread it, or the synopsis was wrong because not at all what I was expecting.
First off Ray (RC’s character) doesn’t really have his accent. Which considering I couldn’t really make out anything they were saying half the time, made me wonder part way through if watching it with the sound off would improve things. It was over halfway through before I understood the plot.
This was rated an 18 and I’m thinking it’s due a re-rating. Perhaps back in 1997 it was an 18 but by today’s standards it was incredibly tame. There was a reasonable amount of swearing but I’ve seen more violence/blood on an episode of CSI. From the back of the DVD the warning was for “strong violence” so yeah that was the funniest thing about it.
I know I’m not usually this sarcastic about the movies. I strive to say something positive but I’m struggling a little bit. I suppose it did improve once the ‘action’ such as it was started in the second half. Basically, not recommended in any fashion whatsoever which is a shame because it had Ray Winstone in it as well. He looked incredibly young which I guess makes sense. Anyway, if you’ve seen gifs from it, then you’ve seen the best part.
You know I don’t think I would be this harsh if it was a different genre. This, with armed robbers and shooting, is my bread and butter. It’s my kind of movie so I guess I feel a bit more equipped to judge it, than I have about some of RC’s other credits. With those I said ‘not my cup of tea but your mileage may vary’ because I do try and be fair.
I’m going to rent Summer off Amazon Video next. That isn’t my genre so I’ll probably be more polite about it 🙂
Travelers really grew on me the more I watched it and now it’s adding actors I like!! Sorry I’m just going to be minorly excited for a second. I always love it when actors I loved in something, then crop up in something else. Sometimes it’s weird if they are really different characters but that just then proves how talented they are as actors.
Enrico Colantoni has been in tons of stuff but I’ll always think of him as Sergeant Greg Parker from Flashpoint (man I miss that show, I’ve rewatched it several times I loved it so much) and of course Amanda Tapping needs no introduction. She was the phenomenal Samantha Carter on Stargate SG1. She’s only guest starring and mostly directing but she’s great at that as well. I was watching Killjoys the other week and she guest starred and directed an episode which was fun 🙂
I only have a handful of actual OTP’s. I tend to casual ship a fair bit because I like characters to be happy, so if it’s canon then I usually root for them. Not always, there are some ships I don’t like. Anyway do my OTP’s have anything in common? Well what are they for a start?
I’m probably going to go on a bit. I know, I know you weren’t expecting an essay *rolls eyes at self* I’ll try to keep it brief but under the cut because gifs are fun.
Jack Malone and Samantha Spade (Without a Trace)
Jack Bristow and Irina Derevko (Alias)
Rumplestiltskin/Gold and Belle/Lacey (Once Upon a Time)
Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons (Agents of Shield)
These are the ships I would ride or die for. I’m wavering about whether to add Swanfire to the list because I really do ship them. However, I’m kinda thinking that if I have any doubt that it’s an OTP then it’s probably not quite there.
So what do they have in common?
Well aside from Fitzsimmons which is my most recent obsession I’ve written fanfic for all of them. That’s more to do with being an OTP though and not anything to do with them as a couple, or is it? I joked yesterday that I always picked OTP’s that hurt me.
My first ever OTP was Jack and Sam. I quit Without a Trace after season four because it changed in a way I didn’t like, and back then I had the ability to still walk away. I seem to have lost that ability but I digress. Anyway, I still kept up with the news about Jack/Sam and I was thrilled when they got back together! Then in the shows finale – the very final episode – they broke up. No happy ending for them. Jack and Irina were even worse, Irina went through some major character assassination to serve the plot and then in the shows finale – the very final episode – they both got killed and not even together, they were on separate continents even.
Rumbelle, well I don’t have to explain their rollercoaster of their relationship. Fitzsimmons get torn apart all the time! Brain damage, undercover assignments, being kidnapped, being sucked through a portal to an alien world, being sucked into another dimension, being replaced by robots etc. Fitz actually said that he thought the cosmos had it out for them.
So common point one – their relationship faces many challenges.
Fitzsimmons kinda breaks the mold because the other three have a common point of their relationship/love being forbidden/not approved of by others. However, they do all have “saving each others lives” as a common point.
– Jack/Sam had Jack walking into a hostage situation and trading himself for Sam who was shot.
– Jack/Irina had a couple of examples though I’m not sure if theirs is negated by the fact that they also tried to kill one another.
– Rumbelle, well you know that list 🙂
– Fitzsimmons had Fitz jumping through a hole in the universe to save Simmons on an alien world. Simmons would also do anything for Fitz. She stunned a superior officer back when she was all nervous in season one because Fitz was in danger and she had to save him.
There are other examples too but I’m trying not to go on for forever.
So common point two – they save each other from danger.
What else? I think the fact that they know each other better than anyone else. They always know what to say to give comfort/support and they don’t need many words to do it – they can speak without words. From Rumple saying “You made me stronger” to Simmons saying “I can’t think without Fitz” – they need one another. They aren’t just lovers, they are friends. They fit together, even if some of them perhaps shouldn’t have anything to do with one another e.g. Jack/Irina, the amount of betrayal in that relationship is unreal but they are still drawn back to one another like magnets.
I’m not explaining this one very well. I suppose it’s about true love which is doing what is best for the other person, not what is best for you. It’s not about what you want, it’s about what the person you love needs. When Jack/Sam broke up in the finale, Jack broke up with Sam first because he could tell she was there to break up with him and that it was cutting her up inside. He let her go with his blessing, to try and make a go of it with her son’s father, because that’s what she needed to do and he wanted her to be happy.
So common point three – they are all true love and care more about each others happiness than what they personally want.
Haven’t I go on enough? Last point I promise. The couples are all equals – both smart, both capable, both skilled. They both bring something to the party and it makes for a true partnership.
– Jack/Sam are both federal agents, with equal training and skills. Jack has more experience because he’s older but Sam has more training in other areas. They respect one another and defer to the others judgement when appropriate, but aren’t afraid to argue if they think they are wrong.
– Jack/Irina are both highly capable and skilled spies. Alone they are deadly but together they are a force to be reckoned with.
– Rumbelle on the surface looks like it’s not balanced because Rumple is so much older, has magic etc. but Belle is really smart in her own right and brilliant at research. I reckon the show have never let them work together because they’d take care of any problem within an episode. With Belle’s determination and knowledge, and Rumple’s shrewd mind for strategy and magical power, no bad guy of the week would stand a chance.
– Fitzsimmons are the scientists and the very definition of friends to lovers. Simmons is biochem and Fitz is engineering, they compliment one another. Honestly they can finish each others sentences and they know how each other works and it’s wonderful.
So common point four – they all respect one another/are equal partners.
They are started from such different places and they separated and came back together over and over. Sometimes by their own choice, sometimes because outside forces tore them apart:
– Jack/Sam was an affair. It should have been a cliche with an older, married boss but then love got involved. Jack has a guilt complex a mile wide and Sam has commitment issues. It was also against the regulations because they worked together but love doesn’t care about that kind of thing.
– Jack/Irina started on a lie because Irina was a Russian spy deep cover, and then Jack believed she was dead for twenty years. Even after all the lies, all that pain, there was still the love because that had been true even if everything else hadn’t been.
– Rumbelle started with a deal but Rumple wasn’t capable of mistreating Belle and she was through his defenses before he even worked out what was happening. Belle hadn’t expected love, she’d just wanted to save her people, and yet love happened anyway. This will always be my favorite BatB adaptation because there was no ulterior motive to them falling in love, quite the opposite in fact.
– Fitzsimmons like I said are the definition of friends to lovers. They were friends for years and it didn’t occur to either of them, and then it occurred to Fitz but he was too afraid to say anything. Simmons took some time to work out what she felt, and their constant separations didn’t help. Once they decided though that was it, it was like the last puzzle piece clicked into place. Their relationship didn’t change what they had, it just added passion and romance to the mix.
So common point five maybe – they are always getting torn apart.
Wow and this was me trying to be brief. I’m sorry for the essay /cringes I just really do love my OTP’s even if they do hurt me.
YES! Yes to lots of things but I’ll just pick one for today 🙂
Alias
They turned Irina into a power hungry idiot, who knew reaching for the globe thing would mean her death and did it anyway. So she died. Then on a completely different continent, Jack got shot and then blew himself up to kill Sloane (it actually just buried him alive). So he died. Jack and Irina’s relationship was complicated, messy and filled with pain. By rights they should have kept well away from each other but they couldn’t because despite everything they loved one another.
If I could have written an alternative ending I would have had them both live for a start. There would be no such thing as a happy ending for them but to be honest they both operated more in the grey area. So Jack would be quasi-legal and Irina quasi-bad guy and they would snipe at one another, betray one another but always come back and work together. They would both be shown as the smart, capable operatives that they are.
I also wouldn’t have killed Nadia off, Sark would have had a bigger role, Sydney and Vaughn would either have been less whiny or smaller roles. Marshall would be as epic as ever – oooh more Weiss I liked him. So basically I wouldn’t have killed off the cool people and I would have kept them smart, and not had them suddenly become super dumb for the plot.
Favorite Female: Regina. I feel bad saying that because I feel like I should say Belle but I really, really love Regina. Sorry.
Favorite Male: Rumplestiltskin aka Mr Gold, like it’s going to be anyone else 🙂
3 Other Favorite Characters: Belle, Emma (season 1-2 edition) and Neal/Bae.
3 OTP’s: Rumbelle, Swanfire and Brave Warrior.
NoTP: GoldenQueen. I love them as frenemies, but it is just so wrong as romance. Really, so very wrong.
Funniest Character: Hook has his moments and I’m not saying that to be mean. Colin O’Donoghue has excellent comedic timing. I really feel like he’s in his element playing the brash playboy pirate.
Prettiest Character: I really don’t like the word pretty, but most attractive, to be honest I think it has to be a tie because Rumple/Gold obviously but also Regina.
Most Annoying Character: Snow probably. Sorry.
Most Badass Character: Rumple/Gold, when he’s on form, oh wowzer.
Character I’d like as my BFF: Regina except she would make me feel really inferior. Perhaps just as penpals. Maybe Belle would be better, though that could be a little awkward given my admiration for her husband.
Female Character I’d Marry: This is going to be quite predictable – Regina.
Male Character I’d Marry: Again you can probably guess – Rumple/Gold.
Character I hate/dislike/least like: Zelena I think. When she was being out and out wicked, I kinda had a “love to hate” thing going on because she was brilliant to watch. I despised her actions but she did have some very good lines. These days? Not so much. She should have been retired as a villain to be honest, just like Cora was.
You know if they were going to keep a villain around couldn’t we have had a vote? I think Cora would have been fascinating or Pan actually. They both had the sneaky, master plan with dozens of contingencies thing going on, so if the heroes failed to defeat them, then it wouldn’t be as bad as not defeating someone like Zelena who is kinda in your face type villain. I’m getting off topic oops sorry.
Favorite Female: Samantha Carter, she was in I don’t know two episodes. That’s cheating? Yeah ok. Alright Lisa Park. She was the female scientist on board and basically wins by default.
Favorite Male: Nicholas Rush! Like you have to ask heh 🙂
3 Other Favorite Characters: Volker, Varro and wow this is hard. I’m going to go with Greer, he never pretended to be something he wasn’t.
3 OTP’s: I don’t think I have one let alone three.
NoTP: Rush and Young. I love Rush and so I search for him sometimes and just no, so very wrong.
Funniest Character: Well Eli tries very hard for this title but I think I’d have to go with Brody.
Prettiest Character: Pretty isn’t exactly the right word but come on Rush is hands down the most attractive on board.
Most Annoying Character: Eli probably. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate all his pop culture references because let’s get real, if we were thrown into that situation we’d be the same. It’s his inconsistent loyalty and general naivety. Although to be honest the same could be said of Chloe. I think they probably tie for the honor.
Most Badass Character: Rush! No seriously. He’s the one that dealt with the Lucian Alliance invasion. He’s the one that saves their asses everytime aliens attack. I mean Greer is the badass with the gun, but Rush is the real hero.
Character I’d like as my BFF: I know I’m getting repetitive but it has to be Rush. Though whether he could put up with me is another matter.
Female Character I’d Marry: None of them seeing as Samantha Carter would be cheating again.
Male Character I’d Marry: Rush, hands down, no contest.
Character I hate/dislike/least like: Young! I loathe him, my hatred for him knows no bounds. Usually I don’t hate any characters because once I understand them, then I can’t hate them. I think Young might be the only character I out and out despise.
Favorite Female: Hmm not sure. I confess I haven’t seen the last 3 seasons. I think I might go for Amber. I liked how she didn’t take any crap.
Favorite Male: House. It is his show and I love the sarcasm. I didn’t like it when he took things too far as that meant he stopped being good to watch, and turned into me watching through my fingers cringing. Ultimately though yeah I have to go with him.
3 Other Favorite Characters: Cameron, Stacy and Cuddy.
3 OTP’s: House and Stacy, Wilson and Cameron, Wilson and Amber.
NoTP: House and Cameron, or House and Cuddy. There’s a reason I kinda drifted away from this show. Once Stacy left, and the fun of the ‘Charlies Angels’ picking new interns was over, I really wasn’t invested.
Funniest Character: House. Hugh Laurie kills it – he’s amazing.
Prettiest Character: Cameron (she did go on to play Emma Swan so yeah)
Most Annoying Character: Chase probably. I really wasn’t a fan.
Most Badass Character: I don’t actually think I would use the word ‘badass’ to describe any character on House. Sorry.
Character I’d like as my BFF: Well Wilson’s the obvious choice. If he can put up with House then he can put up with anyone.
Female Character I’d Marry: Cameron probably
Male Character I’d Marry: None of them, they are all far too annoying.
Character I hate/dislike/least like: I don’t know. I was at least mildly annoyed by all of the characters at one point or another. To be honest the ones that I didn’t like something about, I didn’t care enough about them to dislike them.
Ooooh ok I’m a bad Star Trek fan, I never got on with the older series. I love the new movies, I’m itching for the new series and I had a love/hate relationship with Enterprise. I think I’m going to go with the movies, otherwise I’ll wind up getting snarky about Trip.
A crossover ship I’d dig: Like I said the last time I did this, the problem is so many people are already paired up on Once. Honestly I think I might go for Kirk and early seasons Emma. They have difficult childhoods in common, they both have a saving people thing, they both have a fighting against authority thing. It would be prickly, lots of drinking in hick bars, lots of sassing one another but ultimately they’d both understand the burdens the other faced and step up when the situation called for it.
A crossover BroTP I’d dig: Bones and Regina – can you imagine the levels of sarcasm?
A crossover Frenemies I think would be inevitable: Spock and Rumple. Either they’d work together well, or it would be like oil and water. I think it would depend on what side they were on. I think Spock would appreciate Rumple’s approach (and Rumple would seriously appreciate Spock’s logic) but if they were on opposite sides then it’s like immovable object meet unstoppable force.
A crossover badass duo I think would be inevitable: Chekov and Henry. Chekov was 17 when he was first assigned to Enterprise – a genius. Henry has been battling evil so to speak since he was 10 so he has experience, and an innate understanding of the book.
A crossover animosity I think would be inevitable: Scotty vs magic. I think he would love it, right up until he couldn’t figure out how it worked. He’s an engineer and it would be like waving candy at him and holding it just out of reach. Merlin help Regina’s vault or the pawnshop if Scotty with his detector got let loose on them.
In my on going quest to work my way through Robert Carlyle’s filmography, I just watched this movie. It was alright, a semi-decent fantasy movie. It kinda follows the usual script of young kid is the ‘chosen one’, makes a stupid mistake, his mentor dies in front of his eyes, he embraces his destiny etc. Quite formulaic really.
Still the special effects weren’t bad, the setting/backstory was interesting enough. I think the movie was intended to start up a franchise, but then according to wiki the movie bombed so obviously that didn’t happen. There are quite a few unanswered questions like why did Eragon’s mother abandon him? What happened to his cousin? Also the ending was a clear set up for another movie. They’d won a battle but the war was just beginning.
Right, so how about Durza? Well, his appearance was very Rumple-esque. Honestly he was kinda like Rumple-lite to be honest. I have questions about him too, I mean for someone with Durza’s power, why was he afraid of and serving the King? I know the King obviously had magic because of his dragon but Durza had some pretty mad skills. To be honest I’m glad there weren’t more movies because *spoiler alert* Durza gets killed off, which was a waste of a good villain. He really wasn’t in this movie enough.
So basically watching it for Robert Carlyle is a bit of a waste. He’s really not in it that much, and his performance is like I said Rumple-lite. Watching it as a fantasy movie, it’s ok but nothing to write home about. It was enjoyable enough, and it’s certainly more my kind of thing than some other RC projects I’ve seen. I didn’t finish this one and think “what did I just watch?” which is always a good thing.
Actually thinking about it, the movie was better than I’m giving it credit for. I love the fantasy genre but I can find their movies a bit boring. I watched Snow White and the Huntsman the other day and I paused it and literally groaned because I couldn’t believe I was only halfway through, it felt interminable. I didn’t do that with this one, it passed and the ending happened and I wasn’t really checking the clock.
I guess I’m kinda luke-warm on it. It was alright, nothing more and nothing less.
Someone reblogged that crossover ask game thing from me. I went to ask them a question, and realized I didn’t know their fandoms, and it seems like the kind of game where it would be helpful to have a working knowledge of both. Then that made me realize that you guys probably don’t know what shows I’m familiar with, aside from what I sometimes reblog.
Now obviously I like some of these a lot more than others, and I’m not in any fandom apart from Rumbelle 🙂 However, I have a working knowledge of all of these shows/movies …
Of these, we have in common Almost Human (well, I watched and loved the first two seasons anyway, lol), Firefly (talk shiny to me!), and House M.D.
Almost Human only had one season. I’m guessing you are thinking of something different? Almost Human was my Firefly. I will be forever bitter that Almost Human didn’t get picked up after the initial 13 episode order. The characters were great, the setting was interesting, there were a ton of unanswered questions. It was a brilliant show and they messed it about by screwing with the episode order and then cancelled it. That was a few years ago now and I’m still annoyed.
