Seriously epic big temper tantrum!!! I just can’t freaking believe it!
GAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
There has been one constant with Dark Matter, the season finales have been fast-paced, heart-stopping, face-clutching and leave me screaming at the TV because urk I need to know what’s going to happen so bad!!!!
I knew that the show had been cancelled and there was no season four since last autumn. I knew that the show ended on a cliffhanger.
I DID NOT KNOW IT ENDED ON THIS BIG OF A CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!
Seriously?!?!?! How could they do this? How? How? How?
This aired last August so no spoilers when I ask:
– How do they get the alien out of Two?
– Is Three going to be ok with alt!Portia? What is alt!Boone going to say?
– How many ships did Ryo lose? Is Teku dead?
– How do they get the alien out of Two?
– Is Six dead?
– Given Alicia Reynaud knew Five’s real name, is she such a monster not to realise the obvious approach? Aka “I’m the adopted mother of your sister let me help you” kinda thing. What kind of mother to Five’s sister will that have made her if it didn’t even occur to her?
– How old is Two’s kid? Who is Krydon? How did Two know she could trust them?
– Does alt!Portia want to go back to her reality for her kid? That would explain why they kept going after the blink drive. Could lead to bonding between her and Three because Three has a big heart (though he tries to hide it).
– Is Six dead?
– Oh let’s not forget the big alien ships that invaded aka The Black Ships, which doesn’t sound menacing at all
– What universe/reality do these aliens come from?
But leaving aside all the cliffhangers … the seriously big question is if there had been a Season Four because they crossed over with Stargate as was proposed how the hell would that have worked?????
Connecting Stargate
They are in the 2700′s if my math is right from the time travel episode. Stargate happened in modern day, roughly the year it first aired is what the year was in the show, with Stargate Universe being the last and finishing in 2011. Now back before they confirmed there was an Earth, then Dark Matter could have been in another galaxy, maybe the unknown one with the unknown ship that SG1 visited season 4/5.
With an Earth that would lean more towards an alternate reality and with the lack of Stargates, presumably one where the Ancients didn’t seed the stars with them. The problem is those 600-ish years! I mean I dislike the concept within Dark Matter as it is because too much is recognisable I guess. They wear clothes that I see in stores now, their computer monitors and peripherals look like the ones I’m using etc. I’ve always thought the problem with going into the future with sci-fi is after a certain point it becomes beyond our comprehension. If it’s not beyond our imagination, then it’s unlikely to be realistic.
Anyway, bridging the time for a crossover is a problem. 600 years on the world of Stargate would be unrecognisable and not worth the crossover. We can’t take the world of Dark Matter back 600 years because that would – well it’s the Dark Matter world we’re dealing with and all the stakes are there.
So TLDR it’s a matter of crossing time and space. Now the blink drive did “tear a hole in time and space” which is how the Black Ships invaded. Also production wise outside of guest-starring it’s unlikely any Stargate veterans would appear on the Dark Matter/Stargate season four. For a start it would be impossible for some as Weir is Commander Truffault, McKay is Talbor etc. That would hardly be the first time that ‘doubles’ had appeared on Stargate (Narim and Simon being one of the most egregious in my mind).
Wanting to link the two fictional verses through the invading aliens is the obvious choice. HOWEVER the problem of course is what the alien said about the Dark Matter universe being younger and they could get “a billion years out of it”. So I’m wondering if the wispy black floating plus ‘energy anomaly’ could have meant something else like perhaps the Ori? Merlin built a device to ‘kill’ ascended beings but it’s not like he tested it AND the first law of thermodynamics is that energy can’t be created or destroyed. What if the fiery Ori, turned black like ash and were banished to yet another plane of existence.
They were cut off from the power they had drawn from their followers but they still had that superior “we should rule” thing going on. Unable to retake human form and not wanting to be so week and with time having no meaning on their plane, they cracked a hole into an alternate reality enough to find a candidate – Rook – who could build them a superior body to possess. They certainly knew how to construct it, human form replicators are proof of that. So they could retain their immortality and knowledge and power of being ascended but once again be able to affect the mortal plane.
The Dark Matter universe IS younger when it comes to the power they can draw from it. The Ancients have been around in the Stargate universe for over fifty million years. We know this because that was when the Ancients left their home galaxy behind rather than fight a civil war, against the group that became known as the Ori. They had spaceships and had created such complex devices as the Ori superweapon at that time, so presumably they’d already been around for a while. The Ancients fingerprints are all over half a dozen galaxies, plus many more due to the seed ships and Destiny. The Dark Matter universe would be a fresh start for the Ori.
Did they blow up the supergate at the end of Ark of Truth? I don’t remember that happening. Given that there were Ori warships at various stages of being built, plus maybe plans as somebody had to build them, I’m guessing that’s a resource the IOA wouldn’t want to just ignore. So maybe a team is over looking at the ships when sensors pick up something crazy and…
Problem with that of course is those damn Black Ships. If the Ori already had access to the material plane then they wouldn’t need Rook, wouldn’t need the synthetic bodies, wouldn’t need the Dark Matter world.
Damn you see this is why I HATE cliffhangers. I can’t puzzle out what the hell they would have done because it just doesn’t make sense!
Forget Stargate
That was only a last ditch way to keep Dark Matter on the air anyway, so forget trying to crossover and just focus on those questions like:
– How do they get the alien out of Two?
– Is Six alive?
WHAT HAPPENS????????
#cursed cliffhangers#how could they do this to us#I need to know#I’m screaming
