I know Black Lightning is DC but I was wondering earlier what Lynn would say if it was in the MCU and so the Sokovia Accords were a thing. When Jefferson wasn’t using his powers then it was a non-issue but once “Black Lightning is back” happened then uh-oh.
In case anyone wonders why I’m rambling about this. I’m holding a “virtual write-in” for my region for Camp NaNo this evening. I set it for 7-9pm tonight because there had been some real-world write-ins last November then so I thought it might be a good time. I said to tell me if it wasn’t and nobody said anything.
An hour in and nobody has shown up yet. I can’t do anything because I have to refresh the page every couple of minutes so I’m just marking time by fishing in Warcraft and writing this in between fishes.
So the rambling
I’ve always wondered how the Sokovia Accords worked with Spiderman to be honest. I’m assuming that Tony worked out some kind of deal for him, perhaps that’s why Happy is his overseer and also another reason why Tony was so upset over the ferry incident. He was telling the UN that Spiderman was doing the equivalent of helping people cross the street, so they didn’t have to worry about his powers. Then in front of a Federal taskforce Spiderman goes toe-to-toe with a supervillain – ooops.
Of course with Gambi *cough* Jefferson could have been registered quietly. That would be another reason for both Lynn and Jefferson to be terrified about Anissa though. I mean on one hand “the index” as it was originally offered support to people like Mike Peterson who to quote Skye got into “a ton of weird crap he was in no way ready for”. On the other hand we’ve seen the list compromised in Agents of Shield by the Watchdogs (an outside group). For the Pierce family though I’d imagine they’d be just as worried about changing political winds. It wasn’t so long ago there was talk of an inhuman ‘reservation’ after all :/
On a lighter note as I’m getting a bit pessimistic about he world. What about an entirely different problem? It was decided that the face of Shield – the Director – should be an enhanced individual. Talbot said he was told to find “the next Captain America” and Mace fit the bill apart from the powers. Jefferson would be the real deal though. Former olympian, campaigner for social justice, never forgot where he came from, dedicated public servant etc.
Can you imagine what Lynn’s response would be if Jefferson called to say Talbot had knocked at the door and asked him to be the new Director?
Anonymity would be out the window if he said yes. If they tried to keep their current lives they’d probably have to get assigned agents for their protection. Given Black Lightning’s history with Freeland, plus Jefferson’s notoriety ‘black Jesus’ as he was called in one episode, everyone would have an opinion. It would probably be easier to completely uproot, their lives would never be the same again …
… and Lynn would probably never forgive Jefferson for that.
All she wanted was a life with the man she loved and as Anissa noted she didn’t like coming second to Jefferson’s sense of duty. She was always very firm that his ‘Black Lightning life’ never came near their daughters. Although learning that Anissa had powers, and was determined to use them to do good, did seem to give her a new perspective.
I wonder whether the fact that it would be official and not vigilantism would affect her opinion? I suppose it might be easier then as there would be no double life, and he would have other people to patch him up so it’s not so personal. It would be like if he was a soldier or an agent. She would still worry obviously but the situation would be a lot more controlled.
On to a slightly different topic
Same kind of vein though. Has anyone noticed that the MCU can’t seem to decide whether Shield is international or is an American agency? I thought they were international but then I think Mace said something about funding from congress. Plus it was congress in the Winter Soldier movie that were holding hearings about Shield’s collapse.
What did they said to Black Widow. You have “laid waste to our intelligence apparatus” – but that would be the CIA surely? Shield reported to the World Security Council which I always figured was part of the UN. Then just like other international agencies, each country would have to contribute a certain amount.
I’m confused.
I’m also running out of semi-related things to ramble about. I also need to move fishing spots. I now have got all the Darkmoon Faire vendor items. This is being a very long evening.
