“I’m afraid Miss French the library apartment is not fit for habitation. I should have checked it more thoroughly before agreeing to the rental,” Gold told her, idly tapping his cane on the floor.

Belle looked concerned. “I’m sure it will be fine Mr Gold, I won’t get in the way of the repairs.”

“That’s not my concern dearie,” Gold’s eyes softened. “It would be against the terms of the contract, and I always keep my end of the deal. As the apartment is currently unfit, I will rent you a room at the B&B until the repairs are complete.”
