^^ and there is the reaction of every single Stargate fan in two sentences.
That was how the franchise finished and that made it even worse!
Although there are compensations. Robert Carlyle went directly from SGU to Once Upon a Time. If SGU hadn’t been cancelled then Gold/Rumple wouldn’t be the same and I honestly can’t imagine any other actor in that role. Robert Carlyle is phenomenal and I don’t think anyone else could pull of his range, encapsulating every level of the character.

It kinda sucks actually because it boils down to “your ideas are as good as ours, we hadn’t really thought about it. Make your own choice”. I wanted what would have been canon and to be honest I don’t know how they write like that. How can they write a cliffhanger like that without knowing how they will resolve it? You know I think this is one of the problems the Once writers have. They come up with a really cool ending, and only when they come back after hiatus they realize they have written themselves into a corner.
Also I wrote up my happy ending possibilities for Rush and Mandy earlier like I promised you – link – I might have rambled a bit and showed my obsession love for Stargate. I apologize for that as you are SGU only and not Stargate as a whole.
I watched Stargate first. All of SG1 and all of Atlantis. I didn’t like SGU first time I tried it and quit after episode 4. Then I discovered Once Upon a Time and fell in love with Gold/Rumple. I was watching the show with a friend and they went on vacation and I had a week without watching and I went into withdrawal. I watched SGU because of Rush and by the time I reached episode 10 of season 1 I was officially hooked.
Oh you can also blame MGM for going bankrupt for the lack of Stargate. There was supposed to be an SG1 movie and an Atlantis movie (code-named Extinction and Evolution I think) but the bottom fell out of the direct to DVD market and the projects got shelved. As a last ditch attempt they pitched a combined SG1, Atlantis and Universe movie to tie up loose ends (like leaving everyone on Destiny and urk what happens to them???) but that never got off the ground.
Joe Flanigan (lead actor of Atlantis) apparently got full financial backing to buy the rights of the show from MGM to produce more of the franchise but the talks got suspended by MGM going bankrupt, then afterwards all new people were in the jobs and nobody was interested in a cash infusion (how does that make sense?) so the deal never happened. Now they have given the rights back to the original creators (Devlin and Emmerich) who don’t like the TV show and are rebooting using their original ideas only. Honestly guys how many people do you think know about Stargate from that one movie in 1994? vs how many people know about it from the 17 seasons on TV? Just saying.
So yeah TLDR: I agree with you completely. How could they end it like that? I want to know what happened next!
