Ok here we go.
Oh no š¬ that āpreviously onā talking about death of crew and we just had one last week! (Hope itās that and not someone else š ).
Kirk lamenting being bored and wanting more risk š feels quite on brand tbh. I know tumblr has compared Kirk and Picard and been like āpeople think Kirk as this rebel party womaniser but actually itās the other way roundā. Still Kirk does not strike me as an academic learner – he likes learning by doing, can I at least say that?
I was about to say the bridge is very human again but at least the Farragutās captain is a Vulcan. Aaaand Kirk now has more excitement than he could ever want 𤣠the old be careful what you wish for.
The intro is always so pretty /sigh.
Speaking just as an aside I donāt dislike SNW Kirk the way I do Shatner, and I have really liked some of his episodes for sure buuuuuut idk, I feel like we donāt get the screen time for my SNW faves as it is :/ I so wish they had followed up on the āpromiseā of more episodes per season. The head dude said season 1 and 2 should be seen as āone seasonā and were only split and short like that because of the pandemic but nah, itās now like that for 3 and 4 and 5 is even less and thatās all we are getting š If there were more episodes I wouldnāt mind Kirk popping up a couple of times a season because SNW Kirk is cool. Just give me more Una, more Ortegas, more MāBenga, more Pike etc.
Enterprise is here to save the day!
I guess they were close enough to somehow get the mayday? Donāt really care how, itās just cool they are there. Ah maybe it was the escape podsā¦. Oh bloody hell big big scary alien ship with tentacles.
It ATE the Enterprise š±
Oh Kirk is now Captain I see what they did there, and bringing Spock on board and Uhura, Scotty in engineering, even Chapel! itās like a mini TOS bridge.
Maybe if power is so limited they should turn off some of the screens? š
I wonder if this is where Scottyās faith in Kirk comes from? Like he knows Kirk is insane and he has to pad the time to do things like say ābest I can do is a dayā when he can do it in half because he knows Kirk will jump early regardless etc. But Scotty still believes in him. Perhaps itās Kirkās āitās a risk but I believe in usā – and then that risk paying off. They win, they live, and Kirkās legacy begins.
Peliaās reminded twice about her age – first 5000?? (Damn!) years old and now ālived through the 1980āsā. I wonder if thatās because itās going to become really relevant somehow or if they just wanted to remind the audience why sheās special š¤
Wow jumping to medically unfit already? Aaaand Spock is going in for a legendary Kirk Spock pep talk.
I think Laāan and Puke should put their helmets back on. Both for breathing and also for protection against falling glass.
The way those aliens absorbed the phasers reminded me a bit of the Borg š¤
Wow Pelia has a lot of stuff thatās cool and accurate. Totally makes sense given her long life but that many phones? and isnāt the ship too big for cables? š I mean they donāt have that much cables, even if I accept that Pelia had 4 phones. But hey itās fun so sure.
Awww nice pep talk from Spock. Follow your intuition š„ŗ
The way Scotty describes the scavengers āconsumingā sounds like the Borg to me š§ like they exist only to do that. Thatās always what reminded me of Stargate replicators when it came to the Borg.
Smashing their shield things is smart but guess Pike didnāt finish? Laāan vaporised hers and his took 2 hits.
Uhura is at the helm! Whoo I love that for her but second time out? I hope sheās been listening to Ortegas.
Go Una!
Damn š± that was like a Death Star moment! Big ship goes boom from the inside.
Human?? I have questions. Ok I have answers but Kirkās point is a good one. How did they go from a pre-warp like almost āpresent dayā spaceship to a very advanced monster scavenger? More to the point – why??
Like in scavenging they started to make contact and knew the Galaxy was full of aliens. Why not ask for help? Why not return to earth?
Kirkās feeling bad about the 7000 dead but wasnāt there like 100 million on that planet they diverted them from? Nice speech from Pike about living with consequences. I donāt know if Kirk always remembers that about not being so different, he really hated the Klingons and the Romulans. He did have a bit of a disturbing āitās worse because they were humanā – like said the quiet part out loud even.
Another good episode. Intense. Gripping. I could do with some lower stakes to get a breath tbh. More lamenting about short seasons /sigh
