Ok finally getting round to watching episode 4. Been too tired lately to enjoy it.
Thankfully I don’t think I have as much to say as usual given so much of it is in the holodeck. I did find that odd at first, it felt really early but then I thought about it. For it to be so polished and established in TNG time it would have needed to have been in development a while so I guess 🤷♂️ (it still feels really early).
Is holo-Chapel’s accent Australian? Is that her normal accent? I did not know that.
No lie I super HATE the La’an/Spock thing they are trying to set up. I surprisingly did not hate the La’an/Kirk thing from the alternate reality/time travel adventure which led to a sort of crush? Which died a swift death because prime!Kirk was involved with Carol (still think it was a retcon/goof they had Kirk know she was pregnant given how he seemed to have no clue about David in the film but I digress). Anyway! The Kirk/La’an thing felt surprisingly ok given how it played out, and it was 98% with not real Kirk anyway. This Spock/La’an thing is just noooo please don’t. First, haven’t we had enough Spock romance shenanigans? Second, there are characters other than Spock. Third, I am fed up with Spock and love messes. Four, La’an deserves better than something so obviously doomed. Five, what were they smoking? Why do they even think this is a good idea? I mean don’t get me wrong La’an’s actress is selling the potential chemistry which says everything about her acting ability and nothing about the characters.
Ahem. Anyway! I find it both super creepy and also grateful a little bit they have explained about the transporter scans + holodeck characters. It always bothered me on TNG how super creepy dude (Barclay) could replicate Deanna like that. At least now we know why the likeness is able to be used (even if the holodeck designers really should have thought about the creepy abuses people do).
I still don’t understand how the holodeck makes places so much bigger and the characters don’t bump into walls. Does the floor shift them without somehow letting them see/get motion sick.
Did they put Pike’s holo character in a fat suit? He had like a beer belly in the holo which I can’t see in his regular uniform.
No safety protocols in SNW holo? Ah I see. Oh I have seen this episode 😂 (joke, except…) Stargate. Teal’c was testing a new battle simulator and they had to raise the challenge because he was a great warrior – it made it unwinnable basically. So everytime he got close, the simulator swerved to snatch victory. And La’an asked for it to challenge her – HER. Yeeeeeah.
I wonder why Scotty won’t admit the problem and instead is doing it as a “hypothetical” 🤔
I do find it clever what they did with “The Last Frontier” though. Even riffing on that stare that Shatner did and holo-Uhura’s speech about how the show mattered and the impact 😍 only have to think of Nichelle Nichols for that. So poignant. Right in the feels.
La’an’s eyeshadow is certainly a choice. I know she had to replicate that outfit but picking makeup to go with it is just so very extra. I love that for her.
It was hilarious how holo-Pike was saying about holo-Una doing anything to save the show and get rid of him – because that’s what happened with Pike and Kirk 😂
Awww Scotty has trauma. He did ask for help though. He asked Uhura. Did Una not know that or think he should have asked for more?
Interesting though what Scotty said about dedicated separate power/server as I think that’s how come even with shit is bad then can still run the holodeck later.
Oh lord this La’an/Spock dance scene 😢 a kiss???? For reals??? I’m in pain.
The deleted scenes of the Last Frontier were a much better ending. I about died with the Riker manoeuvre haha.
