On a scale of one to “rethink your life choices” how sad is the fact I actually book time off work to write fanfic?

I think that’s cool! Definitely not sad. I mean people book time off for all sorts of reasons. I mean vacation time is “time to pursue hobbies” or “relaxation time”.
Personally I find actual vacations incredibly stressful. Staying at home and writing fic? That sounds like the best use of time off I can think of! Certainly the most enjoyable use of vacation time that I can imagine.
