TFL Staffer Position

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

A long time ago, so long ago I wasn’t actually sure whether I had applied or had merely been planning to I applied to The Fanlistings for a staffer position. I was shocked when I got the e-mail asking if I wanted the position and then rocketed to excited like 0-60 in the top sports car. I don’t think I’ve come down from the high yet.

I’m being the Troubles staffer for the episode category. I’ve read the rules, FAQ, templates, guidelines and everything twice. I’ll read it again tomorrow to make sure I understand it and then I can say I’m ready to get started. It’s quite daunting in a way. I’ve been a trouble checker for a year or so and so I know how that goes, what I wasn’t quite aware of is what happens after I’ve turned in my findings. I hope I do it ok.

Also, being a staffer is an amazing opportunity and I’ve certainly got the time. However, the latest trouble checks for my two categories came slap bang in the middle of my exams and I was too scared about those to contemplate anything else. I didn’t feel very well prepared, I was but I needed to get my head screwed on. It was a once in a lifetime situation but I still feel a little guilty that the same month I had to neglect my trouble checking duties I got offered a staffer position. I guess the only thing to do is to resolve to do better next time.

Anyway, I’m a staffer. My name is in blue. I am totally psyched.

One of the sites I run is a messageboard to discuss TV shows. It’s the only thing I still run that isn’t copyright free. It would be difficult to make it so and so I haven’t attempted it. Maybe something for the future. Anyway, today and yesterday I’ve been working through my to do list for that site and I came to a realisation. You see I used to run the site with other people. In it’s own way that was good because it was nice to work with other people, have someone to keep my stupidness in check and have someone else to brainstorm with. But now I’m back on my own again I’ve realised how much time it took to get things done, what with having to run every change past five different people. While it stopped me from making stupid mistakes (something I was prone to years ago and have hopefully grown out of) it did halt progress. Plus, as I’ve realised over the last couple of days it’s very peaceful to be working methodically through a list, knowing that when you leave it and come back everything will be how you left it, it’s a good feeling.

Anyway, I’ve almost done the updates. Just need a couple more schemes and possibly (I haven’t decided yet) get the RPG finished. Personally, I’m not a big fan of RPG’s, I find them difficult but they’re quite popular on my board and could help me get in the habit of writing regularly (something else I want to achieve by regularly updating this blog).
