The Thing About Heroes

August 27th, 2008

Ok the conclusion of the 333 storyline - finally. Well, I knew Drew Bedford was a baddie. There was something tickling at the back of my brain about the puzzle pieces, something they hadn’t addressed the episode before. I said that it was that he’d touched them but I knew that wasn’t quite right. I couldn’t put it together but Stella did so that was ok. Honestly she has the worst luck with men. I was yelling at the TV behind you when Mac had just passed that door in the wine cellar. Oh and how long does it take to fly to Chicago? They seemed to go back and forth a bit. Mac there, Flack there, both back, Jimmy to NY. Oh and how did Drew know where Bobby Toole was buried? And why did they have to take Mac’s prints for exclusion? His would be on file surely.

Enough nitpicking, Danny was awesome when he saved the others. I’d like to know whether the stopped train at the 333 station was another empty hijacked one or if it had passengers and was on it’s normal route but that’s about it for that part. Drew is totally obsessed with 333, must be crazy seeing something so traumatic so young. I loved the Train to Nowhere sequence, the song the clips of a train to nowhere. I also liked the end bit with the lasers and everything. When I read it, it was so confusing but watching it, it made sense. The body bit with Bobby O Toole was disgusting, I prefer fresh bodies. That green brown skeletal look of terror is not good. The Chicago detective really rubbed me up the wrong way, I liked it when she apologised but that was about it. I think she should extend some more courtesy to visitors. Oh and Mac as a child does not fit with Mac as an adult. The only characteristic the two share is dark hair.

Pretty good episode really. I’d have to give it an 8/10.

Another HP meme

1. Favorite Book?
Well I’m not sure that I really have a favourite. Back in the day I would have said Goblet of Fire but after looking practically at the books I don’t really know if I like any of them that much. It’s the world and the characters that I love.

2. Least Favorite book so far?
Deathly Hallows, that even trumped Order of the Pheonix which I didn’t like in the first place and then got associated with bad memories.

3. Favorite movie so far?
I don’t really like the movies as they leave a lot of the books out (which I can understand) but then take completely the wrong things from the books and make up others. Also, although I have seen all of the films once I can hardly remember them to make an effective comparison.

4. Least favorite movie so far?
OotP as it was the last one I saw and there were bits that just weren’t right like the christmas scene.

5. Number of times you have re-read the series?
God I don’t know. I’ve ready GoF into double figures and the rest maybe half a dozen times apart from Deathy hallows which I’ve read once. I’ve also read snippets like the parts with Tonks or Remus dozens of times.

6. Favorite character?
Tonks.

7. Most hated character?
I don’t really hate any of the characters because they make up the world and have their own parts to play. However, if it was hating the person the character was then I’d have to say Delores Umbridge. I’ve never understood this love to hate thing people have but I don’t love to hate her I really do hate her.

8. Most annoying character?
Ok same rationale as above I’d have to say Professor McGonagall as she’s blind, doesn ‘t see and doesn’t listen. A bit like the three monkeys. Of course that could be just JK’s writing of her, after all we don’t see behind the scenes do we.

9. Favorite Spell (book or movie)
Accio as I wish so badly that it works regularly. However, when I’m tired and out shopping or something I wish I could conjure a chair, amke bags featherlight or just apparate where I want to go.

10. Favorite magical animal?
I don’t know how to answer this because animal isn’t the right word and creature isn’t really either so I guess it’s my favourite other magical race would be the goblins. I don’t like how JK portrays them. However, for an animal I don’t think I could name them as I’m a bit animal phobic, I could never own an owl, birds scare me.

11. Which magical object wouldn’t you mind having?
I’d have to agree with MrsTater here, who I pinched this meme from again. “A wand!”because with one everything else would follow.

12. Do think Harry or his scar is Horocrux?
Ok this meme is from before Deathly Hallows but I did believe he was a horocrux before the book came out. That’s my theory behind how he survived that night as I don’t believe the blood protection exists.

13. Snape: friend or foe?
Ok again same as above before the book came out I have to say I didn’t really have an opinion. I knew he wasn’t a nice bloke and I like tortured heroes in stories a lot but I just couldn’t tell, could have gone either way really although I like how he turned out friend despite the total cliche of Snape loving Lily.

14. Out of these which would you want?
1. A skilled legilimens
2. An Animangus (If this, what form?)
3. Metamorphmagus
4. To Speak Parseltonuge

Metamorphmagus becuase I could look how I wanted and imagine if you could look exactly how I wanted how confident you would feel. Although I wouldn’t tell anyone of my ability because that could get perverted.

15. Which house would you be in?
Hufflepuff

16. Strangest theory(ies) you have heard so far?
Well MrsTaters are a bit wacky but honestly I don’t frequent forums and although I have read a lot of fanfiction it tends to lean towards my own tastes with Dumbles being manipulative and self serving and all the conspiracy that comes with that.

17. Favorite book moment?
I don’t like book 7 but I loved Neville in it walking towards the trio bearing the marks of his resistance, his head held high. I love Neville and he deserved his moment.

18. Book moment that made you cry?
I cried when Cedric died and I cried when Sirius died. Might have cried when Dumbles died can’t remember. Didn’t cry much for any of them as I don’t do crying really. Cried most for Sirius despite my hatred of the book, stupid prophecy which undermines the meaning of the books.

19. Favorite Movie Quote?
Can’t really remember any of the movies. The only clip that is stuck in my head is Bellatrix taunting Neville about his parents going. “How are mum and dad?” but it’s not a favourite, just the only one I can remember with any clarity.

20. Favorite Book Quote?
I liked Dumbles line about “Choices defining us more than abilities” which I think was the meaning which DH and the prophecy made a mockery of. Don’t know, like I said not a fan of the books so much anymore as the world.

Commuted Sentences, Buzzkill and One Wedding and a Funeral

August 26th, 2008

First of all thanks Steve for the nice comment. You’re right about time flying which is really scary as well change is a scary thing. Living away from home, new people, new surroundings, new situation. I can’t wait really till Christmas because by then I’ll have got rid of all my jitters about it being so new.

Anyway, back to the point of the post. For some reason I haven’t posted reviews of the last three CSI:NY episodes and there’s another one on tonight. While it’s not necessary to post thoughts on every episode I like to so I can look back and see what I was thinking so in brief.

Commuted Sentences: I sort of felt sorry for the murderers because while they killed people an argument can be made that the victims sort of deserved it. However, murder is murder I suppose I just don’t like classing them in the same group as the people they killed. Vigilantism is a difficult subject and I think they dealt with it well. It might have been nice to have had some more internal struggle within the team with perhaps Lindsay identifying with them and saying that the women don’t deserve jail or something. They seemed to all just sort of follow along the murder is murder, don’t care about the motive. Still not a bad episode, loved Lindsays slingshot Dennis the Menace impersonation. Give it maybe 6/10.

Buzzkill: Ok why did Stella agree to meet with Drew? He’s obviously a stalker psycho, going over the top and pushing the boundaries. I’m glad she’s a little bit nervous but seriously, I would have got a restraining order by now. As for the case in the martini glass well I’m never going in the ocean again. You can’t see it unless it’s under a microscope but it can kill you. As for the other case well it was good. Danny seemed a bit off, bit out of character. Liked how they had the hidden danger and the case took a turn. Much like with Midsomer I sometimes wonder when they’re going to run out of ways to play cases out or ways to kill people. Not bad all told so give it a 7/10.

One Wedding and a Funeral: Ok liked how they had an allusion to them actually testifying in court once in a while. After all there has to be more to the job than the job. Loved how Stella yelled at Drew. I think he sent it, he was smirking and then he kept on touching it even after she told him not to perhaps because he already had and wanted a reason for his DNA to be on the pieces. Loved the 3D puzzle though, Adam is amazing, his job will never be boring although they could have helped him. I think they should have been a little more careful with the new boxes they found, the first one wasn’t a bomb but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a fakeout, any of the others could have been. Anyway, conclusion to the 333 storyline next episode, about time too, I want to know what it’s about. A few more hints might have been nice along the journey as the pieces we have don’t connect together so the episode will just basically tell the whole story which sort of partially defeats the object of the buildup.
